I sold mine already, now I got chevrolet express cutaway enclosed with tools box,,be careful with Mercedes-Benz sprinter, I talked with others guys local and they told me same problems

We have a 2012 Winnebago RV on a 2011 Sprinter chassis. There have been continued mechanical problems that have been very costly. However, we love the floorplan of the motorhome and have done significant improvements. Unfortunately, now we have the same DEF/engine light problem that you have described. It is our first time but we are wary of what our total costs could be. We will be fortunate if not thousands of dollars. Guess it may be time to get rid of our beloved motorhome.

It is a shame that MB gets away with this and even worse that a dealer knows what the fix is and rip you off knowing it is still not fixed. Most of the time it is the heater unit that heats up de the DEF blue... Dealer cost between 800 and 1500 online for 300 or less I feel your pain brother, hard working guys like you are getting ripped.

No problem, is why I made this video, to let people know how this vans diesel system is not worth it, I will never get this vans again, I spent $12,000.00 in repairs and never got fixed,

Today July 9, 2021 I took my 2010 Mercedes Benz Sprinter to the Mercedes Benz Dealer for DEF problems and they told me that it has RECALL and they will fix it for free, they will replace the SCR of the DEF, they will change 2 knock sensors and the ECM because they have RECALL of those 3 things. So friends I recommend you take your sprinter to the dealer for those recalls even if they don't have DEF problems yet.

I'm agreed with you 100% They are butcher money stealer same happened with me to fix cheak light and little nose of the front . I never went to dealers because of charges I went to in New York four different very famous and expensive machines I spent almost $ 2600/- plus I lost lot of time and bussines now problem is still there I'm so disappointed of then running truck with same problem.

Same issue with my Mercedes Sprinter. So sick of the damn thing. I live in Australia where it can take hours just to drive anywhere, so I seriously don't know why they bother selling their unreliable vans here. I once broke down out in the middle of nowhere in NSW and the van totally crapped out leaving me stranded. Went through the drama of walking into the next town (no phone signal) which took the whole afternoon and overnight. When I finally got the van fixed, it turned out to be just a sensor in the engine somewhere. This same issue happened with another sensor another time, causing the whole van to crap out and not drive. When the dealership told me, I couldn't believe my ears and I couldn't believe what I was paying for. I asked them why the hell would they even have these shitty sensors if they cause more drama than the actual engine itself and they said they value their added features because they protect the vehicle and their customers. Not exactly useful if its put your life in danger like it did with me. Totally inappropriate and dangerous product. Its definitely a scam. I will never own another Mercedes Product again in my life.

Sorry for your loss. Hopefully, you could join a class action lawsuit. The best thing you could do, Is just get rid of the whole DEF System. But that will only work in stats, where they don't require an Emissions test to register vehicles.

I agree with these comments, I bought a new Sprinter 316 here in the UK , It has done just 10,500 miles and had the same issues with the AdBlu system which only started after the dealer updated the diesel engine software. long story short I argued that they should have replaced both NOX sensors at the time they carried out the update which incidentally I did not know they had done,there was no communication between dealer and customer. Whilst I waited for the NOX sensors to become available I'm pretty sure they were deleted from the engine software, my particular AdBlu problems were as a result of faulty NOX sensors and the fault no longer existed whilst waiting for the sensors. No problems at all whilst waiting for the sensors and then approximately 100 miles after the sensors were replaced at the dealership the AdBlu message appeared again, my own techy with dealer Mercedes diagnostic computer did an AdBlu activation test which had previously been 100% good but now showed 0% pressure and an open circuit On further inspection I discovered the pump connection underneath had been disconnected slightly causing the (Open circuit) Surley they wouldn't have disconnected it at the dealer would they???? Well I have my own views on that, these connectors don't just come undone and having done extensive checks previously I know this connector was secure.

I am very sorry for your experience I had a 2007 and I had to sell it as soon as possible I did my research and discovered that the best Mercedes-Benz are from 98 to 2006 does not have any problem with the DEF I work for a company and all the trucks are from 2004 and to date they have more than 800,000 miles and continues to work with them of course always giving it routine maintenance and the Mercedes-Benz vans 2007 to 2020 are crap apart from what Mercedes-Benz service is too expensive for the benefit of all consumers taking out many thousands of dollars I understand your frustration, thank you for sharing I stay with my 2004 sprinter has 60000 thousand miles and it doesn't hurt at all

$300 on ebay, a guy out of Canada sends a chip to restart the DEF thing so you don't have to go to dealership. Had another chip to remove the DEF. I was scared to. 😱 sorry about your troubles

I feel your pain I have Mercedes splinter nothing but problems never buy again

Just bought mine a week ago, having same problem. DEF fluid was topped off, but the sensor didn't recognize it and left me stranded. After watching a dozen videos, Sounds like MANY many people have the same problem.

Where/who did you buy that Blue OBD Plug from? Can you share it? How much? There appears to have TWO different Blue OBDs on the market.

Same here - changed NOX sensors THREE times, AdBlu heater once, then … the dreaded Limit Start appeared , even AdBlu is full !!! It’s really a bad bad bad emission cooling system!!!

To all interested in buying a Mercedes Sprinter of any year or model. Get a good Diagnostic tool. To know what and where the problems. Then have the dealer run a full diagnostic report and printout. This should pin point the exact area and problem. You then have some knowledge of the problem. At the dealers ask to be informed of every step of the procedure it takes to fix the problem. And what parts they will or could need to change. If they change any part ask to see it and keep it for later inspection. Also ask for a ball park figure of the costs. Do not make it easy for the main dealers to rip you off. I personally look for a small business with a good knowledgeable technician who will talk and work with you on fixing your van. I do have a sprinter an old one and the new ones are far more complicated but the above rules are the same. Good luck

You said any year but aren’t the 2000 to 2007 ok because they don’t have any of the DEF and DLP stuff?

What an incredibly bad Van, the spending of tens of thousands andand the problem is still not fixed. Your video helped me decide to NEVER buy a mercedes van. Your story is so similar to many others, and yet they still sell a lot of vans. There are many larger cars, like people movers that are significantly more reliable than both the ford transit and the mercedes sprinter vans. Good luck in the future and thanks for sharing your painful story.

Hi Peter thanks for your comments, unfortunately is true what I say,I just sold my Van on Saturday for $5,600.00 dls. that was the maximum offer, I was keeping for 4 months, Mercedes-Benz sprinter its not worth, they are good just until maybe 70k or 80k miles,then sell it,the dealer just warranty you under 100k miles, that is they told me,because they know the problem, I showed you my receipts how much I spent for nothing

surely thank you for sharing. i am in the middle of this issue right now (def light indicator). I am down from 16 to 7 starts. I will try to take it to the dealer and if they cannot guarantee to fix the issue (may be i need to get sign off) i will not going to pay them. Any advice should i do?

Look in the mail you should be receiving lawsuit papers for that problem.

The light on my sprinter just came on as well, The code said it was the mass air flow censor. I deleted the check engine light, changed air, and fuel filter, it came back on 4 days later, I’ve been driving it with the check in engine light on for about 2 weeks now. We’ll see how far it goes.

Also, the issue with the dpf system is that it’s very sensitive, you can’t let the reservoir run low, or it will ruin the system. I always top off every 3k miles.

@kyle brookins Hey Kyle, it’s been 3 months now, check engine light is still on. But the van seems to be running strong. Despite the check engine light, it’s been a true work horse! I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

I have the same problem and the dealer sucks, I will try one thing what probably fix this problems I will let you know how it works in my van, I have the same problem the problem is the def fluid get crystallized and then damage all parts inside the fluid doesn't sell in this country I'm waiting for my friend bring me next week and I will check because now the van is in IDle that's mean after 10 crank the van will be move at 20mph let you know.

Car dealer service centers are like bank robbers. I fix all issues with my Diesel myself and I bought advance OBDIi scanner which cost about $600 dollars. I feel bad you had to pay all those crazy repair bills.

Buddy had the same problems, solution delete the def and you will never have a problem again. Removed it for 600$ in Canada and never had a problem again.

I have a 2016 313 ex DHL van....engine light on twice now....no what it is.....its in limp home mode....absolute piece of junk....DHL service history with it but things like the brakes which have never been touched....fuel filter never replaced in 128k miles...air filter pollen filter never replaced....please please be aware of these vans if you are thinking one of these..I have owned this for around 4 months and I regret it my T5 never missed a beat in 6 years of ownership

I sold it already, but someone told me that there is already a process Mercedes-Benz is going to give $3500.00 to all blue tech trucks Mercedes-Benz, so they know the mistake, that guy sent me the link to register the truck, so he said doesn't matter if I don't have anymore

In CO when you take car/truck any vehicle in for repair, the have to provide a written estimate and you have to agree, or you walk. Sorry to hear you have had so many problems. Where is the guarantee from the repair? Cintact yiur Attorney's General office consumer affairs. Please

it seems the sprinter diesels have problems. Mine is doing the def light again and check engine on oa 38 000 miles first time it fid it a 27000 miles . now again. first time dealer rest computer. now again. st this miles its trash to have so many issues.

Man I have 2011 Freightliner it shuts down on the highway only 92.000 miles and it is a nightmare I can’t get it fix mechanic try everything up to now it won’t start most of all I love the van I bought it at 83.000 miles and this is what happen I am so piss off now I love the truck

Thanks I did a letter before to the CEO of Mercedes-Benz, and y hey called me, just they offered me free diagnostic, I said not I just need repair right or give me my money back,but never I heard anything, so I don't want to spend anymore money in lawyer, I sold the van already, thank you very much

there should be. I have 2 sprinters. they both have the same issues. i cant drive any of them. can t even get a rental truck

You need to get with a lemon attorney, the DEF is a problem even with semis of all brands, you have to buy Blue DEF if you get bulk is going to keep happening

@@elzorrito3518 Pues aunque ya vendiste aún tienes derecho a una compensación más baja. No sé cómo podríamos comunicarnos para darte los detalles. Es que hubo una demanda global "Class Action" le llaman y las camionetas Bluetec están envueltas. Ya hoy lleve una de las mías para que le modifiquen el sistema EMS y lo garantizan por 4 anos. Además al dueño presente lo compensan con bastante dinero. A los dueños anteriores la cantidad es más reducida.

@@elzorrito3518 we all learning, I was thinking about electric sprinter but it’s only going for 100 miles range, can they make at least 600 miles range, here in Minnesota it’s cold, battery will lose some juice, or maybe they will get better with def system with less problems every year

You need to know how to beat the system the engine is a real god engine but they have to ad all that crap to met us emissions $800.00 on a ecm tuning/straight pipe and a muffler will make that van run for another 5k

One month ago my friend had same problem

I think ur better off getting gas ⛽️ sprinter van, instead diesel I know they have problems with def system

Sprinter is the worst car don't buy
