Thank for that Q&A. How do you set up the Theos for a recording into the MixPre3 II? Could you give me an advice what gain to set on the TX and what level (dBu) on the RX? How do I get the best quality out of it? I am using the included W.Lav Pro.

This is a great rundown! I've been holding off ordering them to see if they lived up to the hype and it seems they do. Might have to grab a set now that you've tested them.

Thanks Curtis! Deity seems to be going in the right direction. It is good to see competitors in this segment. For the main review, I'd love to know if the amplification power per channel can be adjusted as that can be a legal difference in jurisdictions wrt UHF licensing.

Yes, they can be adjusted to off, 10mW, 25mW, 50mW, and 100mW on each transmitter independent of the other.

I’ve been waiting for your review since I first saw these were coming out 😄👌 One question though: If I buy a unit in the US and use it in the EU will I be able to use simultaneous recording and transmission just based on location, or would I need to buy a unit in the EU for that? Not 100% sure, but I think you'll want to buy the non-US version. DEITY support should be able to confirm.

I wonder if it makes sense to buy Deity PR2 anymore? Deity promised it in Fall but it's still not out

Curtis, when you do the technical review, please test how the other lavalier mics in your kit work with the Theos. Which brands work and which don't.

If using the deity theos system synced into the canon c70 what do you set audio settings at in the c70 ? Plus do you set it to line level , mic, or mic 48volt in the back of c70 when syncing deity theos system into c70?

I would request a digital limiter to the transmitters in the next firmware.

Yeah...not ideal, but digital limiters would be better than none.

is this going to give me less headaches and more confidence as a solo content creator for long shoot days, such as car reviews and run and gun walk and talk interviews in a variety of locations over say the rode or dji? I am in the UK

In addition to that (obviously going to happen) XLR plug module, I would love to see Deity tackle an IEM/IFB system. In the UK at least we are unable to use the go-to Comtek as 216MHz is unlicencable as it is the primary spectrum for DAB Radio and Military, and for whatever reason Sennheiser, Shure and Lectrosonics only want to use half-rack TX units.

Curtis, at 33:38 I don't understand your reservations about Sennheiser MKE-2's, a very popular lav. Are you saying the MKE-2's need more gain than other lav's? Wish you could test the MKE-2 as well.

As far as sound quality, range and interference how do these compare to the sennheiser ew dp kit syncing into a c70 . Can I use sanken cos 11d with ew dp like I can with these new Deity Kits ?

The EW DP is single channel and doesn't transmit as far in my tests, outdoors at least.

Run around with a rack system yeah yeah yeah. In 2019 the place I worked for had me help out the local health department record and edit a video. The other guy who worked for the health department was using a table top one u half Standard wireless receiver an extension cord and connecting it to the camera! I can't remember how it came out but I remember there was a lot of color differences and I think I ended up using a lot of the audio from my neewer big shotgun mic on camera mount. FYI if you need a cheap shotgun mic I think I got that thing for like $15 and it worked great in & out doors it survived handing it out to kids and I got decent Audio in a non-treated school hallway!

Yes, it should work. I was able to connect a Sanken lavalier to the transmitter and it worked fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the US version CANNOT transmit and record outside the US either. It's electronically different and incapable of recording and transmitting at the same time, even if you're out of the country.

Legally, using your device in another country is sovereign to the laws in that country… but - if you bought the device in the US - it was probably configured for US laws… you could check with the company to see if that can be “unlocked” but I doubt the company would provision for that since that would open them up to violation of the injunction….

If you are short, like me…. And Allen you can always use the Ambient dipstick at the boom :) Don’t know how much I can recommend that :)

That's clipping because I didn't set the gain correctly. It is not the fault of THEOS.

Where did the clipping distortion come from on Allen’s channel? TX, mic, or recorder? Sounded nasty.

I can#t wait to try them :) but the buttonlayout seems to be pretty confusing. :) But did i hear right ? they can not record and transmit at the same time ?

Yes as I understand the Theos system cannot record and transmit at the same time in the US. Products bought outside of the US (for example in Europe) can record and transmit at the same time.

@mar7838 is correct. If outside of the US, the kit CAN record and transmit at the same time. The limitation in the US is a legal limitation, not a technical one.

The system will coordinate across multiple receivers.

@@gkochanowsky Got it. Just got confirmation from DEITY that when using the app, yes, the app takes into account both receivers and coordinates the frequencies for the 4 transmitters, presumably taking into account intermodulation. Scanning directly on the receiver, no.

Not sure how the EW or G4 are the same as these... The Deity is far superior, so much more flexible, better ergonomics, 32-bit recording, great app... Cant wait for the LEMO3 version!

@@curtisjudd sorry, I made that comment because of what someone on your stream said. Not what you have said. The theos seem to close the gap between them and the high-end ones. I preordered them months ago and finally arrived last week, very very happy with them. I never liked the g4, always felt like old tech and the EW are garbage imho, I think it's a result of sennheiser having been bought. Rode go? Never even considered. Great video btw, enjoyed the entirety of it. Can't wait for the proper review! :)

6ms from input on TX to output on RX. We measured by recording a wired mic and THEOS at the same time into the same recorder and measured clap waveform between the two channels.
