Delaware Lackawanna RS3s

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Delaware-Lackawanna action on August 7, 2012. A grain train with 4 RS-3's and a C420 followed by the PT-98 with 4 units. The C420 was added to the PT-98 at Pocono Summit and lifted 42 (!) cars from the NS interchange at Slateford. My only regret was missing the RS-3's dragging the grain out of Scranton, as I got a late start that morning. Enjoy!

    LVRC, so so many good souvenirs. RS3, RS11, their crew, Président Wolfson, all Morrisville yard pile of RS3 for spare parts, horseshoe curve, Wolcott covered bridge and so much more....and all that 100 miles railroad destroyed by a single boxcar. Yep, the boxcar that killed the railroad. So unfair. Without that CV oops, may be LVRC would still be alive today with NHVT freight up to Whitefield with its ball signal.... It was decades ago in an other life ❤

    That Jersey Central model phase was never done in HO. They all makes with louvres body. All CPR RS3 had those air filters opening. I plan to make one in 1/8 scale and chop nose it will be. Don´t know yet wich CPR it will be. They were so ugly with flat cab end, 2 added windshield windows stolen from scrapped sisters, ugly, ugly, ugly. Love them so much. It´s gonna to be quite a beast. That JC single tone horn is quite impressive while echoing. Thanks for these precious videos.

  • @fmnut

    @fmnut

    9 жыл бұрын

    Not sure why you are calling these "end cabs". The cab on the RS-3 is farther from the end of the frame than it is on most of the Century models excepting the C420.

  • @jacobwoods8738

    @jacobwoods8738

    9 жыл бұрын

    I call them end cab because the cab is closed to the end, they have a very long nose ( traditionally operated long hood froward) and a short hood where the generator, lavatory and/or air brakes were located. Technically the term end cab means something like an SW1500, NP15, SW1,SW4, BLW S-12, etc. that has no short hood, with a very long "nose" and the cab at the very back. However, I figured the term could fit the RS-3 as well because compared to he length of the front hood, the rear hood is very short, so basically the cab is at the rear end of the cram. I may be stretching the term, since it does usually just to switchers, but these are still road switchers. Hope this helps!

    It's a Nathan M3RT1, also known as a "tilt bell" M3. The bell facing the cab was elongated and bent upward to clear the cab roof. They were designed pretty much for the Alco RS-2 and 3, although they could be fitted to other types that had a cab wall mount if the mounting was extended to clear the roof overhang. They found their way onto a variety of units as the older Alcos were retired.

Yes, they still use the RS-3's but they have not yet put all 4 together on a big train this summer to my knowledge. They are using them more on the local runs around Scranton.. They are usually stored during the winter months to reduce wear and tear caused by the cold weather.
