This works if you’re doing the work manually. But it doesn’t work if you use automation software because the computer can’t see where to delete without a value attached (like the column he creates)

I may be missing something but once you have the columns to see if a row is empty (the blank and 1 values) could you not just filter and delete it then

Yes you can, if you don't want to remember keyboard shortcuts that's valid. I just include the shortcuts for those who want to know the fastest way!

I wish I could do that… but working with a database with thousands of information from 2009 to current day… 😅 would take WAY too long. I definitely bit off more than I could chew 😂

I use go to then special then check on blanks that would highlight all the blanks then right click and delete all . Thanks

You can select Blank instead unchecking 'Text'

Just applay the "only blanks" Filter to all Collumns, CTRL-A, delete Columns. Way faster in this example

@@mansooralt Isn't the point of the video to delete blank rows? I didn't see anything about deleting blank columns. The point is to get rid of records which do not contain any data. If you get rid of named columns, then you are getting rid of data categories which currently do not contain any data. If data later is acquired which should be stored in that named column, you will have an error if you try to enter it, because the column will no longer exist.

The problem with this approach is that if there are any partially empty rows, it will delete those, messing up your data.

Why use an if statement when the counta will suffice already? Filter out non zero counts so only zero counts shown, then delete them all

That works. The point of the IF is to allow us to select those rows with go to special so we can delete them quickly. You can still do it without but you'll need to filter, then select all the filtered empty rows, and delete them, then clear filter. So whatever you prefer. There's probably 100 ways to do the same thing.

Another video saved... Also a question.. How can I search for multiple cells with different data such as 123456a 75698b 32454c etc.. they also are in multiple colums and rows at the same time. is there a way to select all of those via some sort of search function?

How do you quickly apply this formula to every row. My document has 50,000 rows. When I do exactly what you do it doesn’t fill the formula for the rest and flash fill isn’t working for formulas

Manually inputting the formula in each row would be just as tedious (or more)as finding and deleting each blank row

Not if you're dealing with an extremely large data set and don't want to have a bunch of cross referential tables. I've got one with 120 columns currently, and that's still referencing 8 other tables to get all the data I need for it.

Because it's a table not a range. tables will do that automatically.

Why don’t you just select the whole thing ? Then Ctrl G and ALT S : select blanks and then delete…
