The best action will start in about another 6 weeks or so with schoolies hitting the young of the year shad all night long, fishing around bridge pilings at night can produce non-stop action, with the occasional walleye thrown in. I'm trying to locate that railroad bridge to know the area you were fishing in, I suspect you might be above Easton, in any case nice video.

I'll be on the lookout for that. Thank you for the info. I had such a blast targeting them. Any luck throwing bigger swim baits for them?

@@EasternPaAngler Stripers started coming back to the Delaware in large amounts sometime in the early 1980s and kept increasing throughout the 1990s. I used to catch numerous fish over 20 pounds in the spring and late fall from the wing dam in New Hope to the Calhoun Street Bridge on everything from large saltwater poppers, 8 to 10 inch swimming plugs, and various spoons and jigs. Big stripers would travel all the up to the New York section of the Delaware to spawn shortly after the Shad run ended, I used to catch them at the New Hope wing dam often catching 20 or more large fish in a few hours, the biggest striper I ever caught in the nontidal part of the river was 28 pounds. I don't get out nearly as much as I used to, however, I have noticed a marked drop off in large stripers in the nontidal section for the last 10 years or so with no large fish caught during the fall, when in the 1990s we would catch very large fish around bridge pilings on large swinning plugs and poppers. I haven't caught a striper over 5 pounds in well over 10 years. That doesn't mean that they aren't there, but I don't think the numbers are as large as before. Towards the end of August through October, possibly into November, you should be able to catch large numbers on 5 or 6 inch swimming plugs like Bombers, Daiwa, Yo Zuri and similar type lures. Overcast days and nighttime are the best times to fish. If you wade out to a bridge piling or use a boat to get there you'll hear and often see the stripers and other fish hitting the young of the year shad. I hope this helps you, if you need anymore info please let me know. Good luck.

@@tigercatjones9948 I know with the tighter regulations on the tidal waters they are starting to make a come back. I also talked to a marine biologist who said heavy stocking in Canadian waters is having an impact on increasing numbers here but adversely affecting the shad population. I've been fishing the Delaware for over 30 years and this is by far the best numbers as far as fish under 28". I catch a few here and there but never like I've been over the last week. In this particular spot just a few nights ago I caught double digits of smallmouth. Last night I didn't see a single smallmouth so I had a feeling something was up whether a large predator moved in or another species pushed them out. I got my answer at dusk. You are correct that I'm in Easton. I appreciate the knowledge and feedback. I love talking fishing with people who know the river well.
