DeLonghi Pinguino 3-in-1 Portable AC Review (Costco Model EM375WRC/1575352)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you live in a hot tropical region, and your central AC is broken, and the repair is halted by the global shortage of AC parts, consider getting one of these portable AC units from Costco to keep yourself comfortable.
It saved us during the 2 hottest months when our broken AC's coil was on backorder from the manufacturer.
When we bought it, it was on sale for $390 at Costco. This is the 3-in-1 unit sold in hot climates in Costco stores. They also have a unit with a heating function that is sold in colder climates.
They come with a 3-year warranty.

Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! kzread.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

I have the em370 this delonghi works like a boss. It's hot a nd humid where I live it runs on 70 all day and night, and it keeps my 450 square room cold, I cut the legs off one of my thinsulated sweat pants, I barely feel any heat escaping from 5he exhaust hose.500.00 was well spent.

I must remove the 2 plastic shells to wash inside the unit. Any idea which way each part clips and slides off? I rly don't want to break the plastic and there's no repair videos online.

UPDATE: Ok I figured it out! Will leave it here since there's no info online.. The front shell has plastic downward hooks that fit into the back shell slots, so lift and pull back once all screws are off. The control panel on top comes off attached to the front shell, so don't try to pry it off from it.. You can unclip the unscrewed control panel from the back as you loosen the front part's hooks. ((Be VERY careful not to touch the metal fins in the back as you pry the thing open,, they are extremely weak and will bend from even rubbing your finger on))

Normally, it doesn't require a bucket if using AC with the provided vent. If your area is especially humid, you can consider open the drain valve and place a bucket under

Saved our butt during hot summer last year when our central AC broke out. Keeps whole room cool if window is insulated well. Also as other people suggest, get insulation for the heat transferring vent to maximize cooling. We are keeping 2 units just in case AC gets broke again.

Make sure you are venting the hot air exhaust properly outside, in AC mode humidified air will get vented automatically. Make sure you are not using it in "dehumidifing mode" indicated as a "water drop icon" which requires a hose and a bucket to catch the accumulating water using the rear drain hole. Make sure you go through the manual to confirm it's not running in dehumidifying mode.

Great review. We also bought 2 last summer because we love it so much. Now that we are using it again, was researching whether we need to add refrigerant at some point. Do you know? Thanks!

Unless your system has a refrigerant leak you should never need to add refrigerant. If you have a system leak, the cost to repair/recharge a unit with 410a will probably cost more then a new unit. -Source HVAC tech

  • @TheGizmoGarage

You definitely do not need to add refrigerant to compressors, as they are sealed units! Unless the unit has rust/holes the refrigerant is supposed to work indefinitely! And it would be pointless to repair and recharge a portable unit many years down the road. Might just as well buy a brand new unit.

How do you take it apart & clean it? After 2 summer ours was non usable due to mildew smell. Delonghi has poor customer service & will not respond to inquiries. Recommend not spending $400 on this unless you can properly take apart to get to mildew smell area

  • @TheGizmoGarage

    @TheGizmoGarage

    Жыл бұрын

The mildew likely occurred from the unit being used in constant high-humidity conditions. You can try to run it in a room in dehumidifying mode, make sure humidity level stays low for a couple days, that will likely prevent mildew from living on the condenser coil. Make sure to drain the condensation and water in a timely manner too. Hope it helps.

Since the vent is fully exposed outside, if wind blows rain directly to the venting area during heavy rain, yes you may get water into your unit. Best to place it on a window that's protected from the rain with extended roofing area or awing

Delonghi’s are a ticking time bomb, they’re not even made by Delonghi they’re made by a Chinese company called Royal Sovereign. I’ve had mine for three years and recently it wouldn’t shut down when I pushed the button, I opened it up and the entire power inlet had melted. Delonghi has had so many product recalls it’s bewildering.

Mine does the same. Always a lot of water coming out of that clear drip hose. I have a different model & the dehumidifier runs when the AC is running, so I'm constantly emptying water. Where can I buy insulation sleeve? And it's for the white accordion flex hose that gets hot going from the unit out the window, right?
