Thank you for covering these topics. These are very important for us who want to make "backups" of purchased streaming movies. I go on the road alot and wifi connectivity not available.

I notice it's only recording in hd and not 4k indicated by flashing green on the top

This may be my first post since my subscribing awhile back, but wanted to say that I wholeheartedly agree that there are times (other than Piracy) when being able to have recorded snippits (or whatever) would be very beneficial in a number of genre's including as you pointed out the educational side. BTW, did you know that in an emergency, you can (semi) clean an old VTR head (like what you have in your intro) with the side of a Match-Book? (Caveat: this was like back in the 70's on one inch reel machines). Wishing you much more fun and success with Thrifty A/V!

I messed with some one inch reel machines at my first couple of TV jobs, but I worked in production, not engineering. If I saw symptoms of a dirty head, I would call in an engineer to clean it. They typically used "Kleen" pads.

I believe that I should be to take my purchashed DVD's and be able to save them on my NAS drive so I can stream them through something like Kodi, etc. 'within my home'. While companies like Sony offer a digital copy using something like Ultraviloet (or what ever it's called), I don't want to be reliant to a company that may or may not shut down or having to use the internet to verify the ability to use the digital copy. Plus not all movies come with a digital version. Not to mention the movies that you 'purchase' from say a cable provider or streaming service ... what happens to those after you switch cable companies or decide to stop using that streaming service ... I'm going to guess that you lose access to the movies you 'purchased' and I'm going to guess that they're not going to send you a physical copy of the movie (or movies). So you 'purchase' it only to lose it if you stop the service it came from.... especially when some of them are $20+. So yes, I believe that you should be able to make a digital copy of the purchased physical media as well as a digital copy of the purchased streaming movies for personal use... after all you did purchase them.

Thinking about buying the cloner alliance uhd and now after watching your videos i think i am going to! TY. As of today have you heard of them patching that workaround?

What is the device with the screen that you have hooked up to the cloner box? Thanks for the video.

Thanks, ThriftyAV, for this and all your other informative videos. Could I use the ClonerAlliance UHD Pro HDMI 4K with my cable company's DVR to make archival copies of programs I saved on the DVR? I understand that the DVR's files are encrypted. Would the method you use here work with the DVR when the HDCP error message comes up?

Yes, but some cable companies do not encrypt the DVR output, so you may not need the workaround.

Can it record off of Cable TV, like HBO, or PPV. I am thinking of using this like a DVR.

After I record a video what's the easiest way to edit start and the endings. For example I started recording too soon and I want to edit that out. or I let the ending run to long. Thanks.

is there a work around for ClonerAlliance ViewPro ?

I just want my ROKU streamer to work. I can't get rid of the HDCP Error Detected. Error 020 message. I am getting sound but no picture. I am not trying to record anything just watch broadcast TV and what else is offered using my Roku Stick. ] Thank You for your time and efforts.

Since this video was recorded 2 years ago, does anyone know if a newly purchased version of this product will still allow the recording of HDCP protected content? I would like to create educational "fair-use" videos of film production techniques using content I already own. Thanks!

i have the ElgatoHD Capture Card , price wise its gonna cost $150 retail price , but dude its the absolute best capture card they manufacuater i have had mine for probly 4 or 5 years now and i have had zero to very very very little problems with my elgato capture card hd , i connected my elgato hd capture card to my roku and pc and was able to record my roku 4k stick guns blazing no problems , problem is i hate to pirate shows such as simpsons or family guy , but these companies these days dont provide us with other alternative except to break de law. i hope i was able to help you

If you capture a video, can you burn it onto a blu-ray afterwards? What software would allow this? Thanks

dude if you dont mind or it doesnt bother you to burn to a dvd there is a free software i use called DVD styler 100% compatible with windows movie maker , i use it all the time , however i would recommend that you search youtube and decide for yourself which software best accomadates your needs and desires. personally i love to burn to dvds instead little more easier imo

Do you have any information on their cheper version, HDML-Cloner Box Pro, Capture 1080p?

Can you get past the error message through the remote?

it is no longer available, not on amazon or ebay, all gone.

It appears that even though you were able to get past the HDCP issue, you were still only capturing at 1920x1080p60.

@@GNS1417A Yep. I've bought quite a few but only some work. One problem i'm still experiencing is that i'm able to record from my firestick but the audio/video goes out of sync. Any suggestions on how to cure this.
