    Planted my buckwheat yesterday. Been working on my plots for the last month every weekend. Can’t wait to get back into them end of July. I look forward to the new videos every few days. Thanks Jeff.

    Watching this as I sip a cold beer while taking a break broadcasting buckwheat in my plot. You're spot on about the shade. My plot is in the woods. The southern edge gets a lot of morning shade. CLEARLY doesn't do as well as the mid to northern end.

    Here in NJ we can bait 24/7. I did use a grass logging road mix that my Forrester recommended. I did however put some clover in there so I have clover on some of my logging roads but they still all go to my deer feeders so really hasn’t changed for me putting some clover on my logging roads. Every property is different love the info that you give great channel.

    I can probably guess who you’re talking about, and his and Jeff’s methods are very very similar, they just focus on different things in their video. You can’t plant anything Jeff’s talking about without the soil being correct. Both talk about soil building with buckwheat/cover crops, one just goes more into WHY buckwheat is good for the soil. Both talk about the negatives of disc’ing. Both talk about terminating with glyphosate. Both give a schedule when to plant what, and when to crush the buckwheat. Etc. Take what you can use from both guys.

    Thanks for all your videos, Jeff. I planted a 100 foot connector trail last weekend with Northwoods Seclusion. Connects two food plots each with different offerings. I have stands at both ends and would never have to touch the trail to access either. Hope it works out.

    I came back to this video because I am considering planting a long strip of a logging trail (parallel to my boundary) that would connect two strong lines of movement including more of a destination plot on my 68 acres. I do not use this trail for accessing stands. What are your thoughts on using the trail for deer recover via ATV? After hours/dark, engine running, etc. As always thanks for the awesome content.

    So Jeff when are yoyu planting your buckwheat into youe rye? Im thinking this coming week/weekend also at 50lbs/acre has it ever been too thick that your fall food plot growth could not push through the thatch?

    What steps do you take when initially planting buckwheat? Would cultipacking be beneficial? Should I just broadcast it and leave it? Do I need to spray glyphosate after seeding?

    Jeff, do you know if real young switch grass is a pale green. I burned some switch, and a real pale green grass is coming in. I was going to spray it and replant it, but decided to give it a chance and let it grow to see what it is.

    Hey I have a question I hunt in virginia on about 30 acres and there's a old pipe line under ground that's open but the only thing I see grown on there is briar bushes would it be good to kill off the briars and put some king of food plot there there is a running river that fallows the pipe like maybe40 yards from that particular spot

    What would you recommend for non-food plantings on logging trails. I am only looking to avoid erosion and reduce sloppy muddy messes. I am also trying to increase accessibility as now if we get rain I can not drive as it is too slick for a 4wd pick-up

    If you don't access or parts of logging trails without ag land for 1/2 mile without taking much trees down, as deer are concentrated selectors- utilizing the trails planting highly digestible forage is a big Yes for myself especially hunting deer around perimeter that exits inside out!

  • @dcranch4820
    @dcranch4820 Жыл бұрын

    Planting logging roads is mostly done to prevent erosion in my county. Actually its often required if your in a forestry program. Im in buffalo county and many properties are very steep. Another point that is that there is so much natural food in the woods that deer often prefer over food plots. So planting your trails and logging roads has very little impact on your hunting success.

    Sure, it takes no money at all to do your #1 improvement....and that is, do NOT let the deer on your property know they are being hunted. All the habitat improvement $$$$ in the world won't help you much if you don't do that, and, for the most part, that's free!!!
