    I've watched you having your dehydrated meals and having recently purchased an air fryer with dehydration setting and going to make some of my own, this was perfect to see your method. I would never have thought the tomato puree would have went like that. Thanks for sharing the wealth and I look forward to trying some dehydrated meals of my own.

    Hi mate 👋, oh an air fryer is such a nice kitchen tool! At the beginning I was quite surprised with the tomato puree as well, you can get it definitely dryer when it is thinner but from my experience it doesn't effect the storage time. Alternatively you can also put the dehydrated meals into the freezer to be on the safe side or you put some 'water' absorbent (?) silica food cushions into the jar's. Cheers Stripey

    Yeah absolutely! Furthermore the dehydrator can pay for itself, faster with less fancy meals which require less dehydration time (electricity!) Thanks Stripey

    Sounds great, although with 5 hours of electricity I'm not sure of the economic benefits compared to cheap pre-packaged meals. I survived on de-hydrated meals for a while as a nomadic farm labourer. Plays havoc with your digestive system day in day out. Fish suppers from a half hour bicycle ride away were a medical necessity 😉

  • @StripeyHatGuy

    @StripeyHatGuy

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Ian Mc, the economic benefit is for sure questionable in comparison to bachelor paste, etc... in my case the dehydrator has 400W at 90C. Assuming it would need 400W at 75C (easier for calculation) it would mean that I used 2kWh of electricity in 5h - currently I am paying 27.84p/kWh so the electricity bill just for dehydration is 55.68p - of course I cooked it before hand on the stove. Good to hear your experience about long term use 😉 Thanks Stripey

    Great video! Why not add the seasoning to the meat when cooking before dehydration?

  • @StripeyHatGuy

    @StripeyHatGuy

    3 ай бұрын

    Thanks a lot! I could do it probably but as I wash the meat afterwards under warm water to reduce the fat as much as possible (increases the shelf life) I am not sure if it would really help. Usually I do put salt always on the meat before cooking as it helps the flavour imho but when dehydrating I haven't really done it.

    Hi Sammy 👋, It is a kind of depending. Usually 2-3 meals I can do with my sized dehydrator. From the variety point of view there is basically no limitations - so far I tried like 5 different ones, but still have like 10 more I want to try 👍 Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey

    How much water do you add to rehydrate them?

  • @StripeyHatGuy

    @StripeyHatGuy

    Ай бұрын

    Ou could weight your ingredients ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ to get the amount right, I just fill my ziplock bags up to the food level that it slightly covers the dehydrated food. When I hydrate rice I put a little more water in. Really nothing to over complicate tbh. when it is still hard after 12-15 minutes just add a little more water and when you add a little to much just wait a little longer. In the latter case everything gets a little softer but still fine. Hope it helps. ATB Stripey
