Spider, I just became a Distributor for Khukuri House this year. I am in Texas. If you ever need one, I can get them at a bit lower cost. I just sold my last Defender yesterday and have more coming in. Christmas hit me pretty hard with sales. These knives are solidly built and I am proud to represent them. I have pictures of them in Nepal making these. regards, Frank

Thanks for the kind comments. :-) Yer its always best to use what you know. Years ago I nearly took my leg out with one. I know kneel down if I am swinging an axe so if I miss it hits the ground not me. :-)

This is nice man. I served in afghanistan last year so I'm trying to decide between the Defender and the Operation Enduring Freedom knives. They are both awesome.

For anyone who is put off by the large handle, you can ask KHHI to custom make you a smaller one, or just one with a smaller handle. KHHI makes excellent custom orders, they can do almost whatever you want.

The Defender model is made in Afghanistan. No Kauda (notch on the blade), dead give away. The other model is a Kukri House

I have this blade. I'm 6'6" 260, and this thing is still a little too heavy for practical use. However, I love it.

Great review. I have the 13 inch version with a more sirupate like blade shape. It is a bit thinner at the spine than the usual AEOF type, but it is a very good blade. It can handle anything in the Australian Outback.

Excellent Video. I have bought a KHHI Max xtream which is a bigger version of your American Eagle. Superb knife but heavy at 2lbs. As you say it chops like an axe. Also bought a Service No5 Ultimate and a Chukuri from Kukuri House Thamel. The only thing I would add is that if these are to be used think about getting them unpolished, they scratch less and the original temper is better maintained. Polishing does soften the edge a tad. Also got a show blade from KH Thamel, also fantastic.

I believe the steel is 5160 which is leaf spring steel. High Carbon and chromium content very very good and strong steel. With the right heat treat as good as performer as any.

I've just had my 15inch victor turned up. It's a brutal piece of steel! I'm a little disapointed with the finish though that was easly fixed. Money well spent

There is a reason they have been making kukri haldles without guards for hundreds of years. The angle of the blade makes you hold the handle so your hand is vertical. When you stab your had won't go forward. When you stab its kind of like punching, to get the picture in your mind.

I just bought this blade a couple weeks ago and it is amazing. Ive taken it camping and found that it excells as an axe or a machete, though the weight makes prolonged chopping pretty tiresome. As for the fit and finish you talked about, I did notice that the handle had slight burns and blemishes from the manufacturing process. But that gives the knife character more than anything. Overall ive found its a great outdoor tool and could indeed do some serious asskicking if the situation provided.

No I have not got hold of that one yet. Its on my list to buy. If its anything like the defender it will be a real beast. You need some real muscle to heft some of the big kukris. The big ones will take a head clean off.

I just received my Defender and very happy with it. I'm not happy with the sheath as there isn't much retention. I think I'll be getting a custom kydex sheath for actual carry and saving the traditional sheath for display. I found a pic. on the web of a custom kydex sheath which also had two smaller sheaths attached to the front to which hold the sharpener and the smaller knife that come with it. I may have to post a video if I do so...

One question: is the blade straight? I brought an kukri from Amazon and it had to be returned since it had an off centered blade. A non-centered blade since it could cause a miss-strike. Also, that is a very difficult fix unless one had the resources to forge that out. 😊 Thanks

I have held one of these and the sheer weight of it makes it pretty useless for practical use, also the balance is non existant. Tora blades offer far far superior kukri`s to Kukri House, the difference between a real kukri a typical Nepalese would use and a tourist/export Kukri House offering is shocking, weight, balance, everything.
