Demolition of The Toronto Don Jail - by Priestly Demolition

The corner of Broadview and Gerrard in the Riverdale neighbourhood of Toronto is being transformed - and Priestly Demolition has led the charge.
From helping with the restoration of the Old Don Jail to the removal of the old Bridgepoint Hospital "Half-Round" building, PDI is now focusing on the bringing down the Toronto Jail - the final phase of work that will re-define this community.

Outstanding video! I really appreciated the thoughtfulness and planning applied to this job, prior to demolition. So many “lesser” demolition companies just want to smash and go, Priestly, obviously, is much more methodic and professional about the process, proving they were perfect for this project.

I did the old Milton Jail. 1854 and 1877. I have the door from the gallows for a coffee table. The building is now their Town Hall. It took us nine months to underpin the building. We were looking for the four men that were hanged with the Ontario Museum.

I worked for Toronto Water and shut the water off for quite a few demo projects did in the city . Priestly is a real good company with good staff and family working for the company . And they work safe ,not like some of the other crazies out there ,that kill people bringing buildings down

Make people in government housing feel even worse than they do already. Some people didn't grow up with a silver spoon or even three meals a day. I grew up in Regent Park. If there was no government housing my single mother would have been raising two kids on the street. Where did you grow up? NOT IN HOUSING THATS FOR SURE!!!

A guy says " You are now incarcerated " !!?? As a door slides closed in a cell in " Cell Block 3 "...…… Not ONE of those people have ever done a SINGLE SOLITARY day of INCARCERATION in the old DON JAIL. This writer has been ( on several occasions ) an inmate in that particular jail. Grown men crying....Screams at night...Clanging of steel on steel.....and the ever present jingling of keys. Now THAT is actually being INCARCERATED !!! This video represents a major milestone in Canadian history and should be treated as such. Oh and HAPPY CANADA DAY 2020 !!! ( P.S. And if those walls could talk you would run for your lives)
