Thanks Tom.. this was a long edit, took maybe 14 hours to get all the footage into this one video, and im really pleased its now ready and i can sit back and breath for an evening... got a 15 hour shift in the dayjob tomorrow, so im glad this is up, online and flying now... Another Great vid , i can relate to what your doing but am in awe as all your nuts ,bolts etc seem to be easy to undo lol

Del, could I suggest you invest in a cheap ioniser? They're only about £30, and their job is to drop the dust out of the air. Lot of people have them in houses, especially if they're asthmatic (which is how I know about them), but they do a fantastic job of clearing dust out of the air. Not only would it clear the air quicker after abrasion jobs, you could bung it on a few hours before you start painting to reduce airborne motes, switch it off while you're painting obviously. Just a thought. Great vid as always

I did as you with the headlight on my Superglide! Funny. A small thing but looks great!

Hey Del, like the direction you're going👍 On the rocker covers, might not be applicable in this build, but what I've done in the past with chromed aluminium casings is taken them to an electroplater/chromer and had the chrome removed electrochemically - basically the reverse process of applying the chrome. Cost peanuts, the aluminium casting comes out as the day it was cast, which then gives you the option of polishing the ali to whatever gloss level you like, instead of painting it. Personally, not a huge fan of chrome, but I do adore satin or polished ali casings , especially on vintage bikes.

Good plan buddy.. but there isn't a platers anywhere near me, and im on a deadline (self inflicted admittedly), so this is the quickest option for now.... but ill remember that maybe if i do the primary case later on.. thats massive and still don't have a plan for that... toying with the idea of a belt driven primary, but just can't afford it yet.!

Good Video as usual, thanks. I'm glad you didn't have to deal with the horrible middle "D" ring valve cover pieces. Tons I had to replace cause they distorted and leaked like a sieve.

@@Moonfleet41 No, Harley had a big twin that had two rocker covers with rubber "D" shaped rings. the middle caste aluminum "D" ring sat on the main rocker box assembly with a rubber gasket that sealed the top cover. The middle "D" ring when they first came out would warp and splash oil for the rocker arms would leak because of the of the warpage and Harley had to pay to replace the "D" ring with a better one. It was pain to get everyone all aligned right before torquing down '95 and up for a few years.

@@hsmith3844 Aha.. i know what you man now.. yeah, the issue was holding them in place before you torqued it down.. as much as the advice was to fit them dry, i always used to grease them lightly with some white lithium grease which is thick and sticky and would hold them in place every time.. Harley seem to learn a lot of their lessons the hard way aye..

Ha ha, thanks Robert, its all a big jigsaw puzzle, and tricks like putting bolts back in holes, and nuts back on threads stops you losing them or mixing them up.. electrical plugs and wiring you can label with masking tape, and as long as you have no parts left over once you're done.. then you must have got it right aye..lol... have a great weekend sir, and keep warm.. I know what you mean about bills to pay. As soon as I get home on the weekend to coastal Carolina from working my job 3 hours away, I completely understand about getting on the bike and riding or working on it. Gives me a peaceful feeling and that freedom.

Chrome powder coat would be a great idea on the rocker covers if you prefer them to look original. It’s easy, cheap and will never rust. Just a thought. Another great video, thanks.

You should try mixing gloss with the flat black

you should consider installing "rocker lockers" while them rocker covers are off, ive done a few sets, they really help quiet down top end noise.

Hi Jeff.. is that those little tapered tubes that take up the end float.. i think i read about those, it will reduce it a bit.. but half of the rocker noise comes from end float on the rocker itself, and you need that for heat expansion... This bike had a massive list of mods and upgrades by the previous owner, including new primary and secondary cam chain tensioners, new chains, and a pair of SE 203 cams, plus roller tappets.. so ill take a good look at the invoices i have and see if he maybe had them done with all tat lot already before i go ordering them..!! thanks for the nudge mate.. have a good weekend.. Haynes books are good to..I use their techbook and your videos when ever doing any thing on my bikes and their books on that bike over kill I no lol ..but better safe than sorry

No book is overkill, any technical data in invaluable because it serves as peace of mind for that 70mph thrash up the road and you know it wont fall apart.lol! Haynes are really well laid out and often a lot more "to the point" than a genuine HD manual.. but the factory books carry data that Haynes don't bother with.. maybe you wont use it.. but if you ever need to.. then its there aye,!

Please can you tell me what grade of sanding wheel do you use to sand down the chrome, I have engine covers to paint,what do you think is best to hand paint these. Thanks.

You just need to scuff them up so the paint grips, i used a medium course flap disc.. the type with flaps of scotch brite laid over each other..!!!

Thats very kind of you mate, its all about the money, setting up a bike business costs more than buying a house..you have to pitch the business at a given direction.. are you gonna do custom bike building?. nobody pays those silly prices for hand built bikes any more, so you're gonna end up doing repairs and servicing most of the time?, then you spend all your days tracing electrical faults on clapped out commuter bikes, then you'll need to do MOT's to make it pay the bills on a constant basis.. and thats another ridiculous cost to set up... so as you can see... yes id love to do it Iain, but without a lotto win im stuck with youtube and a dayjob.. @@wendyduncan9544 Yeah shame aye, but thats the brutal reality of it.. i know a guy who owns his own bike garage.. he does MOT's, all repairs, rents out space in his unit to a training school, and also does car serciving... all just to keep the bills paid.. Maybe if our numbers come up, we'll open a social garage, free benches for a charity donation and coffee on tap... oh to shed the shackles of debt and bills aye..!

Hi Tony.. i agree.. i love the look of brushed alloy.. but this lot is all chrome over steel, and the rocker covers are chrome, patchy and scuffed off over alluminium... none of it would look good for very long.. and i want to tone down the bling.. so back it is buddy... there will still be lots of chrome highlights, and the bodywork's gonna be baddass..!!!!

A Dyna Wide Glide weighs 293Kg, meddle ground on Harley terms, the Sportster are about 250, and the big bad Ultra Classic weighs in at 374kg.. over a third of a tonne.!

Just blacking out the big areas of chrome to take away the slightly overdone bling on these older bikes... it'll still be shiny and clean, and there will still be chrome, but just highlights not feature areas.. so not quite murdered out black.. but a lot less bling for sure. .and the bodywork this time will be wrapped in some awesome vinyl.... it'll be a feature for a new company i've found, and should make some awesome video... just got to get through this big bit first... thanks for your support, have a great weekend..
