Degrees of Freedom

Every object has 6 degrees of freedom. If we want to control an object, like the knuckle in a suspension, we need to control those degrees of freedom. This video shows what degrees of freedom are and how we control them.

    Now that term 5-link-suspension does make a lot more sense. Excellent video! I am hooked. Always wanted to know about suspension geometry and did not find anything useful with more insight, until now! Please do not stop making those videos!

    Yes i am. I have lived in the US for over 50 years but i grew up in Holland until i was 9 and i still speak Dutch.

    Excellent video and info. So if i understand correctly. The front suspension on my car. Composed of 1 upper a-arm. That is shaped like a triangle 2 points connect to frame then they converge? To a single point. Is 2 links. The lower arm only having a sinlge mount points at each end is the 3rd link . and then the radius rod which. Secures to the lower arm. And then to a subframe. Makes 4 links. If 5. Would then the tierods be the 5th. Link The radius rods on my car are adjustable. Similar to how the tie rods adjust. I forget the terminology. Used but its something that describes. The fwd aft position of the hub. And the turn-in. Angle? From. Memory.? Its been a few years since reading through my cars factory service manual , and thr section about wheel alignment and suspension adjustment. My daily driver sedan. Came from factory with a 2rod and a center link setup on the rear carrier assembly. (Saying axle seems inaccurate due to it being a front mount front wheel drive vehicle and that what would be the axle is a tube that ties thevrear shocks with the hubs and the link setup. Carrier was only thing that came to mind easily that seemed to also was close to accurate term. My sedan is a 2002 infiniti g20. (Nissan primera p11) Did i get the lesson?

    Yes the tie rod is the 5th link.
