I must admit my favourite thing about DH is their mobility. Being able to double jump and glide especially makes them a lot of fun to explore the world. When playing other classes it feels like such a weird change not being able to do these things.

This becomes even more true when you decide to explore old content/dungeons that don’t allow flight. Demon Hunters allowed me to continue the childish exploits of glitching out of the playable map and seeing things we weren’t supposed to see.

I love how Illidan was such a fan favorite they retconned him twice... first for TBC "No, Arthas totaly didnt kill him, he had no pProblem killing his Father, his Brothers in the Paladin Order and his old Mentor, but trust us, that last bit of humanity totaly didnt allow him to kill a random Night Elve!" and then with Legion again "Nooo, Illidan was totaly the good guy, he used the Black Temple to fight the burning Legion and when we defeated him, he just dealt them a critical blow... what? No, just forget that most enemies in the Temple were actually Burning Legion Agents and even some high rankings they totaly had nothing to do with Illidan, he was always planed to be the misunderstood hero!"

The first one isnt really a retcon. You see him defeat Illidan yes, but he never goes back to finish him off. The pull from the frozen throne was too strong, he needed to go merge with it. The second yes, definitely. They totally botched the TBC storyline but the gameplay was just so good it didnt matter.

Vengeance DH were the Roadrunners in Flag BGs. Tanky - Good. Mobile - Good. Combined with Engineering - Super Good.

I'm also fairly certain that because of Demon Hunters they changed the way Deepwind gorge works, removing the cart, and making it just a more spread out Arathi Basin

idk if i agree with you on Vengeance. I did mythic raiding and we had a DH tank and I never had to really heal him. He sometimes even wasted our time by refusing to die when we called for a wipe. I made one eventually and did spirit bomb build with the leggo legs and it was VERY fun

I've been maining Veng since DH release, and I'll say this: If you found a good Veng player, they're good in spite of Veng, not because of it. Veng historically has had and still has mitigation uptime issues (though with 8.3 it's offset a bit due to corruption and vers stacking) resulting in them taking a ton of damage. In legion their self heal was okay, really only useful due to the pain generation on damage taken, where as in BFA it's only really good if you spam shear the entire fight (which is an issue in and of itself). It's a spec that I personally love and wish was made better at a fundamental level, but at the same time I'm not blind to its faults. If you had good experiences with a Veng DH, then awesome! I'm genuinely glad. I know I sure as hell tried to make the spec work as well as I could've when I played more actively, but keep in mind a majority of people who ARE good with it are purely due to love of playing the spec, not because the spec itself is inherently good.

Super fun class in Legion, especially the momentum mechanic was a nice thing to keep up. Using blur to reset fel rush. I miss fury of the illidari, DH is now really boring in my opinion compared to what they were in legion, probably like so many classes.

I played veng in 8.1 and it was super fun. But then I switched to my prot warrior and realized how unnecessarily difficult active mitigation and self healing was on the DH. With the spirit bomb build, you have to save up 4+ soul frags which is tedious when you need some on-the-spot healing such as with a death strike on a DK. also playing a healer, healing prot warriors is so much more pleasant due to non-spiking damage. The only upside to veng is chaos brand though which is really sick if you're running a lot of casters. I hope they address veng in shadowlands as I love the class fantasy. Their rotation right now makes no sense with soul cleave and spirit bomb contradicting each other. Just my 2c based on my experience.

I did main Demon Hunter Vengeance in a Mythic Raiding guild, being the main tank. While Mythic + was easy once Spirit Bomb spec became meta, Raiding had its ups and downs. For start, This may sound like i am Lying, however ! almost everyone but me did play vengeance Wrong! not in Rotation, but how they did stack their stats. While big sites like Icy vein etc did tell everyone to stack haste-master, Crit and last Versatility, Haste was a useless stat for the tank. they claimed it was due to faster building shards and lower CD on Demon spike. However you could lower Demon spike CD by a talent so that when ever you consumed a shard it took 0.5 seconds of the CD of Demon spike, You could add talents that did increase your Shard gains and talents that did resett the CD of your Demon Spike and magic Ward. in mid Legion the leggs that gave an additional stack to Demon spike and magic ward where added, making Haste stacking retarded. what you wanted to do to smooth out the Damage taken curve was to stack Versatility - mastery, Crit above haste. making the stat Tier list Versatility S, Mastery A, Crit C, haste E = Useless. Why did i do this. Well Versatility stacked was totaly op. it not only did increase damage done and healing done, but also half of that went into pure reduced damage taken from all sources. soo when raiding tomb of sargeras i had 25% Damage reduction from Versatility Alone, my gear was pretty much only versatility and Mastery on it. 25% damage reduction is 50% DAMAGE AND HEALING INCREASE making spirit bomb do big boom. however, once i had the random stat proc i would push the versatility another 5% on damage reduction and 10% on damage. now what did dragged the demon hunter down was how the raiding scene was ruined by druid tanks that had everything, i mean 100% upp time on all mitigations, physical and magic was bonkers, no skill required just faceplant tanking. While i did have just a short window where demon spike wasnt upp, usually it was tank swap during that time, due to every raid in legion being tank swap for tanks. What destroyed demon hunter as tank was its poor handle on magic mitigation! i mean WTF, Demon hunters are supposed to be the magic killers of the tanks, but what fucked them over was magic. every boss that had either a magic dot or big damage magic attack or only did magic damage were the bane of demon hunter tanks. the magic ward for reduced magic damage taken had 20 seconds CD! and you only got the tanking pants with an extra stack right before tomb of sargeras. Also during the emerald nightmare early, Demon hunters where competing for top tier of the tanks, but a nerf to stat gain on all classes killed demon hunter as the mastery gained to increase the damage mitigation on demon spike and at the same time nerfing the damage reduction from demon spike ( i mean common blizzard they fucked Demon hunters so badly that patch) Nerfed demon hunters back to a pre raid / early Legion stat. This was not even balanced out until they increased the passive damage reduction that demon hunters had from 10 to 20%. had mid legion changes such as the incraese 20% passive dmg reduction and legendary pants been, pressent at the start, the demon hunter would have had a better position. i consider the top Thier Legendaries to be the pants, Oblivions embrace , Archimondes hatred Reborn and Fragment of the betrayers Prison. Fragment was very op for mythic + you could make huge pulls with it, while Demon spike where up you got an extra 15% leach, if you where lucky and had alot of leach titan forge gear, you could do crazy stuff, but even without alot of leach on gear, this item made you able to do big pulls as everything you did in damage just got an extra 15% heal from all the damage you did, and almost all demon hunter attacks where AoE, this is where spirit bomb also comes into play, now you get additional heals from the damage it does. many times i would just tell healers to go DPS or just bring 4 DPS without healer and roll mythic 15. If you wanna chat about the Legion demon hunter tank id be up for it.

Vengeance tanking raids during legion release was tough, but patches improved it somewhat.

They can hunt demons of the burning legion but can they hunt the demon of alcoholism? I have a real problem... Please...

Wasn't it somewhat well known that there was a decent amount of veng dh's pushing pretty high keys at the end of legion and the same can be said for high keys now at the end of bfa.

Ironically, the spec I felt drawn to during Legion was Vengeance since Havoc didn't seem to have enough skill expression (especially with that one talent replacing your resource generator with auto attacks being the strongest). Having to use your mobility to not die repeatedly and outplay mechanics in M+ made them less practical to use than other tank specs (the Maw of Souls first boss oneshot you couldn't really mitigate against still haunts me). Add to that the M+ modifier that pretty much disabled healing making them almost unusable in any dungeon with larger group pulls. But both of those just made it satisfying to succeed. I remember refusing to use the death defy ability as well and skilling Fracture once I got the legendary for it (or it got buffed? Don't remember that too well.) because it felt like it rewarded playing well and absolutely crippled you if you weren't, forcing you to improve to not suck.

Well in WoD we didnt get a class or race either. But I guess you could say that MoP doubled up so that WoD didn't have to do anything. Maybe that means the expansion following Shadowlands we will also get a class and few new races.

i find vengeance to be a fun class to tank as in BFA at least, feels different compared to the other classes with more emphasis on AoE

I swapped mains from the DK i had since they released to a DH in legion, it was amazing. I was always too of the dps in high aoe zones and mid to high on raid bosses. The amount of times the play style changed throughout the expansion made sure the class always felt fresh and never got boring.

I did the same. Despite weaknesses that may pop up with my preferred spec of choice for DH, that being Veng, I honestly don't regret it. I hate what they did with DK in legion, and it obviously wasn't made better with BFA. And from the looks of it in shadowlands, I'll probably still end up hating it since its core gameplay loop is still similar to how it has been the previous few expansions.

This is a bit off topic, but do you think Blizzard should release all the new race/models for people? I would love to try some of the new models, esp the Dark Iron Dwarfs, but each of the models require grind quests. I think they should just be playable. I don’t play anymore but if they released the new models for play, I would come back and try them.

You forgot to mention that vengeance demon hunters were the go-to flag carrier for rated battlegrounds.

I could be wrong, but I believe the reason elves were usually demon hunters was because the full training took around...90 years I think? It was a number that would be difficult to reach for certain races other races, and draenei weren't fully discovered on the planet yet, they could have been demon hunters probably but the issue with them is it might go against a lot of their beliefs. (Draenei society was built a lot off of a belief in the light and how it connects us.)

Momentum still gets me salty to this day. In the legion alpha and early beta it was a marksman talent called trickshots boosting your damage every time you disengage - adding to that a talent that gave you a 10% chance on crit to reset disengage's cd. but noooo let's hand that over to the new class and leave the old stuff in the mm tree just without the 2nd talent - and surprise surprise it never saw much play as the synergy talent was on another class

Hi! Nice video, but I have some comments about PvP state as 2k all-legion DH player :) Manarift was NEVER used till BFA, Demonic Origins was simply go-to talent in this row. You can look at Legion replays from Trenacetate, Manarift wasn't a choice. Mana Break was playable till 7.1.5 when it was fixed to 15% of HP damage, before it was able to do 45% of HP if mana was 0. DH was garbage in 1st season Legion before moving the Bloodlet and Felblade to another talent tiers. In 1st season there only was 1 DH gladiator, that played DH+Boomy+Rsham with Drainer.

I think I would have enjoyed the class more if I were better at mobile melee. I have a bad habit when trying to move while swinging weapons where I somehow end up out of range of the enemy. I just couldn't quite feel comfortable with the class.

Vengeance does not struggle today at all, it's fighting warrior as the highest dps tank with twilight devastations or versatility corruptions, and their mobility and utility makes them a good choice for most affixes. Downside is being a bit fragile during demon spikes downtime, which is mitigated by having loads of stats in 8.3. They are also present in every third run in MDI so... not that bad :D

Yep. Dh tank its a bit weak when spikes are down and the spec does not have a reliable AOE agro spell when things go south (thats why i use a AOE essence for agro and as a oh Sht button)

I agree, Vengeance DH is the only tank that takes a spot away from warriors in mdi. I dont know where you got the idea that DH is not strong at the moment, they are present in almost every tournament run, if not as a tank then as a dps

That's the problem tho, it relies on borrowed power. When Shadowlands pre-patch comes and they remove corruptions, vengeance will be in a terrible spot.

I think you forgot the place DH was really meant for. RBGs. Both specs in RBGs were rediculously op. Vengeance could zoom across any map, and havoc could top every meter every game. Eye of leothras was the most op spell in the game, because almost no one uses it so not many even know about it. You can put this on multiple targets, and I've had 4 up at one time before. This destroys any caster, and healers Mana bars. Put it on a boomy or UA lock and watch them kill themselves in seconds. If anything it's a gcd from a healer, or a 6 second silence which are generally more important then 1 dps's gcd. Not to mention the aoe DH had. I went ranged DH, with glaive bleeds and eruption so no one could freely cast on me with out me being able to dmg them. If they were at all close to each other, they were dead within 10 seconds because I could trade CDs so effectively with the leech I had.

The DH was a nice and fun-to-play-class. The mobility is great, but in BFA it isn't that fun, because the important things were canceled 🙄☹

I like Vengeance spec, I'll admit it's not the greatest, but it is a blast to play

They had the best opener out of any class in Legion, not only that a good and well geared DH would always be on top of the meters with the exception of the few fights that Spriest dominated.

I miss the stupid strong leech of DH, being able to tank rift bosses with metamorphasis was so good on top of being an insane AOE machine with strong single target thanks to the 10% chance to recast that one ability in the artifact weapon

I don't know. I really enjoyed the demon hunter tank. I was able to solo M+25 dungeons granted not in time. I could also single tank heroic fights easily like maiden in tomb of sargeras. I think if you knew what you were doing you would be good. I was 985 before the end of legion and never had issues being squishy

Demon Hunter tank is by far the best performing tank for 30 man tank runs in heroic nyalotha. They are also best dps tanks for 20 tank mythic nyalotha, which is not to say that you want 20 of them by any means as other classes contribute some things far more important than dmg.

Vengeance was pretty strong with the right traits and talents. Utilizing the mobility between or as a defensive move. Can't take damage if you're not getting hit. And the self healing...

I'm sad we're not seeing Necromancers (True Necromancers, Unholy DK is cool, but they're more plague spreading tanky brawlers, than just necromancers.) come into the fold in Shadowlands. I'd love for us to get them as a class. But I also direly want them to make a cloth tank spec, involved around creating an armor of flesh and bone around you to tank hits and junk. Lmfao. I just think it'd be cool. Stupid? Probably. But cool.

Havn't played BFA in a bit, my understanding atm is Veng still not great, Havoc is somehow a good single target spec now. BFA seems so RNG heavy now with corruption though

WillE well a DH tank has an io score of over 6k rn. Sure they aren’t prot warriors but they are still capable of pushing very high content, and ya DH is good ST mostly because of corruptions and essences but they weren’t too bad without corruptions in 8.0 and 8.1

Objection, vengeance demon hunters were able to straight up pull half of the dungeon if you weren't bad and had somewhat good gear. At least that was my experience. I'm not at all a hardcore player and I definitely didn't grind gear and yet I could easily solo heroic dungeons.

War cleaves overall are too edgy for my taste. I like the horns and double jump. But i preferr paladind overall. Having all 3 specs be heal, tank and dd is fun, expecially healing myself in any role.

Vengeance Tank were perfectly fine in raids and high level mythics. You just haven't had the right one. Vengeance Tanks could practically solo heroic dungeons when maxed with high DPS, strong survivability and DK level self-healing. In my experience Blood DKs were still the best choice back in Legion

Is there a way to contact devs to suggest them some ideas for races and classes? I have an idea around the other side of Azeroth and I some race ideas, such as humanoid T-Rexes, samurai rabbits (think Usagi Yojimbo) etc

6:45 - To be fair, prot warriors have completely dominated the meta for the majority of BFA. Vengeance is definitely weak, but I doubt it'd be considered horrible in a game where prot warriors didn't exist.

I didn't feel like DH tanking was weak in Legion. I was soloing non-heroic dungeons pretty easily and had no issue in Mythic plus dungeons. Can't speak for raids

It was fucking useless I had to reroll deathknight to tank mythic ToS. Regardless of being in 932 gear or whatever the fuck was bis then plus could only go upto mthic+18 vs +26 on my deathknight. Was just a disappointment

I mained a Havoc dps for mythic EN and Nighthold, god fuck momentum build. It wasn't skill based at all because once you get the Anger ring you took demon blades and your spec became, "keep throw glaive on cd, Afk waiting for fury from auto attacks, fell rush, 3 chaos strikes, repeat." Though you would use vengeful retreat as well but people forget this means you have NO mobility because your mobility is tied to DPS. Momentum build DH's have less mobility then a fucking ret paladin. It looks cool and is great in theory but complete shit in execution. Thank god for later nighthold demonic became better.

We also had the Fel Rush disconnect issue and lag would double the distance you right into our of bounds and insta death. Nemesis build was the solid built until Antorus. Also no mention of all the pieces of our kit that was on the artifact weapon. We were built with the weapon in mind and we are still gutted without those pieces. RIP DH in shadowlands after we lose power again.

@@pauldunecat IKR. They give havoc immolation aura baseline but then you need to talent for the fury generation. I don't remember dk's getting screwed every expansion like DH's are. That being said DH did get hallowed out the spec still see's play in all high levels of play. Goes to show big numbers matter more then fun.
