Delaware Lackawanna ALCO's On The Carbondale Line Winter and Spring 2018

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In the Winter and Spring of 2018 I made 2 trips to chase Delaware Lackawanna's fleet of historic ALCO locomotives on the Carbondale Line. With an increase in the Fracking sand business, DL operates almost daily to and from Carbondale PA. Power for these trains is mostly 4 axle locomotives and on these 2 trips we managed to see the RS-3's including CNJ 1554 along with RS-32,C420, C424, C425 and M420 locomotives in action. The Delaware Lackawanna along with the other GVT properties are some of the few places you can still see these ALCO locomotives working in everyday revenue service.

FYI, that used to be 4 tracks 100 years ago. There is still a lot of potential for a lot more traffic on that line. It runs through a perfect industrial area. It used to be a D&H line. I remember the trains that used to run through there.

Update: Four fully loaded fracking sand cars jumped the rotted and deteriorated track on this line. It happened in Dickson City, Pa. on April 9, 2019. It was only a matter of time. What a cleanup.

I had no idea any Alco's were still being used. I just added one to my N scale fleet.

We still have quite a few Alcos (well MLWs) running on the OSR in Canada as well as a trio of F units still working everyday in regular freight service!

Nice video! Did you really chase the train when the roads were covered with snow?
