Del Worsham Smashes Record (THREE TIMES) At Funny Car Chaos

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

When NHRA driver and tuner Del Worsham entered Funny Car Chaos at Texas Motorplex, everyone knew the record would be under threat from his big show nitro Toyota. What did you think of his runs? Let me know in the comments.
It didn't take long for Worsham to show his cred with a stunning 3.21 pass (eighth mile) on his first qualifying run. He went on to break the record again in the first round and semi finals before a wild final run. It should be noted that these are eighth mile runs, not 1000 feet runs.
Also, keep an ear out for the throttle whack/whomp Worsham needed to get reverse!
While the crashes, accidents and fires often get headlines, we love seeing records more than anything else in drag racing. There's nothing like the cheers from the starting line and the crowd.

And make no mistake, 4 wide racing is just stupid! Who can watch all 4 cars in 3.7 seconds? It reminds me of the WWE of motorsports, a real circuslike atmosphere. And coming in 3rd or 4th in a drag race is just WRONG!. I can recall seeing 3 and 4 wide racing in the Sixties, but those were not legit races like today. Mostly a one off deal put on by the track promoter for show.

Teams can race without the major sponsors, they did in the 40's 50's 60's 70's, true it won't be the same performance levels but there would be more racers like it was in the past, I know I raced in the 70's 80's and 90's. What you haven't seen in the showrooms as you described you won't see and that has nothing to do with sponsors who imply that the race car involves their product when it doesn't. I won't waste time debating the issue but in the past race cars represented the brand by using the brands components and too many times that is not the case today, as stated earlier there is NOTHING on that car from Toyota.

Top Fuel cars are running the 1/8th mile in 2.8 at over 290 mph. Best I have ever seen ET is 2.7 second and best speed is 299 mph. Just unbelievable performance. Nobody ever pays attention to 1/8th mile numbers in a 1/4 mile race, but they can reveal the incredible acceleration of the Top Fuel cars.

I wonder what a 2.7/299 at half track would translate to for the full quarter based on that data? Yes, I realise that the top fuel class is for 1000' but I'm just curious what figures would be theoretically possible. I'm not much of a maths guy :)

When Schumacher went 4.42 he went 3.00@281, so that tells you if the fuse was long enough for that extra 320 feet, they would be way under that

There’s little disagreement that they would probably be in the 4.3s on the quarter. Potentially even a very high 4.2s

@@Jonathan-L Johnathan, probably in the 4.25 range. I'm hoping to see the first 340 mph this year. If it happens, we may have to wait until fall at Maple Grove. I race my bike there and swear that track runs down hill. Many records are set there because, in my opinion, the slope and that it is surrounded by trees which give off oxygen.
