Thank u for ur reaction... We can see u like good music... but, U had no knowlidge in rock-n-roll if u didnt listen to this song. It is so stange not to know about this group and their music if u like rock - they are fathers of hard-rock and very creative...u should be listening more to the best musicans, not only just modern musicans to know music well. The most peaces of art in rock-music and so on were created at that times. Therefore there are so many remakes of that music now. This tragic period of remakes in music has begun since 90-s. And I was shocked when I heard that ur brother payed attention ONLY to the drumms. It is intresting for me if it is true that rap-generation can hear only drumms??? What about other instruments???
I’m a 71 yr young woman and my blood runs on 70s rock. Still. Always. I introduced this to my grandson and created a new DP fan. It catches you.
This song is responsible for 3 of my speeding tickets.
Can't believe it's almost 50 years ago that I saw Deep Purple live ..... and they still sound awesome! I think it's because they were stupendously talented musicians ... and that just shines through. Ah, the greats, Deep Purple, Led Zep, Pink Floyd.... we were utterly spoiled in the 70s! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and reactions guys!
It's 1976. I'm working at a clothing shop in a mall in Beaumont, Texas. This big guy strolls in and is looking at our apparel. I approached and offered to assist. I then told him that he looked familiar but couldn't place the face. He told me he was in town with his band to play at our civic center. I asked the name of the band and he told me, the Ian Gillan Band. It was then I realized I was speaking with Ian Gillan himself, the former lead singer for Deep Purple. I was in shock. He had formed his own band after the breakup of Deep Purple.
Officer says... Do you know how fast I have you going on my radar ?? Me... But Officer, I was listening to Highway Star... Officer says.. I understand. Drive safe.
They wrote this on a tour bus to show a journalist how they go about writing songs and made it up on the spot. I believe they played it on the same night at their concert.

Crazy! They are the most improvisational band imo! Thanks !
You forgot to say, this classical stuff in rock n roll was never done before this band.
Deep Purple had their own unique blend of both power and sophistication.

I dig that... definitely
I've been telling the kids today that I still remember when I was a little kid that I saw the teenage youths and their music during the '70s and they were very much wilder than the teens today. Even their parties were very much wilder. When I became a teenager during the mid-80s, me and my friends used to attend to wild parties and we slam-dance the whole night with new wave and punk hardcore music and the party usually ends at 4 AM (very early morning). Whereas today, the parties end very early at 12 midnight. That is about half the length of our parties back then. I think that the kids of the 70s and 80s are luckier than the kids today.
Its funny to realise that I am 64 years old and. i was born with this music, and that music develop my feeling for moore deeper art of music. Now this new generation had to go back again....
Guitar player Blackmore started strumming the same note on an acoustic guitar when a journalist asked how Deep Purple wrote a song. The same, fast note over and over. The journalist couldn't believe his small ears, but the same night, the budding song was played live on stage. We don't know what happened to the journalist, but we do know what happened to Deep Purple.
The story goes that DP were being interviewed and the reporter asked them how they write their songs - Blackmore picked up his guitar and played a random riff, Ian threw in some lyrics about the incredibly fast car he had bought. That night they performed Highway Star for the first time!

Love your reactions guys, especially from two dudes about a third of my age. Your reaction to the music of my late teens and early twenties is great. Just subscribed!
I never missed a Deep Purple Concert when they played my home town in England in the early 1970's - watching Ritchie Blackmore on stage was unbelievable.
Very cool seeing a new generation enjoying all this great DP music. BTW I'm 63 yrs young and saw them in 72 right after Machine Head and numerous other times through the years.
Now you know how we felt as teenagers hearing this for the first time fifty years ago! Some things just transcend time and space! I'll be 63 next month and I still love it. Makes me feel like a teenager again, ha-ha!

@@lauriekittle9459 Ha, ha! Me too! I guess some things, like getting old and being unable to avoid it, will never change! 😉
I actually saw this in concert in 1972 ! Tampa, Florida. Also Smoke On the Water 👏🥰😎 They were PERFECT and on FIRE my brothers 💜
we would never think of stopping this song in the middle, but you are doing a react so we get it....lol
Great band , great song , ive seen them 3 times in concert over the years and this music just doesnt get old , i love it , i need it lol
hell this album made us ROWDY! we had strobe lights on and danced wildly smoking drinking tripping dancing 900 miles an hour guys rowdy and laughing wrestling like crazy -my youth in the late 60;s and 70's i am so fucking lucky u have no idea if y were here i would show u how in done in these parts at rock festivals to this day luv your reactions
Studio versions are crisp and clean and "perfect" but, there's just something different about a dirty and imperfect live performance. Give me the dirt!

Live always, especially DP
The brother on the right is the guy who knows everything about music, the guy on the left is Rain Man
“Flight of the Rat”. You will love and may not have heard before. Great to see a first time listen. I remember my first time hearing those solos, it made me experience a musical type of orgasm. Deep Purple are the greatest.
I am 50 and this is one of my favorites, Tks guys
You guys take me back to school !!! - Not always good , but we had THE BEST music in the 70s - such a trip down memory lane - so grateful !!
I saw Deep Purple in concert. They were amazing! The energy in the auditorium was crazy!
You must drive to this song at least once lol.
One of the great things about some of their songs is that musically the chords/riffs they play during the solos have nothing to do with the verses and chorus. But they do it in a way where, unless you're a musician, you have no idea they're doing that. This song is a perfect example of that. Lord and Blackmore had some classical training, and it shows up in the music. I mentioned this in another post, but Lord was playing a Hammond organ through a Marshall amp to give it that crazy, distorted sound, which almost makes it sound like a guitar sometimes. Another great choice. And I'm also going to recommend a couple of things I mentioned on another post - by now you may have heard these, but you really need to listen to The Who's Quadrophenia all the way through, it's unreal. And check out their Isle of Wight concert from 1970, watching them live gives you a whole other way to appreciate them, especially those early days. Just watching Keith Moon alone is worth it. And one you may have never heard - 'Tin Soldier' by The Small Faces. Based on what I've seen of your reactions, you'll love it. You gotta see the 'live' version with P.P. Arnold singing with them - they're not playing live, but just to see them on stage is something. Here's a link - kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKqLttaxj7PegNI.html
Love this tune. No sitting still on this one!
I saw them along with Uriah Heep and several others including Ted Nugent at a summer jam in Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City late 70’s. What a day!!! ☮️♥️😎
You have to listen to Lazy next, especially if you love his voice. Peace!

I am well known as being a zep fan but omg I love purple to the core I love this song Blackmore is a beast
This guy's so into his car, of course he's gonna scream right up front! Another kind of quiet inner screaming, listen to Pictures of Home. Guy goes nuts on a mountain.
Oh I should not, but the speeding tickets 🤣🤣I totally get it, no way would I trust myself to play this in a car
thank you for reacting to my favorite band ever,DP! keep on rocking!(i am driving to this song almost every day...)
You need to react to the live version of this. The keyboard player is unbelievable.
The best song to challenge a Highway patrol :)
This is a one of their greatest songs Love it the first time I heard them ,AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
Intense song...and the drumming!! 😳
I bought the Machine Head album when I was 16 and was totally surprised at how heavy this song was! It always gets my heart pumping. The song "Hard Lovin' Man" from their 1970 album "In Rock" is the blueprint for modern thrash metal. It has wailing vocals, a galloping guitar, a harmonized guitar solo - very heavy for 1970.
, quelle pêche d'enfer ! Solos inépuisables. J'adore
we call that "driving music", get in the car, crank it up and go! Keep on Ya'll!
Listen to the live version on Made in Japan!!!!
As someone has commented: "The best driving song!!!" And as someone mentioned below: the song has caused many driving ticktes! ha!
Can't wait to see more🤗 Smoke on the Water & Woman from Tokyo gets you going!

Yeh!In this song first solo is a duo!
Burn and Lazy are great songs by Deep Purple. Their most famous one is Smoke on the Water
Highway Star was a great first choice from Deep Purple. Try Burn next; you'll love it. Deep Purple "Burn" was the first album I ever purchased (back in the 70's, I was only 9). Try anything from Boston's first album. Good first choice: Foreplay / Long Time; Its a banger.
Agreed....Lazy is an amazing song by Deep Purple!
JUST SO YOU KNOW, WHEN EVER YOU SEE DEEP PURPLE LIVE..IT'S THE SAME AS BEING IN THE STUDIO. AFTER ALL. ROGER GLOVER, BASS. JOHN LORD, KEYBOARDS. RICHIE BLACKMORE, GUITARIST, IAN PACE DRUMS. IAN GILLAN LEAD VOCALS. ARE ALL PROFESSIONAL BAND MEMBERS. ONLY PERFORM ONE WAY... SO DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE LIVE "HIGHWAY STAR". THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING... JUST A FRIENDLY NOTE.. PEACE TOO THE TWO OF YOU...ACTUALLY WISH I KNEW YOU TWO BACK WHEN ALL THIS MUSIC WAS NEW... THE TWO OF YOU SEEM LIKE YOU WOULD OF BEEN A BLAST TO HANGOUT WITH!!!
When I got my 8 track player I had to watch my speed constantly or 130 was the only speed listening to this.🤯😂🤘
Please listen to their Made in Japan album live !
We where driving to this song all the time!
Speed king live at the Nec 2002 Is wonderful...you will be surprised...
Guys, you asked for a Deep Purple song you might not know. theres a track on "Who do you we are" called Place in line..A little known underrated gem of a song.Give it a listen they never disappoint.
My best friend, may he rest easy, used to say, "he screams REALLY well" LOL
Smoke on the water made me buy the album as a kid , once I played highway star and lazy and pictures of home , smoke on the water wasn’t so good lol

Exactly !! -SOTW was kind of basic and did not showcase the band's true capabilities !!"
I think now he`s ready for "BURN" ! :DDD
Lead singer Ian Gillan as Jesus on Andrew Lloyd Weber's Jesus Christ Superstar. Regardless of your religious beliefs, his singing was beautiful and epic on this double CD from 1970.
Patrick's eyes getting BIG about 12 seconds into the song 😂
What George said about jealousy because Patrick hadn't heard the song before....That is why I love reaction videos. I can only listen to a song for the first time only once, it is a joy to watch someone else enjoy the great music that I love. Great reaction, guys. BTW, this is one of my favorite driving songs. The band Chickenfoot does a great live cover of this song as well, you should check that one out too. 👍
@BroAction-something you might not know? Sweet (the band) Ballroom Blitz. Do the video with it, they were one of the first "Glam" rockers. Amazing musicians. Mick Tucker is my favorite drummer of all. Fun song.
Blackmore was schreding the guitar before anyone else knew what it was !
Here's a gr8 version of Highway Star I think you both will enjoy, where you can appreciate the guys playing their instruments esp. in the organ and guitar solos. I just wish that all bands would put a camera on every member so that we could watch each one individually or the whole band at one time because I would have really enjoyed seeing more of drummer Ian Paice killing it . kzread.info/dash/bejne/h3V_pbRwm7SzhLQ.html
This album; Ritchie Blackmore; this song.... are ALL dangerous! loll So goddam good!!!!! Please, check out the Made In Japan album. Best cuts of all these Machine Head tunes...
The lyrics got it wrong in one place, at 3:49. He didn't sing I see her (about his girl), he sang I seed her. :p
I Wish you guys played the video of them live.
Awesome !!!! 🛣⭐🎸
Blackmore is my favorite too.

I guess "Smoke On The Water" is the obvious follow up. I saw them live in 1971 as an 11-year-old, but before the "Machine Head" album was done.

Highly recommended Rainbow’s Stargazer and A Light in The Black, side 2 of Rainbow Rising. Those songs tell a story you have to hear. That saga continues on Long Live Rock and Roll with Gates of Babylon. Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Ronnie James Dio on vocals and Cozy Powell on drums.
What you keep referring to as guitar, is not guitar. It is Jon Lord on the Hammond B3 organ, one of the best. Ever.
PERFECTTTT SONG FOR A SPEEDINGGG TICKET GUYS!!! :) YEAH THE ( MADE IN JAPAN ) VERSION IS GOOD TOO BUT ORIGINAL IS ALWAYS THE WAY TO GO 1ST!

Hi, Guys', I understand how much of a damn good song "Highway Star" was when You first heard... but, why don't You try "FREEBIRD"??!! It's a Southern Rock type of song!! It builds to a quint-essential playing style! Try the live, Oakland, '77...Lynrd Skynard, You will not be disappointed!!!
''Bloodsucker'', ''No One Came, ''Rat Bat Blue'', ''Into the Fire'' ''Space Truckin'' , ''No No No'' and most anything off DP's catalog.
He really likes his car...........

Perfecto extraño una buena cancion
My first "adult" album (no Monkees) that I paid for myself $3.56 at 1812 Overture Records & Tapes. I don't think I appreciated just how awesome they were. I do now.
Get in - buckle up and hang on!!

Iam Paice monster!
Richie Blackmore - 'nuff said.
While I was listening to Deep Purple back in the day, and I certainly wouldn't know from experience, but I have been told some people smoked grass to enhance the experience. Some claim that to be true!
