Спорт
Deer Hunting Season Pa 2014. Follow John Royer as he films Ron during the next to last day of the Pennsylvania Rifle Deer Hunting season in Clarion county Pa. John starts off with a deer drive then a spot and stalk hunt for a doe. The guys see deer seconds into the hunt. John sees a spike and a 10 point buck that he passe up earlier in the season. Finally a doe steps out and Ron takes a shot. The guys spot the doe again and Ron makes a great Head Shot on the doe and kills it. The guys celebrate a successful season.

This is a classic! Remember my very first time watching this video the day it came out. Very successful hunt! Congrats Ron! 7 years later lol.
Can’t get enough of your videos! It’s not like watching those commercialized hunting videos. Great job!
This video proves once again that deer are amazing durable tough creatures.
Hi John, Great videos! I'm from Ontario Canada and I have to say we haven't seen deer in the numbers you are showing in your vids since the late 90's. Great work, really enjoy watching!

I know your buddy rob truitt hes told me alot of stories over the years and now to watch your videos is pretty cool man love to come hunt with ya oneday!!!
Felt like this is one of the best videos it showed tracking and basically a real life hunt not one of those rigged TV shows. You even showed how to make sure you safely hunt. Great video and hunt.
Congrats on the doe and I've always used my lead tip to fill my tags but not since I switched to ballistic tips.....makes me wanna go back to the old lead head haha..great video!
Well done! I hunt in pa as well, glad to see someone else who puts some real effort into hunting and not shooting them off food plots ;)
Loved this video, totally awesome as it happened.
Watched this again to get fired up about 2022. I've been working out the flinches with the air rifle. A cheap and effective way to practice.
much respect to you fellas for hunting to get meat, not trophy horns.

yep i hate when people do it for horns. they think it makes them more of a man. hunting for meat is fine though i love it.

+trapper conway i'm gonna say that there was way too much brush in the way of that shot and just one twig the size of a pencil will deform a high speed bullet and deflect it at a random angle. In movies people shoot through window glass or thread a needle though a chain link fence like it wasn't there. In real life a soft point bullet gets deformed by a twig and changes direction.

Love ur videos 👍🏼
John I love your video's but I have a question for Ron and his "Grim Reaper". I have been deer hunting for the last 20 years in Anticosti Island, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Virginia & PA and I have never seen "See Through" mounts on a rifle that has NO front or rear sights. What's the point? Just curious, TZ
Man I kinda miss PA hunting. But nothing beats west for hunting.
Nice hunt man I got 2 does this year and passed a nice 8 point and in opening day of rifle I missed a small but tall 8 point. Btw I hunt and live in ky
Congratulations and nice hunting!
what were the specs on that hand load. or is it a secret :)
Crazy how that deer ran that far with a 30-06. Same caliber i use and rarely do they run very far at all. He made a good shot too. Sometimes deer are unpredictable i guess!
Wait two more years, that 10 point will be a wall hanger! I have been doing the same thing for the past 5 years, letting younger deer go. It actually helps them grow and mature into massive bucks! My dad killed an 8 point this past year and it was 138 gross score! We have seen bigger deer too! So you guys are doing what's right by letting the young deer go. It'll pay off in the long run!
Nice videos 👌 👍....I most likely would have waited for the buck ....bucks always follow the does ....but I've done the same thing before I get so excited.....
Well done Ron....nice shootin! Another great filmin job John...Thank You!! Where's all your snow???

I'm watching this again because Ron was hunting in December. Today, here at the house, it was 96 degrees. I'm ready for cooler weather!
Ron's lead tip as a pencil thing was taught by my Dad to me. Yeah, there's a lot of tricks to the trade. I was born and raised in Virginia. Mountain people know a thing or two!

I never honestly heard of that trick but that's Awesome!
Just letting you know my Dad passed away last October 2021 the end of October PA early Archery season rut season he fell out of a Tree , Ladder Stand 20 , 24 feet & we live an hour & some odd mnt drive from ur area Clarion Pa,,, my Dad reloaded for all of his Guns Rifles & Handguns only ammo my Dad bought was 22lr shells & Flintlock Muzzleloader lead round balls & Ron thinks he's the only Deer hunter that ever reloads or uses a 30-06 that's all my Dad used every year during PA Deer Rifle season or he used a Ruger 41 mag Handgun in Pa Deer Rifle season & my Dad always went out late season PA Flintlock Muzzleloader season after Christmas with his 50 cal Great Plains Lyman Muzzleloader

Great video
I really like this video because it was a legit hunt. You had to GO find the deer and when you didnt drop it in one shot, you took it out of its misery fast. nice hunt
Nice video!
definately dont want to mount the head on that one
Nice shot!
Ok so I want to start getting into hunting (Australia) and I was wondering if archery is a good place to start?

Gun is easier but bow is a lot more fun. If you don't feel confident with a bow check to see if you can use crossbows in your area. I use crossbow and shotgun but nothing beats the excitement of getting deer close enough for bow.
I'm a 10 year old and I can't wait for youth weekend wooh
What grain bullet did he use
I hunt. But I didn't know that about the meat. Thank you for answering my question. Now I know😄

You were able to sneak up on the deer without using Face Blankets! Pretty impressive
I'm appalled that Ron hunts with see-through mounts.
You guys are so cool and so professional. I see all the gun stock cover and scope cover and a lot of gun case, then I see the video, it's unbelievable, your clothes are cool, maybe your gun should have a cool clothes, too.

The cartridge as a pencil is an old trick, but the instructions do say to use a ballpoint pen.
I've been watching your videos for a little over a year now, and i was wondering if you could give any advice on rifle selection. I shot my first deer about 2 years ago now, it was a pretty nice spike buck, anyways i shot it with my 30-30. I was wondering if a .270, .308, or any other rifle might serve me better.
@pauls4460

+secretman920 Congratulations on your first deer! Your 30-30 is more than adequate out to 150 yards or so. If you don't shoot any further than that, I'd recommend staying with that firearm. Use the savings to buy more ammo to practice with. Beware the man with one gun, he knows it well. Best of luck this fall.

Thanks for the advice, and I hope you have a good season too!
I agree with you, some does are pretty tough. My dad hit a doe once and she got back up. Then I walked up on her and she Jumped. Then dad hit her on the Run with a shotgun slug in the neck and she ran another 100 yards and the blood trail was 2 foot wide. Now I hunt in Iowa our Shotgun Season just started last week and First season is buck only for certain county's and we so happen to be in one of those county's lol.Seeing 4 good bucks all wall hangers but they aren't giving us good shots. anyway this happened a couple years ago
yall ready for PA 2016 archery Saturday +LeatherwoodOutdoors
nice buck and a dow.
last deer season I was walking on a road (not a public road it was on my neighbors property)about 7:30 in the morning and jumped a huge 12 point buck... never saw him again😠
Hey John I know this is a old video but if you see this comment. That buck that was with Ron’s doe do you think that could be the buck you shot with the 30-40 Krag?
How many deer are you permitted to shoot in PA?
Shaeffer,smoker,Trevor,toth, haven't seen them where they at? Plus how do you guys know each other? Doesn't seem like you alm live by each other. A cool video would be how you all met. A story how leatherwood got started. Jon I remember you on video at age 12 shooting in that field years ago never knew that was you till years later.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors

Well, Shaffer just got married during the archery season. Toth moved a few hours away so we dont get to see him but only on weekends when he comes home. We all went to the same highschool. Not all in the same grade though. Now with some with us getting engaged, married, having kids, moving, its a bit harder to keep it going like years past. Thought about doing a video on how this all started but wasnt sure if it was time yet to make that video or not.

Nice vidio
dude big big big dow and buck
Y'all should go some where and hunt grizzley bears
With the 30-06 they bleed like crazy and run a little, run 40 yds no blood and die or they just get heaped up
John if the public demands it. You don't have a option. It would be cool to hear stories of young leathers of years back. It could be your off season project. Do it in a series. Part one part 2 kinda thing so it would be easier to do on smaller segments. It would also give you more time to tie other ends. You've come far from boozer playing the the night before archery video! Now he's whipped!
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
9 жыл бұрын
Lol! Well, I just picked boozers footage from rifle season. He will be having two videos. One on the main and one on the second channel. I dont think there is an off season lol. It will come soon.
nice job. I prefer a doe for meat which is mostly why I hunt but a nice buck is majestically wonderful too take as well but a doe is generally healthier but meat is meat. I've used 30-06 for years until I discovered the 25-06 rem and I never looked back using a 100 grain Barnes in 25-06 and they actually drop in there tracks I've had it for 4 years now and every year every deer has drop in there tracks .they would run off with my 30-06 spr. I used 150 gr- 180gr and even some 220 gr.Yeah ! but they would still run 40plus yards and I hunt wma between two hunting clubs and private land and 40 yards was often too far then anyways and the land owners would not let you get your deer so it was important too stop them were they stood but in any case that's a good thing .
Nice video I live in PA and I hunt two. I am 12 and I shot 5 deer. 2 bucks and 3 does I can't wight for Monday OPENING DAY!

No disrespect but can you tell me what is the point of "See Through Mounts" on your 30-06 "Reaper" rifle that has no front or rear sight?
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
5 жыл бұрын
here is his answer.... the objective lens of my scope is too large and it hid the iron sites. I didn't want to use higher rings b/c It would lift my cheek too high off the stock.
I plan to hunt a recurve next bow season my any nice bows out there for 300-350?
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
9 жыл бұрын
well, we recommend starting off with a cheap bow like a samick sage and then work your way up to higher end bows if you like it.
@kip223
9 жыл бұрын
also do you recommend to start with a compound or a recurve to new hunters ive hunted rifle but never bow.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
9 жыл бұрын
kade sawyer Compound with new hunters. A recurve takes 100 times more practice than a compound bow. If you really like bow hunting with a compound then later on you can get into recurve hunting.
That second shot was unnecessary, but it was a nice doe. I shot my first deer the first day that season, no deer through mentor but first day of my junior rifle I nailed a doe. I hunt in conneautville PA

At what point do you shoot a 4 year old 120 class buck? You let all these bucks pass. And not all are going to get bigger than what they are. The one you did a sneak on in archery years past was huge. He was a mature buck. You can tell if a buck has potential. But some of these bucks you pass on aren't really going to get all that much bigger. They are already mature. The bucks you past last year were 3 now 4 years old. They are what they are (most of them)
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
9 жыл бұрын
The second you see him!. But the buck in the video was only a 2 1/2 year old 120 class buck so he gets two more years to add more meat on his bones. All the deer I usually film are 2 1/2 years old and are not even half way to their prime. Out of 14 years of hunting here and passing deer up only one 4 1/2 year old buck has been killed. All the other big ones were 3 1/2 which includes a 160 class buck!. Every thing else was 2 1/2 or younger. So that means they get shot off almost every year before they get to be mature. The one I did a sneak on in an older video was 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 and thats by judging his body shape.

Wildlife Outdoors Well, i do not do it for a job. I dont make that much money doing it to make a living off of it. Its extremely difficult to do and it costs lots of money to start and there is no guarantee that you will make money doing it. I recommend doing it as a hobby and have fun with it. If it makes you alittle side money then its a bonus. I would be doing this no matter if it made money or not. I didnt do this to try and make money at it. I started editing videos for fun and to share memories with friends and family and thats what I suggest any one who want to get into filming hunts that you do it for other reasons than money.
