Demo of my fretless acoustic bass guitar
Ойындар
Built over the course of 2020 this has been my most challenging woodwork project yet. Here is a short, rough demo of how it sounds. No prizes for originality of song choice or polish of performance :)
The large body size means that recording with a mic is viable in the studio, though the piezo pickup would be better suited for gigs.

Holy smokes! I thought this was a Tacoma Thunderchief and thought, “I didn’t know they made a fretless.” Then I read you built this?!?! VERY nicely done!
that thing sounds amazing
I love acoustic basses like this!
Wow! Great bass, demo, performance and vid! That Piezo/upright sound is almost TOO fat! I love it! That's a fine sounding instrument right there. You are a skilled luthier. Thanks for sharing! ...and singing! Fun bass tune.
It's like a cross between a Tacoma Thunderchief and an Ernie Ball Earthwood bass - two of my faves. Good looking bass, great, deep sound and bass response. Well done!
Wow, not only a lovely bass sound but a really great vocal. What a class act :)
That's the size to go if you want some power in that bass, close to an upright. Looks as big as a Mexican guitarrón almost.

It's comfortable for a tall guy like me. The body depth is ~150mm (6") in the middle. I left the soundboard too thick - next one'll be louder.
What a gorgeous instrument.
Thanks for all the different mic positions. I've been trying to figure out if I can get the sound I want from an acoustic bass purely for the purposes of recording and this is really the only helpful video I've found. Seems clear you can get a very deep and full sound from close mic'ing -- though I certainly won't be making one from scratch as you did :)
Sounds like a double bass. Incredible
Hey Trevor, superb demo. You got great tone to your voice which suits accompanying that beautiful work of art! Oh man And what a tone like a well made double bass. It's a work of art In progress-which Will grow and improve with every redesign and tweak. Be encouraged my friend you've already done a superb job with it. Blessings.
looks good sounds good
Wow that is one huge, beautiful bass guitar. It sounds great, looks good! Bonus point for the song and performance! Cheers!
The piezo sounds good (also a Zoom AC2 user here) but I really love the close mic'ed sound - that's pretty amazing for any ABG, let alone a home built.
Really good. More guitar demos should feature vocals.

Yeah it lets you hear it in context
Incredible tone. Nice performance!
Wow this was awesome 😎
Beautiful tone mate. Guitar is great too :) You just be justifiably proud.
Awesome demo bro. Love the music too.
This was so cool. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful bass and great demo, top stuff pal!
Where's the video showing how you build that? That is amazing!

No video, but a set of build pix at cloneensemble.com (look for "acoustic bass build" on LHS menu)
Man, that is nice! Congrats
Hi Trevor. That is a beautiful ABG. And a fun video. Thanks. If you ever want to build another ABG that is much louder, check out the TurboBass. By taking the tension off the soundboard, and using microbes strings and the TurboTail, a bass the size of yours should be much louder; Probably about as loud as an upright bass.
Very nice! Very loud!
sounds fucking great!
what a voice !!
Bass sounds great!
Cool !
Nice demo 👍
I like the mic at the sound hole best personally, nice nuanced woody tone. The piezo sounds good too though.. Maybe you could blend the piezo with the mic sound, best of both worlds
Awesome!
Yeeehaa🙏...great...king of the road...well done 👍
Que baixolão mais lindo. ♡♡♡♡♡
Pretty close to that upright bass tone
👏👏👏👏👏
Is that a Tacoma, or “bass’d” on a Tacoma design? Sounds great and smart looking to boot!

I based the design on the Tacoma, but with tweaks influenced by three other offset sound hole ABGs. It was my first build, I've since done a couple of guitars using the same plans but scaled down (you can hear those on my channel). I like how they've turned out, but man oh man, is there room for improvement!
Now that is a nice bass tone right there. Doesn't seem an easy thing to achieve. Did you go with rotosound nylon tapewounds? And how heavy/light did it end up?
@TrevorMag62

Thanks, yes they're nylon flats, but D'Addario I think. It's slightly heavier than it should be - about the same as an electric. The back & soundboard could easily have been thinner, that would have made it lighter and louder. The neck's a bit chunky too - fine for me, but might be an issue for someone with smaller hands.

@@TrevorMag62 Chunky like a proper DB. 😉 Anyway... Great job! If I was a rich man (or had any spare money at all in fact!)... I'd be preordering one!

hi, what is the name of fretless bass acoustic guitar
@TrevorMag62
3 жыл бұрын
I haven't given it a name, but if I continue to build them I might call it the B³, for Big Box Bass (or you could substitute another word for one of those B's)
Who build this bass?

I did, bro. And the guitars on the more recent video on this channel.
Meatloaf on bass?!?
