My previous employers provided me with Dell latitude laptops. They came with i5 or i7 chips and they were very reliable. When I needed to buy a laptop, I was able to find a great deal on a refurbished latitude at Dell’s outlet site. I don’t look for anything fancy just something that is reliable. The only thing I don’t like is that the battery it came with only lasts for 1-2 hours.

Speaking as an employee Latitudes are issued to you by your employer rather than bought by individuals. The ones I used work fine for getting work done but were not really consumer home laptops.

True indeed. However Latitdues are usually bought via direct sales for small business owners and they also are commonly bought in the second hand market by consumers. That's hopefully who this review will benefit.

Also, the 5000s series is not premium. The 9000s series is the premium edition for executives/consultants. 7000s series for Senior or mid-level analysts (legal analysts, data analysts, or underwriting analysts).

My employer gave me latitude 7730. The fan always blows and is annoying. It has poor heat management. If it warms up the trackpad stops working. I found that if you raise the laptop from ground levels the whole heating issue disappear 😅

This is kind of nostalgic for me, as my second job was at a company that used exclusively Dell business machines: laptops for sales agents who travelled around and abroad, and desktops for offices like the one I worked in - and imo those were beyond terrible. I worked there for about a year and half, and during that time my pc tower had to be replaced twice. Since then every time I considered buying a Dell as new laptop those memories stopped and convinced me to go with other brands. Right now though I’m using a Matebook B5-430, which is part of Huawei business line-up….and it’s absolutely great (but I’ve only had it for a couple of months). :)

Latitude machines still remain very popular even today. Though Thinkpad is currently the king in the field in terms of raw sales numbers.

I solved the thermal issue on another machine by simply cutting out every 2nd slitborder, thereby making the slits 3 times as big as they used to be. That improves airintake considerably.

Battery, ram and ssd are easily accessible under backplate. There are two hard drive slots. One is Gen 3 and one gen 4.

I have this laptop for work. The track pad is awful. It's tiny and feels cheap. Also after less than a year this laptop is VERY slow. The display is great but the speakers are so bad. My iPhone SE is louder. I have an external keyboard and mouse that I use with this, otherwise I would go nuts.

That wasn't the Dell Latitude for 2023. That was for 2022. 5430 had Intel i7 1265U CPU. 5440 is the 2023 version with i7 1365U CPU. It isn't even the best version. 7440 and 9440 were the primary Dell Latitude for 2023 for mid-size companies and large companies. Far better quality builds with 7440 and 9440 Dell Latitude with i7 1365U CPU.
