Oh WOW!! 55002 was my first Deltic cop, one cold winter's day on Doncaster station in the mid 70's, so glad it has been saved, nostalgia right there for me :)

More of them should have been preserved. What a beast it was!

Thanks go to the dedicated folk who worked diligently over the years in order that we can still enjoy the unique Deltic presence on our preserved and mainline railways.

You would think in this day & age something could be done with 55021to restore it to the way it was originally ! Great video ! Great memories ! I am a former railwayman ! The deltics were the kings of the rails !

I think even die hard steam fans have to find a place in their hearts for Deltics. I’ve had many a good day at platform one, Doncaster waiting for these fantastic engines to pass through. Nice to see my fave 55015 Tulyar getting plenty of TLC. It’s a shame most outings they just run on one power plant nowadays to keep engine wear reduced as a Deltic on full chat is something to behold.

Lucky you, as a railfan here in Germany, I would gladly "put up" with listening ONE Napier engine running..

When a Deltic pulls into the station, you don't have to ask what it is ! Which is lucky 'cos no one would hear you anyway 🚂

I used to work as a train engineer for SWT and thereby indirectly ‘Porterbrook’. I was based at Wimbledon Common TMD. I never forget we had 55 016 x the ‘awful purple’ Deltic in for wheel turning on our lathe along with a rake of VSOE coaches! Once the wheels were done I got a CAB RIDE on the mainline I will never forget! 55 016 had then been put back into her CORRECT colours of two tone green VERY NICE! Funny as my old dad once worked for English Electric and helped BUILD all the Deltics including 001 ‘THE DELTIC’ now in the National Train Museum! The sound of these INSIDE THE ENGINE ROOM at max thrash is AWESOME!

Yes I agree the porter brook livery on 55016 Gordon Highlander did not suit it frankly once it was repainted in 2 tone green it looked far better to be honest

@@stephenchecksfield632 There's an old cab end there, 5502. That needs cutting for scrap asap.

I always thought the prototype Deltic to be better looking than the production version., but all nice, best diesel elec ever built.

A couple of spare deltic cabs, a lengthened class 37 underframe and bogies, a 16cyl engine, although you could keep the 12cyl, some side panels and roof and you have DP2. Not a deltic granted, but it looks very similar and did not DP2 work some deltic schedules without loosing much time. If you can recreate a baby deltic this should be perfectly feasible, if of course the money and enthusiasm is there.

It would be pretty cool if they made new compete body and engines for D9021. Probably will never happen but a guy can dream.

Surely 55021 could have new frames fabricated?
