    Gonna miss the day that they retire the beautiful 757. I fly Delta all over the world and she's always my first choice. I try to thank the crew as I leave every flight and I ask, what is it like to fly her? The majority is "She's the best "..

    Reminds me of my latest flight with US on approach to Charlotte. Man, that plane shook violently. We aborted landing, circled the airport, trying to find an opening and we ended up in Raleigh until the storm passed. I missed a connection that night, but was rebooked as soon as I arrived.

    rotator1471, it is called TO/GA, or Take Off/ Go Around thrust. It actually refers to the button the pilots can push to initiate the action desired. When pressed for Go Around, this button does a few things: it deactivates the autopilot, over rides the auto throttle setting, and advances the throttles to the appropriate thrust setting. The actions taken by the pilots in this video are safe, and the mark of a competent crew.

    my worst flight was trying to land in new york and we did several loops around the airport to get an ok for a landing but the weather was so severe we couldnt attempt the landing and were finally diverted to a military airport so we could refuel. Then we had to wait another hour on that tarmac before being able to takeoff and have one of the worst and most turbulent flights back to be able to try to re-land. Best part of that was that when we landed at the military airport

    I'm hardly a rookie. I've made approaches in bad weather a few times and they are never fun. Odds are that everything will go as planned, but then there are the few instances where things don't go as planned. Eastern 66, Pan Am 759 and Delta 191 are a few that come to mind. While wind shear detection has come forward by leaps and bounds over where it was years ago, you would have to think what might have happened if this plane wasn't equpped with detection equipment.

    The pilots here just did an outstanding job - they gunned it for max air speed when threatened with low level shear, which they had every reason to fear given the extreme turbulence of the approach. Hitting those pockets while in a turn, they level it out and gun it again - they know their stuff, maintain air speed!!

    @larrythe4cuzr Have to agree with that, when we landed in Denver from London on a British Airways flight (large plane as you could imagine), clear day, and the passengers were on the verge of screaming as the plane literally took a DIVE and wobbling around. Very scary.

    @CanopyFlyer150 One of the nice things about YT is that now and then you learn something you did not know before. So basicly it takes the work load off the pilot during the critical seconds after the decision to abort landing is made. I assume it also sets up the flaps for the climb out as well?

    I'm flight attendant. I like turbulences. I already had 10 go arounds & 1 touch and go :-). I'm normally not scarred at all on the plane. But my last go around that happened in Porto 3 weeks ago was so scarry, it was very windy with violent turbulences, the airplane was almost upside-down & we were about to land. When we did the go around, the plane had violently turned to the left and was falling. I really thought we were going to crash on the runway & almost started to shout Brace Brace...

  • @CanopyFlyer150
    @CanopyFlyer15013 жыл бұрын

    @tpsossff The flaps are set manually in the 757. I'm not aware of any aircraft that set the flaps automatically. I could be wrong though. You are correct. TO/GA is the automation of the aircraft taking a lot of work load off the pilots.

    @MrSheen134 In wind shear you don't want to suddenly lose air speed on approach so they were probably too high and too fast on final. Good pilots, they kept a safety margin and went around.

  • @antimatterXXXIII
    @antimatterXXXIII14 жыл бұрын

    @rec711 What's scary here? Just a standard go-around. So it's a little bumpy, they were probably too high because they were maintaining air speed to cope with wind shear and got a head wind.

    I thought it (the ride) had gotten a lot better when they were near touchdown. Maybe he was a tad high on the approach, however. I don't know what the weather was like to their left (or whether it was because of Air Traffic Control vectoring), but after the go-around that right turn-out seemed to take them right towards the teeth of the storm. It was a little scary.

    It may not look bad but this is actually pretty bad turbulence...you can hear the plane rattling if you have the sound up. Amazing how fast they climb from around 4:30-5:30. 757 is a rocket and especially at light weight since they were at the end of their flight they can climb at 6-7,000 fpm easily.

    You said it right there. It feels worse than it actually is. Or to be fair, I guess that depends on the person experiencing it. Sometimes you hear people say "the plane dropped several hundred feet in seconds". Which is not even close to reality. When passengers experience "heavy turbulence", the pilots wont even notice any change/drop on their instruments. If the turbulence was REAL bad, the person filming would not be able to hold his camera as steady as he/she did.

    @BucketOfFudge Two others asked the same question and no one paid any attention, so Ill answer you. Yes, that is a tornado (or could be a waterspout at this distance too hard to actually tell). There are also two tornadoes ("sisters") right toward the end of the video as well, and a couple of would-be funnel clouds within the storm circulation. If I were the PIC I would divert w/o question from a tornadic storm. Ive been a severe weather spotter and consultant with the NWS for 24 years now.

    The evidence was there at 3:40 and afterwards. I wouldnt advise turnout with steep bank angles in turbulent weather during the execution of a missed approach. A strong shear could turn you inverted in a heartbeat.

    air is less stable in clouds, next time you fly notice as well the lower you are the "bumpier it gets" usually you feel it more on landing as the speed is slower, the higher in the atmosphere you are the more stable the air is, that's why usually at high altitude the sky is clear

    DAMN. That really is windy landing. Right up there with the two worst landings I've ever experienced. Once landing on 737 at Columbus, OH. And another time landing on a 747 at Frankfurt with Lufthansa. Yes, I'd be gripping the arm rests of my chair and praying on this one. Fortunately, the airplane is made for this and the pilots are professionals who know precisely what they are doing. Think about Chesley Sullenburger and what an amazing pilot he is. Many of these guys are like that.
