That was the same lens I saw destiny through initially until the people he was trying to align himself with were trying to do the same thing to him that he did to jontron during their conversation, that being demonize him and put him in the most uncharitable light possible. Then he changed his tune and focused his efforts on those people so the content creators that used to pick apart the stupid things he would say for content now see him as an ally of sorts. I think this is an incorrect interpretation of where she is actually wrong. What she’s saying is that people aren’t receiving any benefits from the system they pay into. But within the context of the examples she gives here that claim is totally false. If my political ideology was tied to the idea that the US conquering other nations was the ultimate good for society I would obviously support massive increases in military spending as a policy. However if I thought that the money being allocated to the military wasn’t being used properly to conquer other nations that would make me angry and I would criticize that and I might even say, depending on my perception of the misallocation of funds, that the US military spending is producing a bad outcome. However, this critique would not be inconsistent with my advocacy for an expansion of the military or US imperialism in general. In the same way DM rant here is not inconsistent with a general advocacy for socialism or an expansion of the welfare state. I don’t advocate for those things either to be clear but we should be pointed with our criticisms. From the context of this video you can’t make that claim

Her problem here is that she didn’t see any of it because her occupation has elevated her past the income level that the pandemic spending was meant to relieve, and she’s upset that she had to pay into it. We know this isn’t a misallocation gripe because neither spending package got mentioned at all, just the same tired $2000 check argument we’ve been hearing for the last year. Remember, most people on the left wanted those packages to be double the size they eventually got passed at, but because the pie in the sky target didn’t get hit, it’s all worthless I guess. Generating outrage, even at objectively beneficial changes, is how people like Demonmama stay relevant enough to have so much money that they end up in a new tax bracket to begin with

What the hell is DMM even advocating for: not paying taxes if you feel like you don't get anything out of it? She is the prime example of the horseshoe theory.

Taxes are so easy to do here in Norway. If you make roughly the same each year you don't even have to fill in taxes each year it will just automatically apply the same tax number from the previous year. Most people just overpay 10-15% so each summer you get back everything you have overpaid. Say in your pay grade you are obligated to pay 24% tax (in the low pay grade), most people will just go on your page on the IRS fill in 36%, and boom your taxes are done for each year up until you go up a paygrade (even if you go up a lot you more then likely won't need to pay much more than 40% unless you earn a lot).

Whelp lets hear her bad take and Destiny's response that is inline with reality.

Just to be fair, that unemployment boost was absolutely beyond a blessing at the time. The problem was that it was EXTREMELY difficult for 95% of people to even file and get approved for it, ON TOP of it taking months for people's claims to actually go through and recieve they're 1st payment, and I know lots of people that never even got UI despite being eligible, and some that it took well over 6 months to receive they're benifits at all.. guess that's what happens when an extremely outdated and poorly operating system is overburdened suddenly by millions of people in every state

I literally filed tax last year just for the check and used it to pay my rent. And I got more from tax return than the tax I paid this year. I don't understand what Demonmama is talking about here.

Testing pretty difficult to get in my area whenever you need it. My work requires a positive to give me covid leave but tests not available for a week, so you can't get tested when you first get symptoms. At home tests have gone out of stock a few times and are $30, which makes me wish we had ~$5 tests like in Europe. As a result my sick leave wasn't paid when me and my household got sick. Doesn't this happen often? Somoene poor is fine with higher taxes all until they get some money and realise that the semi rich do actually get taxed more than the poor. The only ones that gain the system are the super rich that keep it in offshore accounts and use their teams of lawyers to wiggle out of paying more.

Destiny is mostly right here, but Biden actually did say he'd "eliminate student loan debt" as one of his campaign promises. And when it came to the wire, he actually didn't do very much to help with that, ironically it was during the Trump administration that student loans were paused for a very long time, Biden only caved to add a couple extra months. That isn't "elimination".

He is eliminating student loan debt, but it is for targeted groups such as those affected by for profit colleges, disabled people, etc.

Why does someone else get something I think this other group should get something instead. it all starts somewhere and giving breaks to those middle-upper class folks means that there's more money to actually flow into the economy

If you have enough items to track on your taxes that it inspires irrational rage, you have enough money to hire a local tax office to experience all of that frustration in your place. Holy crap she sounds like the absolute worst boomer here. Stop paying taxes if you would prefer using an outhouse and getting your water in a pail from the river - Taxes pay for the Sanitary and Water systems you so casually depend on.
