Delphi Ghost Town: Exploring a Little-Known Ghost Town in Thurston County, Washington

In this episode of Searching for History, Erin, our white German Shepherd Dog, Thora and I visit the site the Delphi Ghost Town. Delphi is located west of Olympia, near the Capitol State Forest, in Thurston County, Washington. Today all that is left of Delphi is a 1910 schoolhouse and a pioneer cemetery. However, back in the late 19th century, this was a boom town that supported the local timber industry. A post office opened at Delphi in 1892 and closed in 1923. A school house operated in Delphi from 1895 to 1942. Not far southwest of Delphi is the Delphi Pioneer Cemetery. The cemetery has gravestones dating back to the late 1800s. Please join us as we visit the small Ghost Town of Delphi, Washington. Pacific Northwest History.

Exploring what close to home has to offer. Back during my previous career as a forester, I must have driven passed the Delphi Pioneer Cemetery hundreds of times but I don't recall seeing it. As always, thanks for watching!

There are tiny ghost towns all over the West, this one looks relatively well preserved. I guess that's thanks to the donors? It looks like the ghosts have plenty of room to themselves!

We have been taking a close look at the region we live in (southwest Washington). There are lots of ghost towns around here, many are relics of the old growth timber boom, and are now in various levels of ghostliness, from only a schoolhouse or cemetery remains, to ruins in the woods, to nothing left but a name on a map. We plan to track down as many as we can. Thanks for watching!

Welcome home! What is the name of that little historic town that (was) out toward the Centralia steam plant? We followed signs out to the area back in the 80’s, but I believe it was completely destroyed by the mine. I imagine that, too, was an old logging town.

Tono and yes it appears to have been completely erased from the earth by the mine. Tono was actually a coal mining town (the underground coal mine type of mining). Thanks for watching!
