    The SSPX does ordain exorcists in seminary (concurrently with their education starting at the acolyte level). Though they don’t perform solemn exorcisms at that level, all SSPX priests and seminarians engage in serious spiritual warfare. As to solemn exorcisms, Priors (the pastor in charge of each SSPX priory) are able to do them. It’s my understanding that most are successful in one, two or a few sessions during which priests generally stick to reading the original rite.

    Thank you for another excellent episode, Father and Thomas. I wanted to add that I have never heard a diocesan trad priest claim what Thomas says he has heard about them: That is that some say that it is legitimate to pick and choose what bits of Vatican ll they want to keep. In fact I have never heard any laud that Council in any way what so ever or repeat that claim that since it was 'pastoral' no changes were instituted Catholic teaching or belief or understanding. My experience has shown me that they know they live in a dangerous time and know they are being watched. They focus on teaching the perrenial and unchanging Faith to their flocks. To give us the best foundation they can. If people have questions concerning these issues those are dealt with quietly and in private mostly in confession where all are protected by its seal. I think Thomas may have heard a falsehood spread to discredit these brave men.

    I was listening to a Fr Ripinger, and he claimed Cardinal Ratzinger put a prohibition on that prayer. He claimed they discovered it when a priest who was using that prayer became possessed. He said it was disobedience to say the prayer and that was the opening the devil needed. I just heard him discussing it speaking about prayers the laity can say. I had a particular reason to research this when a woman i knew was consecrated to Satan. Was almost impossible to find anyone to help her. People who need help in the Church can't find it now.

    @@Belladicta There is no logic in it. Supernatural truth does not contradict reason, It is superior to reason, but It does not contradict It. Ratzinger did not have the Catholic faith, and that is a continuos obvious public fact, there is no logic with that and that he would have any authority over the Church's prayers and Catholic priesthood and practice.

    Where does the possessed persons soul reside during possession, and if the person dies during before an exorcism is properly completed, what then happens to the persons soul?.. I expect it’s a two-fold answer depending on the individual circumstances of the possession (ie, is it an instance of a victim soul or not)? Would really like to understand this better. Thanks in advance & keep up the great work. God Bless & protect over lent

    @lilyw.719 incorrect. They are not 'rare'. Father Gabriele Amorth, the exorcist in the diocese of Rome, claimed to have performed tens of thousands; at least 60,000 in his words. This is just one exorcist. Every diocese has an exorcist, either the Bishop himself by default, or a priest he selects as the diocesan exorcist. Do the math.

    Father your position regarding the New Rites of Ordinations, ect is more sensible than some others ive heard speak about this matter. If you can please give me your input on this position i have maintained when i hear someone say the New Orders are invalid. I respond, you cannot say they are invalid, but only doubtful. My reasoning is as such. I knew a priest from India that was Ordained in 1970. He assured me that his bishop used the Old Rite. When he came to the U. S. everyone believed he was Ordained in the New Rite because of the year and because he was attached to the Novus Ordo even said the New Mass. Another N.O. priest I know was told at ordination to use the new rite of Mass but as you concecrate the species have the Intention of 'Many', not 'all'. So i have maintained like Fr. Amore there were plenty of older priests/bishops that did not use the New Rites or they used them with proper intention. So a person cannot assume that all the N.O. bishops and priests are invalidly ordained. My understanding has been, the Form signifies the Intent. So there are two different ways some bishops or priests of the Novus Ordo could be valid. Lastly Pope Leo condemned the Anglican rite as being invalid, but the Church waited two hundred years to make that declaration. In researching why i learned the Church informally condemned that rite when it first began to be used, but prudently waited to see if their was proper intent before formally condemning it as invalid. Only when it was obvious that none of the 'priests' of the Anglican schism were keeping the faith did She act with authority.

    The novus ordo ordination is invalid and also the novus ordo rite of consecrating bishops is invalid as well. Also remember a doubtful rite is an invalid rite as well.

  • @m3727

    @m3727

    My point is, intentions is the dominant element of validity, so some may be valid. As a layman I can say the New Rite is doubtful. That means little and binds no one. If the Church declares the New Rite doubtful, then it must be treated as an invalid rite. Since there has been no declaration the debate is less important than the effects of the New Rite. I'm saying the New Rite should be avoided because it is a danger to the faith and we should leave the validity out of the discussion.
