Hundreds of millions of cardboard boxes, plastic jugs, toxic chemicals, additional mining for rare metals and additional hardware under your truck, poor fuel economy, and expensive repairs if your toxic chemical has expired. Wheww. this is so much better. Thank you government.

We've come a long way with internal combustion engine emissions, but I think we're at the end of the road. Today we're only robbing Peter to pay Paul. We can reduce tailpipe emissions and have a clean running engine but at the expense of mining and its environmental impact, millions (if not billions) of pounds of single use plastics (and the environmental impact to produce them), as well as burning more fuel; which causes increased dependence on foreign oil, and the environmental impacts of drilling for and refining crude. Emissions reduction was never about saving the environment, it's only a political game.

Also for it do a automatic Reg u need highway with city driving. Only short haul the truck would never get its self clean out. No power.. That's why semis have Manuel reg button. Your can do a parked reg. U press it and engine would rev up. . Smoke would pour out Then after 15 minutes truck would idle down.

DEF interacts with the the Selective Catalyst Reduction chamber which is down stream in the exhaust system, DEF does not go into the engine. If not for a stupid sensor in the SCR it would not know what or even if you had DEF. One thing that needs to be done is a drain plug should be on all DEF tanks so the owner can drain the DEF if it reaches a certain age so they can add fresh DEF. Most problems with the DEF system are because the DEF just became stale and that is the start of your problems in the DEF system. As for the API I personally think they create more problems than they solve with their stupid standards. The entire synthetic oil fiasco could have been stopped if only the API had stepped up and said sorry Castrol but Group III Conventional oil is not synthetic just because you hydro cracked it which only removes some more of the impurities in the oil. The molecules are not changed or created like a true Group IV PAO synthetic or Group V Ester synthetic. It was the Better Business Bureau's National Advertising Division (NAD) that made the decision that Group III Conventional oil could be labeled as full synthetic oil and sadly the API stupidly went along with that dumb decision making consumers the losers in that stupid decision.

Awesome! Thank you! Could we perhaps have an interview on diesel fuel standards? Cetane numbers, lubricity, sulphur content, and last but not at all least biodiesels, both FAME and HVO and how they affect the quality of the fuel, with moisture and sediment. In Europe we have B10 ES 590 diesel, meaning 10% by volume FAME based biodiesel in otherwise mineral diesel. There are subtleties about storage and sedimentation, and there is a lot of bro science and mythology around this. Likewise with diesel fuel additives. It would be great to have his view on this. I have a story and a question. I used to have a 92 Caprice. Once it failed to pass an exhaust inspection. I looked up on the net, ways to help this. I saw several tips on KZread and elsewhere, to slowly add Seafoam, to a vacuum hose. 6 ounces, while running. Then turn off for 15 minutes. Reattach vacuum hose. Turn on car, let idle, rev engine multiple tiles, until all dried particles, carbon, etc , are spit out of exhaust. Yes, that works instantly! I returned next day to inspection station, and car passed. Or u can add a whole can to gas tank, half a tank of gas or less, let it run until nearly empty. This has the same effect. My question is related. I have a new company truck. Diesel. I get a.. engine will Derate in x minutes...every day. Since Derate and Regen has to do with same issue-exhaust particulate and the cat converter, couldn't I expect the same results, adding Seafoam,to my diesel? On a side note; because I'm one of those people who has to know how and why things work, I called Seafoam about 15 years ago to ask this question. I actually talked to the inventor and chief engineer of the product 😮😮 he told me it's 3 main molecular components, and how and how and why it works. Put shortly, it completely dries up , shrinks up, crusts up, all solid matter and clinging particulate, from ur injectors spark plugs piston heads cylinder walls, all the way out past ur cat converter. Like a chunky dried up riverbed in Africa in summer! Then is easily blown out, by normal exhaust usage. So wouldn't this also work on a diesel that uses Def? Thanks for anyone's answer.

I enjoyed the video, but I’d like to correct a couple things. 1 DEF never goes in your engine. You cannot screw up your engine. DEF or bad def or no def goes in the after treatment system. It can be very expensive to repair but it is not in the engine. Second, most commercial trucks do not buy bottled DEF we buy our DEF at truckstops with the bulk tanks. you want to go to a big truckstop that uses a lot so it rotates. Modern diesel engines that have been deleted run better have more power and get better fuel economy than emission engines. They are just illegal.

Most people fail to understand that emissions controls have brought us more powerful and economical engines. In my house, our pickups are diesel. My wife's truck is a 2018 Ram 2500 Crewcab 4wd 6.7L. The engine is rated at 370hp and 800 lb/ft torque. 26mpg @ 55mph. And is rated to tow 17,200lbs. The mechanical 5.9L of the first Dodge D250 pickups. Got 14mpg @ 55mpg. Were rated at about 160hp 400lb/ft torque. And was rated to tow about 8,000lbs. And made a lot more noise! A gas D250 pickup got 9mpg. Starting in 1974. The DOE, EPA, engine manufacturers, and the major oil companies did testing on water injection to the intake system for pollution reduction. A benefit was actually MORE power and BETTER fuel economy economy under most conditions. But the best improvement was with the electronically controlled common rail injection systems. We got stuck with after treatment and DEF as a polluction reduction system. Because people just don't keep fluid levels correct. With DEF, if the fluid runs out, or is not the specfied fluid. A warning light comes on. You got 50 miles to get to dealer for service. Or the computer will shutdown the engine! The study had also tested various alternate fuels and formulations. Some formulations reduced emmisions. With similar or better fuel economy. To me, DEF is messy! Requires keeping the injector cleaned. And works best with the tank kept at least half full. If you run the tank low. The injector must be cleaned more often. To clear the crystals that build up.

It is my daily driver vehicle and frequently pull our rv as we are living full-time on the road since January 2018 and present. I always fill with def to the max and when it gets to half mark, then fill it up again to the top to circulate and mix old with new def. Once and I while, I run it close to empty, then fill it back up until full. O, and I do my best to use busy truck stops to fill for def and diesel fuel. For the past 5 years and now at 113,000 miles and with just basic maintenance(I do it myself on my own garage or in the middle of the desert when camping), no major issues and truck runs like very close to, when it was new.

  • @tjztyger

DEF has nothing to do with the oil. That's the fault of the DPF crap. Your KW'S engines are probably designed to inject diesel during the exhaust stroke to fuel the regen in the DPF. Some of the excess fuel gets past the rings & dilutes the oil. If you wait long enough between oil changes, you'll probably notice the "oil level" rise when you check the level during fuel stops. That's the excess fuel combining with the oil in the crankcase. Great system, huh? Use excessive amounts of fuel and oil to save the planet. Go, team green, go!

Just bought my first Diesel over the weekend, 2022 Chevy 1500 with the 3.0L duramax. The DEF gage was showing around 3/4 full. Do you guys let the DEF deplete to almost empty before adding new? What is the best DEF to buy for these small Duramax engines?

Do NOT allow the DEF tank to go below half. DEF can crystalize and cause real headaches. In fact you want to inspect for any crystallization and see why it is happening. Clean with distilled water. DEF is a specific formula, so it is either manufactured correctly or it isn't.

@@kmg501 thank you buddy! I had some sensor go bad a few weeks ago, still under warranty and i think it had something to do with emissions, im wondering if it had something to do with the DEF, the service engine light had came on.
