They should have used the original music in Anniversary and hopefully a new Tomb Raider remake of the original game to capture some of the original games atmosphere! This includes the high and low choir voices!

I grew up with 90's CGI but I honestly don't miss it much (remember that really weird MK1 cartoon? Anyway) I do miss pre-rendered backgrounds though, nowadays it would look super amazing, a shame after PS2 no one used it anymore

I finished Tomb Raider 1 today. 28 years later. Still a masterpiece. Still hard!!! Very hard!!!!!

It's 2016 and I still feel the luster of classic Tomb Raider games. They can truly stand their ground today and compete against today's franchises.

This light projection out of the scion is basically what they used for the orb in 'TR The Cradle Of Life' it's even in a similar boat. :D

@@CoriSparx That, and it doesn't seem to add anything particularly significant to understanding the story. Despite the scion activating, it didn't show anything comprehensive. The boat scene was drawn out, and the contents of the book added nothing as far as I could see. It would've been visually pretty at the time, but nothing more.

its got nothing to do with the story of the original. my guess is this was sort of a demo or trailer type thing made very early into development.

Why did "Core Design" have to die? Just because of the mistakes in AOD ? It's a shame because this team was exceptionally good at their artistic abilities. Alone this music from the great "Mr. Nathan Mc Cree" was sooooo atmospheric and nostalgic ...👌 ...Thank you for sharing....and greetings from Germany.....😎

I agree wholeheartedly. such an awesome design team. I think they spent a lot of money on Angel of Darkness so they have to shut down when it did not do so well. It sold pretty well though. I am not sure completely why they shut down. But they were phenomenal on the PS1. Ninja is a fun game, and I kind of enjoyed Deathtrap Dungeon and Fighting Force.

@@Oldschool1943 I played a few levels of IV but I didn't like it that much. Few years ago I played through all of Chronicles because I hoped that I got a similar feeling like with TR II. But unfortunately it wasn't that good either in my opinion. So I stick with I - III. Those are the legendaries for me. I didn't like any of the other TR games. Angel of Darkness is pure garbage and the first reboot was weird. The second reboot was a woke catastrophe with a QTE shitfest.

Same. 2 had the perfect balance of story telling, puzzle solving, platform, and action.

It was. Economy was booming, people hated each other less, superpowers negotiated more, lgbqt was less forced

Core desing, we want you back. I watch the tb anniversary edition for psp, and see that no one capture the real escense of lara and the atmosphere from the tombs ; the ilumination, ambient, music, and the gameplay, all was perfect.

20 years old and still better rendered than food fight.

I always loved this intro and wish it had made it into the game properly. It shows so much of Laras character without any need for action or dialogue or an over-flattering camera angle. All we need here is a magnificent set piece, some colorful and interesting environments and an effortlessly beautiful and capable Lara to make us want to explore whatever mysteries are about to unfold before us 😊❤️‍🔥

Good old days when game designers actual created new games and not just remodeled old ones and turned their characters 180 degrees. Nowadays you will find new concept mostly in the indie scene. The triple A ones just copy each other who can make it worse. We need Core design and also Team Silent back.

I like the original Tomb Raider games and I have my issues with the new games but Core Design's engine was always outdated and is especially outdated in 2019-2021. Moving a character in a 3D space in an adventure game without analog controls is a chore. Mario 64 released the same year and showed that analog controls were the best going forward.

what would of been funnier is if she solved the puzzlebox and the Cenbites came to grant her wish with 7 blood sacrifices.

I remember when these kinds of in game cinematic were top notch. We’d stop everything we were thinking about and just absorb them.

I did play the original tomb raider somewhat back in the day, but I don't remember that much, still makes me a bit nostalgic.

... Why do I feel Deja Vu watching this?... I feel like I've seen it somewhere before. I can't believe this game is 20! I played it for the first time in 2010 at ten years old on a dusty PS1 and have loved the series ever since. I'm working on an art project to celebrate it's anniversary, too.

There is a very similar scene in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, the second Angelina Jolie movie, where she decodes the Orb aboard that Chinese family's houseboat and sees images leading her to Africa. It would appear this cutscene may have served for the inspiration for that scene.

The classic TR games will forever be in my heart. Back then they really made good solid games

The deleted FMV was cool. I replayed all the PS1 games a few years back, tough controls to get used to again, but still had it's fun moments.

Her aristocratic elements were her worst elements. Lara had a lot more to offer than 'class' (a word which is not entirely disentangled from 'social class'). I agree, it sucks that we don't make the games here in Derby any more, but that's how globalisation works. We don't make our own steal. We don't make most of our own media representations. It's none of the companies faults. The music in the new game is great, though I admit that there is no need for the lack of signature music, especially the classic theme. Lara is my favourite video game character, but she was also incredibly flawed. Her personality often didn't amount to more than cheesy one liners, her wealth was used to make her seem cool (as though rich people are better than poor people), she was too superhuman, and she wasn't a serious archaeologist. These are all things that have been worked on for the new games. I don't know exactly what you think is missing?

+ FreekinEkin2 If Lara has more to offer than 'class', then eschewing her aristocratic elements for the 2013 reboot, is disingenuously throwing the baby out with the bath water from the cannon. Disclaimer,. haven't played Rise of the Tomb Raider. For PlayStation 4 owners such as myself, a damning example of Microsoft's 'globalisation', and yes that sucks! The dreadful title theme music from the reboot continues to be used? I cannot recall a single note of that right now....Which is a shame. Classic Lara came across as a convincingly well read, intelligent research archaeologist. And a 'classy', witty, gutsy adversary against her foes. That's the Lara I miss, flaws and all. In Tomb Raider 2013, Lara herself is 'broken' into an uninspired character, that I really had no empathy for. She lurched from one disaster to another, suddenly becoming her homicidal gun-crafting American cousin Laura Croft in the process and left me feeling underwhelmed. I know which Lara I prefer.

+MrAeRoZz That and the 2013 game title being a complete misnomer, there is no Tomb Raiding....More accurate to call it Cave Looter? The original games made you feel like an explorer and intelligent solver of ancient puzzles. This one talked down to the player, by giving them almost immediate access to a 'survival Instinct' help mechanism, that removed any of challenge whatsoever to the increasingly repetitive 'puzzles' therein. What a let down!

That's the most immersive fmv of the 5 games

Because of my nostalgia for this series of games, I enjoyed this one clip more than anything being offered today by any studio. The video game industry is in SHAMBLES, and the AAA publishers could learn a thing or two from the golden age of video games.

There's such a lovely wonder and beauty to this cutscene. Why the heck did they remove it?... Glad I got to see this though, cheers for sharing. When the hologram displayed, first I thought "Wow, that must be Atlantian or something because of how advanced that relic is...". And then I thought "Me no dumb dumb! you dumb dumb!" 😅😝

I'll bet this was extremely fascinating back then. While I was born in 2002 and grew up with stuff like COD and sonic colors, this is still pretty interesting.

Original Lara Croft was the best, some people think the new Lara looks better but to me she don't even look like Lara, so glad they remastered 1, 2 n 3 into HD for Xbox n PS, I hope they bring Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation in HD too, being able to play the originals on Xbox bring bck so many childhood memories.

It's interesting to see they reused the textures of the boat for Maria Doria in TR2

This came out only a year after Toy Story, and despite only having a small team of people to work on the fmv's, compared to the huge team Toy Story had. It general looks pretty good.

I dreamed at that point that gaming graphics would look like this and now it looks even better.
