Deftones is one of those bands that feels good to discover; like whoa I found this treasure.

I agree. From what I know they were really young when they got married, and soon after that chino was touring and gone all the time while she was taking care of their first son. That can't be easy to deal with. I'm sure she wasn't perfect, but Chino has been clear about the fact that he wasn't always a perfect husband also.

You can see the pain and frustration written all over Chino's face when they're discussing his wife. She really must have gotten to him to push him to the point of composing "Mascara". I know what it's like to have a passion about something or to put heaps of effort into something, anything, and your significant other is completely silent in regards to it, and just shuts you out from what she's thinking, if she even has any thoughts on it at all. I'd rather have a bad reaction than no reaction at all.

Just to be Devil's Advocate, we all love Chino, but we have no idea what his wife (and children) were going through without him. Any single parent will tell you it's hell to do that job alone, and try adding maintaining a long-distance relationship on top of that. That would be awful. I imagine she's not the selfish bitch that most of these comments make her out to be, but that she was a loving wife who missed her husband and resented the thing that kept them apart. Show some compassion people.

thank you!! i mean, at the end of the previous video he even stated "i believe she doesnt listen to my music becuase THATS the thing that keeps me away from her" and honestly i live by that statement. imagine the music and the touring being a person, and imagine that person taking your significant other away from you. you would resent that specific person, right? so yes i absolutely agree, and of course it must've been hard on her and hard to deal with when it came to raising two children on her own, while her husband did the thing he loved most. i feel for her so much, and i wish they could've worked something out in the end. she was beautiful, and other than that she sounds like such a good person. she sticks by him as much as she could, and would not react to his songs or music because thats the thing that would take him away from her and the children.

I feel Chino on that one, I also wrote a song for my wife and she had no reaction and it fucks with you. It doesn't feel good but what can you do.

it's the worst when you put so much time and effort into something then share it with your loved one and their response is like "oh neat".......

I know what Chino went through. Maybe not to the extent he reached, because he put out his second successful record by this time. I take serious pride in my music; it's my art; my therapy; my ambition. I take every insecurity and everything I hate about myself or love about my life, and I make it into music. I showed the EP to my girlfriend of three years, and she treated it like it wasn't there. That is one of the most hurtful things she has ever done. I relate to Chino here.

Wow. Hearing Chino speak here from 1998 to 2010 you can see a huge difference in his attitude. He seems more...I don't know, quiet, more subtle but definitely not innocent ;)

Yeah...same man. Me and my friend just put out an EP a coupla weeks ago and I told my gf to listen to it..she still hasn't yet. I'm starting to think music career and girlfriend don't mix. I've been looking how these successful bands like Deftones, Korn, ect started and they all complain about one thing in particular: trying to balance their love life, children, friends ect with their hectic touring schedules and shit.
