Default VLAN and Native VLAN
default VLAN:
We cannot change the default VLAN. We cannot even delete the default VLAN. It is the default setting. It is VLAN 1.
The default VLAN is only relevant to an access port
VLAN 1 is never intended to be used as a standard VLAN to carry network data.
Native VLAN:
The Native VLAN is simply the one VLAN which traverses a Trunk port without a VLAN tag.
The default Native VLAN is VLAN 1, but it is recommended to configure the native VLAN to different numbers other than 1.
Native VLAN is configurable on the Trunk point, not on any access port.
The native VLAN should be the same on both ends of the trunk. If both sides of the trunk do not agree on the Native VLAN, the trunk will not operate properly.

I've learned more from Sunny about VLANs than anywhere else.
I really appreciate your teachings. You explain complex topics so simply for everyone to understand. Thank you Sunny
So basically Native VLAN traffic does not need a tag to travel, that makes it so useful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Sunny! Your explanations are detailed, simply, and easy to understand! Many thanks!
Short.Precise. To the point. Well explained 👍🏻
Awesome work mate. I really appreciate your take on the topic and the visualizations illustrate everything perfectly. Thank you!
Enjoy watching your videos which explain things clearly within 10 minutes. Like the way you speak - not too fast, word by word, very clear. Also, like your closed captions. Please keep up the great work!

Exactly the information I was looking for because we have computers connected to VoIP phones but we want to keep VoIP traffic separated on its own VLAN. Thank you.
Great explanation, Sunny! Thank you so much.

It's nice simple explanation. Love and respect from Anand Bharat.
good scenario, thanks Sunny
Thanks for a clear explanation on Native Vlan. I have a suggestion: the telephone exemple is a great way to explain the native vlan usefulness. I suggest you add another pair of PC/computer to shwo that you can assign a different vlan on each trunk port. Thank you. It took me a while to be familiar with the concept. you helped me a lot.
Sunny i appreciate your teaching ways and more so the way u explain these things may Allah increase u in knowledge

Thank you so much. I've finished the Cisco networking academy classes but never fully understood the purpose of a native vlan and why it even exists.

Outstanding! I really appreacte your efforts, time and explanation which are great and easy to understand but i would like to request you that if you write/put the steps (how to create vlans, switch port, trunk, voice vlan and data vlan and etc, below the description of this videos and other videos and if you have free time then make it would be more than great, so i am waiting for your response as soon as you can. Thanks alot
I wish I got the chance of attending your physical class. But all the same thank u so much!

When the right person explain the big confusing thing at many people should be easy thing at the end
i am getting ready to take my CCNA exam, and literally still didn't get the difference in between native and default vlan, especially when native in default is VLAN1. So this video definitely helped.

Hi Sunny in your last example of the VOIP application, what will happen if VLAN 30 (data vlan) is used rather VLAN 10 (native vlan)? Can PC A still communicate to PC B?
Thanks.....

Hi Sunny, Greetings! what will happen technically if the native vlan mismatches between the two trunk links?I mean does the tunk links behave something different ?because though the native vlan mismatches, the tagged vlan frames will pass through the trunk ports then what is the issue with the native vlan mismatch.Could you please take a look on this and clarify the doubt.

Question, from the last example about using the naive VLAN, what would happen if Computer that connects to up phone also has VLAN tag?
@sunnyclassroom24
4 жыл бұрын
Great question! We might need a router to direct the traffic so that the data traffic is delivered through the phone. In that situation, the phone functions as a switch for the computer. There might be some configurations.

@@sunnyclassroom24 Realizing this is two years old, but why would a computer have a VLAN tag? Computers send and receive untagged frames, the tags are assigned and removed at either end of the trunk, correct?
Sir, plz make a video on differences between subnet and vlan
👌
if two sides of trunk port have an "acsess mode", does it work? (or they only work with "trunk ")
@sunnyclassroom24
4 жыл бұрын
trunk ports are two ends of a trunk. The access mode is for an access port.
@Sunny Classroom, can I ask you about best practises for more than two native VLANS? I need to do upgrade my distribute switches from L2 to L3. To do this I will need to create new networks admin subnets for all access and distribute switches. During above procedure we will have transition period (several months) where I will need to have (on my core switch L3) several VLANS configured as a native on uplinks to distribute switches. What about such setup and what should I remember or pay attention on?
Sunny, can you give us your opinion on where the industry is heading and if Network Engineers will be obsolete
hey can 1 vlan switch can connect in 5 unmanaged switches ? or vice versa
Im using a cisco switch 2960 and when I configure the native vlan I can see it with the show int trunk command, but I never created that vlan so I do not see it in the show vlan brief, why? does switchport trunk native vlan not create the vlan? or it is not required to create it manually?
Hello Sunny Do have to include or allowed vlan natif on trunk link for example : vlan native 100 vlan 10 and vlan 20 switchport trunk encap.. switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,20 switch mode trunk i have to allowed vlan 100 (switch trunk allowed vlan 100,10,20) or not and why.
