@@glazewall Indeed. It applies to all animals. It's only a shame that most people don't realize and don't care that cows, pigs, chickens, fish they needlessly kill for food in trillions every year also possess the same traits. I understand that the world is ignorant and you can't save every animal, no matter how many sanctuaries there are, but whenever i see people caring about puppies, kittens etc. while still supporting meat and other industries, it's quite sickening to the stomach.

Who was the last person you knew who walked with *wild deer on a daily basis, just as associates grateful for shared peace&respect? I sometimes don't believe how became so lucky to do so. It feels painfully exclusive. I discovered what I wasn't taught, and what was inaccurate, allowing a new paradigm to guide me other than human constructs and knowledge available. In the last 5 years of 20 walking with wild deer I have learned the most .. upending most of my human teachings to a new understanding..we learn how much we don't know when the truth unfolds before us unfiltered by humanity.. I have found the enlightenment a blessing, yet painful that I can only persuade people to allow themselves opportunity..we all have to see & learn beyond ourselves and beyond each other.. I have been blessed with this level of relaxed interaction with MANY wild animals.. but remember this was a human raised deer, who had a head start by bonding with humans and pets as normal associates.. you are just getting to see "normal interactions" but with different assigned species!😁

My wife and I feed deer, turkey, squirrels, birds, foxes, raccoons and the occasional ducks that come to eat every day. They come right to the edge of our yard on the wood line to eat and they are all very tame. We have been feeding generations of families for years now and they know where to come to eat. We once owned a second home with 96 acres in an extremely rural area of our state. Our closest neighbors lived over 4 miles away. They relayed to us a story of how they befriended a deer, gained her confidence, and allowed her access to their shed. She spent every night there. Then, she suddenly disappeared and they feared the worst...that they had made her too accustomed to people, and vulnerable to being shot for that reason. But, months later, she returned, with a baby. She would actually stay in the shed during hunting season. (I guess the noise of gunfire frightened her). When we sold the house, we lost contact with them, so I wonder how all of this love played out. I am sure that they have both passed away, as they were both senior citizens at the time, and this was decades ago.

I grew up in rural E. WA. (nearest town 14 mi. away). The area is primarily cattle pasture, scrub & dryland wheat farms and was a favorite area for pheasant hunting. We lived on railroad property. My mother took a shine to the pheasants so, come hunting season, Mom looked up what pheasants like to eat, and bought food for her friends. So, instead of feeding next to the creek they were on railroad property getting fat & happy on the food and water my mother set out. Not only is trespassing on railroad property a crime, it is illegal to use firearms there. She'd slowly stop feeding them the week after hunting season and after 2 years they would come back.

I KNOW what it feels like when one animal grooms another. It is that same wonderful feeling I get when someone brushes my hair slowly and gently, or puts make up on me gently, and then afterward smiles at me and says how beautiful I look! It is an affirmation that I am both like and loved.
