My home office is in the upstairs area of my house. Our central air can't keep it cool up there and its constantly about 10-15f warmer up there. I started using a window unit and while it did the job, I noticed that because it was pumping air from my office out of the window, it was pulling in hot air because of the negative pressure. I heard that dual hose units fix the issue, but I ended up going with a Midea U window unit instead and love it. Its whisper quiet, does a great job even when its 105f+, and is very effecient. I barely noticed a change in my electricity bill.

I purchased a used unit on Facebook marketplace for $200 about a month ago to use in my RV and it seems to be working pretty good so far. But because it’s used I didn’t receive a manual and was not sure which of the little symbols meant what. Yes, I’m a dork for not knowing but I figured it out just now since you mentioned the unit is also a heater. Nice! My 14K btu delonghi looks just like your black one and I bought it back in 2015. Still works to this day, but my compressor got stuck a couple times when I shut it off while running. Have to up the temp to go into fan mode before shutting off and so far it's been working.

Bought a DeLongi a/c in 2020. Worked for two summers and this year, stopped blowing cold air. I called the company who told me the warranty is one year and I should buy a new one. I expect an a/c to last more than the few times it was used and for a company to stand behind its products. Obviously, DeLongi doesn’t.

I have a portable AC unit and I also wrapped duct insulation around the hose but the heat was still managing to escape so I also tied a large fleece blanket around the exhaust tube and while it kinda looks like crap it definitely keeps the heat from the tube contained so the AC unit isn't fighting with its own heat expulsion. I've had a Black & Decker portable unit for 2-1/2 years but needed one with higher BTUs so bought a Delonghi Pinguino today which is how I ended up here 😀

I've had this same one for a few years as well and cover it every winter. Just took it out to use and now it blows my fuses. Vacuumed the filter checked the coils and the drain all good. Why us it not working

Purchase a Delonghi Pinguino from Sam's club nearly 11 years ago a 10,000 btu and it has worked flawlessly till now purchase a 14,000 btu at $400 hopefully I'll get the same life, on a side note I took a part the old one and found out that the compressor was so covered with dust which was probably causing it not to blow cold air put it back together and it works again. And I agree where I live they no longer sale the Pinguino and charge on average $650 and higher for a 14,000 btu had to buy from store in Michigan.

I purchased the DeLonghi insulating sleeve for the long hose and and no no water is coming out of the hose and it's 80° outside. Yesterday it was 80 degrees outside and I was collecting 2 gallons every 4 hours without the insulating sleeve on

Great video! I have this same model but really only need it as a dehumidifier for my back room. Will I still need the hose attachment for this feature and can you suggest where I could get the drip hose from? Lastly, would I be able to run this drip out of a window? Thanks so much!

Thanks. Yes, the hose will be needed as the hot exhaust has to vent to somewhere. The clear condensate drain line I used can be purchased at Lowe’s. It has to drain downwards so gravity can do it’s thing

I purchased my Delonghi Penguino portable AC in 2019. Suddenly stopped blowing out cold air end of last summer. I did all the troubleshooting steps but it didn’t help. Next time I will go with another brand or have a mini split installed.

I picked up a grey version of your white Penguins. We got ours from Costco for 399.99 I believe in 2015 or 2018 when our apartment disallowed window units. Too bad because that window unit was near perfect. Anyway, I am getting a red light and noticing that it isn’t cooling as well. What is your best guess bout the red light?

The only individual light i remember was for the condensation tank. Have you checked to make sure it’s not full of water?

What size hose?

Have you tried wrapping that hose in a ton of insulation? It's not going to be perfect, but it might be better. The problem with portables is they concentrate heat in the condenser which is inside the unit and inside your barn. They heat up a lot. Like 140 degrees or more hot. They are normally "cooled" in 100F outside air on a wall unit or central air unit. How ever much electricity that consumes is being dumped into your room as heat. It is only due to the over 100% efficiency rate of a heat pump (it can move more heat outside than what it is generating) that allows them to work at all.

Possible, but it doesn’t just go away. That would mean there’s also a leak. HVAC repair would cost more than the replacement unit

When this one fails, if you can find one, buy one with analog controls. The digital stuff fails. It is a very bad environment for the digital control panels. My Frigidaire failed in that way. I googled it and it is very common point of failure. I have a window unit with analog controls purchased around 2001 that still works fine. In my bedroom, I had to replace a digital one from 2000 in 2007 (though it was the fan bearing that went, no parts available) and I replaced with an analog one it still runs fine. I have a second wall unit from 1973 in my kitchen and it is running right now. I just wish I hadn't replaced its twin in my living room about 10 years ago. (no duct work in the house as I have steam heat)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a portable AC with analog controls. I haven’t looked for one either, so that may be why I haven’t seen one

I have a portable air conditioner. The unit I have I need to raise it for the drain hose which I have pointing into a mop bucket. Also I have a hose cover for it to reduce the heat coming from the exhaust hose making it a little bit more efficient and it reduces the noise coming from the hose. You can get an insulated hose for it too. My portable air conditioner is similar to the new one you got. It's a 7,000 BTU unit too and it struggles to cool this room that's 12' x 11' with a 7' ceiling and I'm only in Ireland so it doesn't get as hot as where you live. I know you don't like the way the delingi one blows upwards but that's the best way to cool because as you know cold air falls while hot air rises. Pointing the cool air forward will not really displace the hot air above you which is one reason why the cheap unit didn't cool too well.

3 years isn't all impressive to me... Have an LG portable ac (LP1213GXR) that was bought in 2013(maybe 2014) and still works to this day. Was used constantly in the warmer months from 2013/14 to 2019 to cool an unconditioned but finished attic room. Only stopped using it frequently post 2019 because I moved in late 2019 and didn't need it's cooling ability for the new place. Still bring it out on occasion to test it and have used it 1 time to dehumidify a room after a water issue... Now it was like $400(ish) when new and it doesn't have a heat pump mode... So those are cons but this might be the case of, you get what you pay for.

I have mine with three years and the hose is still as good as the day I got it. You can buy new hoses for them though. The hoses they supply with the units are cheaply made but you can buy insulated hoses for them which will reduce the heat radiated from the hose making it more efficient. I find the heat radiated frtom the hose when its not covered tends to make the room warm behind the unit but when its covered it reduces the heat behind the unit. Unfortunately because of the way the portable air conditioners work it will always be a little bit warm behind them because they pull in warm air from the sides and behind them.

Well, our brand new one's CST remote doesn't work :-( Will try to contact the company this week and see what we can do from Zurich, Switzerland - very frustrated!

The panel lights of my Pequino don’t light panel anymore. It works but can’t tell what mode I’m in ….air heat or other. Any ideas to fix panel light?

Yes. I seal that with tape to minimize heat loss. That, and insulating the hose gives the unit the best possible chance at peak efficiency.

Everything today is made to such poor quality standards. In 2014 I replaced a very large wall unit that was built in 1973. It still worked and it had a heater and an air conditioner. The replacement Frigidaire was allegedly more efficient. Not only was it not more efficient, the electronics broke exactly 5 years after I bought it, the cutoff for the warranty. Now it runs all the time and has to be unplugged to make it stop. To be fair though, it does cool still, I just have to keep an eye on the temperature and unplug it if it drops below 70. I haven't replaced it because it's very big and expensive and needs to be done by a professional as it is built into the wall. I plan on pulling the electronics and trying to troubleshoot. OF COURSE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. You should never have to replace an air conditioner in 3 years.. That is an outrage. It is a HUGE waste of precious natural resources.

I simply cannot believe that you are "happy" to get 3 years out of a 300 Dollar appliance. There are millions of 30 year old air conditioners running throughout the country.

This one runs all the time and has to deal with lots of in and out traffic. Knowing that portable AC units have a generally short lifespan I’m happy with getting 3 years of trouble free performance before it messes up. Of course, I would prefer many more years. That’s just not realistic with modern portable units

I had a haeir brand portable Air con that did the same thing, died after 8 years, lol turned on but no cool air. Must be a freon leak.
