Deep Engraving Metal Coins - Full Instructions & Fiber Laser Settings
Ойын-сауық
In this video I'll be going over the full instructions and settings on how to deep engrave metal coins. I'm using Lightburn with my fiber laser but you can do the same thing if you're using EZCad. These settings are based off the Monport GI60 FIber Laser which is a 60 Watt fiber laser paired with a 200mm lens. If you are using a different laser with more or less power and different lens, you can still achieve these results although you might have to adjust certain settings. I'll also be giving away this Terminator coin to one lucky winner so If you'd like to enter for a chance to win, simply leave a comment and make sure you're subscribed. I hope you find this video helpful and if you did, please give it a thumbs up and hit that Subscribe button for more.

But with the proper lens you can do this at least 4 times faster! With more detail at the same time! Man, you have a super powerful laser with these 60 W, but deep engraving a small coin with a lens having a huge working area of 200 x 200 mm is just a massive waste of time. Also a massive waste of the resource of the laser source, which resource is not infinite. And a 60 W laser source is not at all cheap. You need a lens with as small as possible working area. The smaller the working area of the lens, the faster it will work. And also, the smaller the working area of the lens, the finer spot it produces, hence more details you get. Lens with a 35 x 35 mm working area may not be enough for this large coin. But a lens with a working area of 50 x 50 mm will do for sure. It will do the same coin around 4 times faster and you will get at least 2 times more detail!
I have watched this video seven or eight times, and each time I watch it I pick up something new that I overlooked the first time. Great video with great detail. Thanks for sharing.
That zapping sound is crazy satisfying to listen to for some reason!
Ive had my fiber for a little over 6 months or so. Belong to various groups and KZreadrs. Nice concise and easy to follow instructions. Thanks.
I am pleased to see an example using the GI60. I purchased my GI60 about a month ago and I have been having a challenging time doing coins. I like your technique and will try that on mine. Thaks!
It looks really good! I am actually really impressed that these home lasers can etch that much metal away. Glad you have ventilation.
I’ve watched you video about 5 times. It’s a great video. Very helpful information presented in a clear coherent manner. Thanks man 💪🏻
Wow, that's a great result from this method! Thanks for demonstrating your engraving technique.
Newly Subscribed. C02 lasers and 144:1 scale doll houses has been my forte for a while until I purchase my Commarker 60W Mopa. Thank so much for a great lesson on brass coins. Very, very, very informative. I use the exact same set-up and my first brass coin was incredible. Now I have to watch all the rest of you content....Thanks again
Came out pretty sweet as most of your projects do. Appreciate the information and entertainment!
Very good instruction. I like the way you explained the difference i the clean-up layer.
WOW! The engraving came out really detailed! 🔥👍🔥

The coin looks awesome!!!
This is pretty cool to watch! I'd love to have a few custom coins made.

That terminator coin is bad ass! You do amazing work bro!
Those coin designs look sick!
Love it! Wish I could engrave some of the aluminum castings I've done with the molds I've got from you.
Another hobby added to my list! Have to get me one now
Coin looks grate thanks for the knowledge on using a laser engraver !
Hi. A quick tips is to just activate "Sub layer" and add a cleaning layer, no need to duplicate the image and run it on a seperate layer . =)

That came out really good bro. It's amazing the technology we have nowadays. 👍
Dang that was cool. Technology is amazing!

Very nice. I thought it looked great straight from the machine, but the polish makes it look like it was stamped.
Impressive lasers to be able to etch away that material. Almost better than a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.
I only wish I could afford a laser. Great video. Thanks

Keep up the great work

Thanks for the video. I had bought some height maps but nobody from the laser groups would help in how to properly set them for engraving.

Did you figure out how to set up your height Maps?
Looks good, at almost an hour for the coin, that is a long time to do these. Very nice though!
Great vid. Quick question. Why did you choose the different frequency setting for the cleanup as well as the other settings? If you could explain you choice it may be helpful to us newer folks understanding how to pick those things.
I love the future!

I am not sure why, but I am certain that I need one of these.
Great info. Thanks for the height map website. I need to figure out why my fiber takes so long. I'm running the 30w Monport with a 150mm lens and a coin takes mine over 3 hours.

The speed is 3150 mm/sec in this tutorial which translates to 189000 mm/min. Sometimes lightburn changes the units, I would make sure that the units are the same and give it another go. It took me a while to get that figured out haha

For example, if you get a lens with half the working area size 75 x 75 mm - your speed will be around twice faster than with 150 x 150 mm lens. Also, 30 W laser will be 2-3 times slower than 60 W laser.
hi, nice demonstration and instruction. I'm wondering if we need a MOPA laser or this can go with regular fiber + lightburn 3d slice?
Thanks for the detail tutorial. i have 30 W JPT can you please suggest the parameters.
Very nice coin, which brush did you use to polish the coin with the second time? Did you use a polishing agent also? Last time i cleaned a coin like that, it turned red some places 🤔
Ok. That’s pretty cool. You should try the two-face coin from The Dark Knight.

I’m curious what would happen if you adjusted the image in light burn and made the contrast darker? Would it the blacks deeper and whites higher or is that dependent on the detail?
Thats cool, I’m looking for someone to do a sterling silver medical alert dog tag.🇨🇦
Do you have a rotary for this laser? If so what kind do you use?
Great Vid, thank you. When I 3dRelief engrave I can't seem to get the coins to shine afterwards. What is the wire brush you're using on your rotary tool? Thanks

Definitely some amazing steps 🙂, I pulled the skull and cross bones form the website and tried to follow along, but my run time is something like 13 hours, which isn't right. I will go back and try again. How do you know what depth, from surface to surface, do I? I am running the 1/8 coins for now.

Tell me, please, if I send you a .stl file with the correct dimensions (for example, the depth of engraving 0.25 mm), will you be able to engrave the coin? Or do you need a vector file created for example in Corel Draw program?
Hello my friend Howaryou
What type of bristle brush do you use? Is it a nylon, steel or another type? I normally just use polish but I don't seem to get a decent finish with just the polish.

Depends on what you’re looking to do. For an overall one I would probably suggest the xtool. You can swap out laser modules depending on your needs. It won’t do deep engraving but for everything else it’s great!

I 3D model my designs in blender
Question… with my 50 watt fiber laser I finally got the coin to engrave just fine.. however at 256 passes it stays on just the outter edge for the last like 100 passes and engraves it super deep like ridiculously deep….can I try just 100 passes? And add more if it’s not enough? Or is there a definitive way to tell how many passes I need?
@ArtByAdrock
5 ай бұрын
Are you using my coin or what design is it? With 3D sliced mode adding more or less passes will essentially double up the layers or remove some. Have you tried adjusting the power and/or focul distance from the lens. I would start there first. Shoot me an email if you want and I can try and help more.
