you can use DFLUX subroutine for defining heat flux as a function of time and position. so you can define moving heat flux in an arbitrary path by using DFLUX subroutine in Abaqus. DFLUX is one of the famous subroutines of Abaqus/standard solver. it can be used in simulation of welding and 3d printing and grinding process and every process containing complex function of heat flux. by using this subroutine, you can simulate both of the surface and volumetric heat fluxes.

    Hello Mr. Mirzabozorg. Thank you for your great videos. You have helped me a lot in my work. Do you think we can use both DLOAD and DFLUX together in case of for example warm laser peening while heating the surface simultaneously? If we want to use these subroutines together, should we put them in the same UMAT.for file or we can use the job to run two UMAT files at the same time?

    Hi. You are welcome. Yes we can use DFLUX and DLOAD simultaneously. I have done this before for another project. There is no need to use UMAT to do this because they are not relevant together. You must attach one Fortran file to the job. In that Fortran file you must write all of the subroutines. For example you can write the DLOAD and after its ending you can write the DFULX. This is correct and no problem happens.

    Hi. Can you please tell me the difference between DFLUX & DSFLUX subroutines in Abaqus? When should I use each of them.

  • @FemexIran

    Hi. Dsflux is not a subroutine. It is a command line in the inp file. We also call them keywords in abaqus. About dflux, we have both of the dflux subroutine and dflux keyword. Dflux keyword is different from dflux subroutine. If you want to write a distributed heat flux as a function of time and position, you must use the dflux subroutine as i have explained it in our tutorial. Abaqus generates the needed keywords when running the cae model so there is no need to study about dflux or dsflux keywords. I am modeling laser ablation, and when the elements are deleted , I need to change the surface for surface heat flux (i.e. when elements are deleted I need to apply surface heat flux on the deeper layer) ? Could it be done?

  • @FemexIran

    @FemexIran

    Hi. Yes it can be done but I don't know how to do it. It needs some complex type of coding. Using the DFLUX subroutine individually is not enough.
