    Title is wrong, there has never been a DP1. That is a modern fancy, as this loco was never numbered. And DP2 was Diesel Prototype 2, nothing to do with Deltic, as many seem to believe.

    Amazing the Deltic was the Merlin/RB211 of diesel motive power….British engineering (although German influenced) at its greatest……..

    I'm NOT a train spotter, but there is something special about Deltics! They are the loco version of a F4J Phantom plane. Big heavy, dirty smoky and smelly......And absolutely GORGEOUS! Remember being stood FAR too close to the rails on what I thought was a disused line one day, stark bollock naked (I'm a nudist and there wasn't anyone else about in the area......Suddenly I heard the track hissing, and realised that a train was approaching, so I stood well clear and turned round to have a look. It was a Deltic, pulling a load of ballast waggons. Only going 20 or so miles an hour. As it got close, I could feel the ground shake, and the smell was incredible <3 Could feel the heat as it went past. Pure power. They don't have the glamour of steam engines, but it's a piece of beautiful engineering!

    Engineering of its time at its absolute best. The Deltic is just a fantasic big machine whose raw power grips the seat of your pants and rattles your bones. Brilliant locos imho. The fact some still exist in full working order after decades of use and abuse is testament to that surely. Designed and built to last and last with proper maintenance. Almost every part could be repaired or overhauled and rebuilt to save having to buy a complete new part. A far cry from todays throw away and get new mostly without even a casual look to see if the fault is obvious.

I believe that the love, care and good maintenance and dedication of the drivers and mechanics and having good spare parts has done its job. Best regards from Chile.

    Blackpool North really has changed since then as now the platform layout has changed with it being reduced from 8 to 6 aswell as the platforms being made straighter, the semaphore signals have long gone aswell as Blackpool North signal box & the route has now been strangled by overhead wires.

    @@nablicman they lasted an extra 19 years after this tour took place as it wasn't until the end of 2017 that work began on electrifying the route to Blackpool North from Preston. Steam tours to Blackpool are a very rare sight now as the last one that ran along the route before electrification was with 44932 in 2013 & RTC have run some trips to Blackpool in the past but there hasn't been more since then. And one which was planned for last year ended up getting cancelled due to insufficient bookings.

    @@WillsmanRail456 that trip they we're planning for last year I actually was interested in going on. Although I live just down the coast in Southport and a trip from Preston to Blackpool wouldn't really be that long a journey, my goal is to tick off as many routes that I can with steam traction. It was to tick off as many steam locos as possible but as there's not been that many new steam engines return to the mainline and most of them iv been behind multiple times, my goal now is to tick off as many routes as possible with steam traction. As of Sept 2023 I've done just shy of 10,000 miles behind preserved steam on the mainline.

    The DPS could use the cabs they have from 55008 and 55021 and rebuild DP2 the deltic prototype using a class 37 as the donor locomtoive. Now that would be amazing to see. DP2 was such a beautiful locomotive.

    45110 got bought by West Coast Railways from the Severn Valley Railway a few weeks ago so hopefully we'll be seeing 45110 on the mainline again in a few years time & maybe we might see 45110 double head with 45407 too.

  • @MasterMoyle

    Hopefully one day we'll get to see 45110 in Blackpool once again as she's now a permanent resident of Carnforth. Severn Valley have sold her to West Coast Railways so she's going to be getting overhauled for a return to the mainline. Whenever she does return to steam it will be the first time since 2000 that she'll have roamed the national network. I'm really looking forward to the day she returns to traffic.

    West coast railways now have 3 black 5s 44932 44767 and 45110 it looks like 6201 princess Elizabeth is now under overhaul

  • @MasterMoyle
    @MasterMoyle11 ай бұрын

    @@jameshardy4354 that's what has been said about 6201 but others claim she is still stored inside the shed gathering dust. While I do want to see 6201 run again I preferably want to see 45110 return to steam as she's one of the 1T57 black fives & it would be nice to have haulage behind her on a 1T57 anniversary train (2028 for the 60th anniversary would be nice). In preservation she's never been involved in any of the anniversary 1T57 trains. 2008 although operational she wasn't mainline certified so her place was taken by 48151 for the Liverpool to Manchester section & 45231 then worked the train back to Liverpool that evening. & 2013 she wasn't in traffic so her place was taken by 45305 for the Liverpool to Manchester & return section (while 45305 was the original allocated engine it would be nice seeing 45110 involved with one). Big question though is which one of the pair will return to traffic first, Crewe built 44767 or Vulcan built 45110.

  • @WillsmanRail456
    @WillsmanRail45611 ай бұрын

    @@MasterMoyle seeing 45110 back on the mainline again is defiantly something to be excited about as she hasn't been on the mainline since May 2000 when she was failed at Lockerbie with leaking tubes.

  • @WillsmanRail456
    @WillsmanRail45611 ай бұрын

    @@jameshardy4354 effectively West Coast now own three of the five builders batch of black 5's with two being LMS built engines & one being an outside built engine. 44767 was built by LMS at Crewe Works, 44932 was built by LMS at Horwich Works & 45110 was built by Vulcan Foundry in Newton le Willows. They just need an engine from Armstrong Whitworth of Newcastle & one from Derby Works and then they'd have the complete set.
