Would absolutely recommend that Sad Dads hoodie, very comfortable (Btw there’s a poll in the description to vote on who gets covered in future DDDs! I also added a section for feedback for the first time - I wanna hear what you think about the DDD as a series1)

@@OrgaNik_Music umphhh... using your comment as a reply space, still this is my attempt to respond to all 4 responses under this comment thread... right off the bat, 😓🥲 will be completely honest and admit that i agree with what everyones said on here. i wouldn’t say I’m a huge T. National fan, but the songs i do dig from them....OMFG they’re absolutely amazing and incredible pieces of music. Will also bring up the point, well at least for me, that watching some of their songs being performed live absolutely adds another layer and kicks them up a level in regards to what makes their music epic... just watching the hammering of the guitar and drums being executed live during BloodBuzz Ohio always sucks me in and tricks me into believing there’s something special about this band... but in short if i can describe this band and perhaps their aimed fanbase i will use a similar joke that trended when Jay Z dropped his 4:44 album... he made a rap album for golf players... 😅 The National makes music for individuals with doctorates or medical degrees that love artsy tunes.... seriously 🤣 yet... it all sounds so similar

The National is a slow burning band; you may get into them, or you may not. And it does take some time to truly fall in one direction or the other. Their songs hit harder if you grew up with them too; each album has different focuses from dealing with young adulthood, work, relationships, broken relationships, family, and the shaky self of self that comes with age. Like the comment above me said, their live performances are the best way to get a feel for the soul of their music. Songs like “Bloodbuzz Ohio,” “The System Sleeps…,” “Graceless,” and “England” to name only a few just hit different. Overall, though, they’re a band to check out when you’re feeling contemplative and want something more chill playing. Bonus points if you have time to read some of the lyrics at the same time.

Mr. MicTheSnare, just wanted to thank you for introducing me to so much new music over the last few years. It is actually insane to me how much you've been able to change how I genuinely enjoy music. In the crowded space of how music has been reviewed over the last decade or two, and definitely longer, your videos have made me look at music in a much less toxic lens. Genuinely, your videos, and especially Deep Discog Dive, have helped me appreciate music more than I ever have. Probably cringey, I don't care. Thank you.

My favorite music KZreadr doing a video on my favorite band was a fantastic surprise! Also, I'm so happy you gave a shout out to "So Far So Fast", it is maybe my favorite song by them and I rarely see it talked about. The whole of "I Am Easy to Find" is so rich in textures and emotions and it is still my favorite album by them and I think it's really underrated. Other highlights like "Quiet Light", "Hairpin Turns", "Oblivions", "Where Is Her Head" and of course the title track are all just so powerful and so beautifully composed, I really do believe it is a very special album and I encourage anyone to listen or re-listen to it. I also really loved their recent two albums, and I feel very confident in that they are both going to stand the test of time. Anyway, this was a really great deep dive, thank you so much for doing it, amazing video as always!

And I’m so happy to get into them at this point in their discography because I am enjoying all the phases of their career and am loving their more recent and varied albums so much. It’s great to hear the diversity and excitement they seem to have making new soundscapes while keeping true to their sound. I completely disregarded Laugh Track when it came out since I did not like Last Two Pages, but since the concert I have really been playing that album out and it's so much better than I gave it credit for. Okay, I thought I vaguely remembered them doing a Hunger Games soundtrack! I was kind of pissed about the Catching Fire soundtrack at the time cause I preferred the country/folk bent of the first one and Sia doing ‘Elastic Heart’ with The Weeknd doesn’t hit the same as The Carolina Chocolate Drops and The Civil Wars in terms of in universe atmosphere. Probably a bit short-sighted, but I was really into The Hunger Games at the time and can recognize how stacked that soundtrack was in retrospect.

This video just came up in my feed and I'm glad it did (good timing, too as I'm seeing them play in Melbourne in three days) as it was like listening to myself talk to people about The National. So afterwards - based on things you like about The National and other artists you mention that I also appreciate - I went to see if you'd done a Discog dive into Andrew Bird , only to find none. If you're a fan of Andrew, I'd love to see your dive into his work (although it would be long). Anyway, just wanted to say that I love the vid and because us music nerds love to give backstory of our own musical discovery when no one has asked: I first came across The National from Dark Was the Night and got High Violet when it came out (so technically their first for me). I actually found that Trouble Will Find Me didn't grab me at first, but grew to be one of my favourites. Sleep Well Beast I (ironically) almost slept on, but have come to love it too. I'm Easy to Find was the first National album to grab me from the get go (weird, I know because I think your description of it was spot on) since High Violet. I love Matt's voice when coupled with female voices though so that probably was a factor. Frankenstein & Laugh Track are good albums and I enjoy them, but I certainly wouldn't offer them to someone as a starting point (although The Alcott is one of my top ten National songs)

I saw this video when I was quite sick. After this video I listened to a couple of their tracks and fell asleep. I then had fever dreams of Mic touring with them and collabing with Lil Uzi Vert, Beyonce and other artists I have forgotten. 10/10 video, can't wait for the tour dates

One of these days Mic will run out of bands and then I’ll get a Porcupine Tree Deep Discog Dive. One day. Great as always dude, our retrospective series on this band really gave me a renewed appreciation for them when I thought I couldn’t love them more, and then subsequently burnt myself out on them… and watching this makes me wanna listen to Sleep Well Beast like right now lmao

Thanks for this video bc I've been slowly getting into The National's music both through the Taylor Swift pipeline and because my sister is a fan, but their discography is vast enough that I didn't quite know where to go next. I actually loved First Two Pages, as well as many of the more classic songs from past albums so I'm excited to go deeper!

I really want to become best friends with you after this video. Loved everything you brought and laughed at every joke or reference, this is a spectacular video on The National and YES Sleep Well Beast is their greatest record!!!!! I'd like to add that Eucalyptus is a banger tho and Laugh Track is the album I was kind of hoping for when they announced the ok-ish Frankenstein album. Cheers and congratulations on the great work man!!

Fuuny that you mention IAETF as a non-introductory National album: because it was my introduction to the band. I've been a fan of Mike Mills' film 20th Century Women for quite some time, and after the announcement and trailer for C'mon C'mon I was interested in checking out any more of his work, which sent me to the short film. Quiet Light' is far and away my favorite from the album, and I can hear the piano so distinctly in my head, much like Light Years. Thank you for the video. P.S: Ugh, I can't forget to talk about the strings on the outro for Quiet Light. Beautiful.

Smoke Detector legit blew me away the first time I heard it, one of the most electric and raw things they've ever recorded by far. I love the use of auto-tune in that track too, really sells the deranged rambling delivery of the lyrics. Surprised you didn't talk more about Space Invader too, hearing Matt's mumbling get buried in the mix while the climax builds and explodes around him for like three minutes straight is one of the highlight moments of their whole discography honestly.

One of my favorite bands ever, but it took me awhile to get there. I didn’t know what to make of them but I felt like there was something there. Took about a year until I made a breakthrough and I was like “hey! This band is pretty good!” Took about another year before I made another breakthrough and I was like “oh my god! This band is amazing!”

Hiiii! Your friendly neighborhood Claire here to chime in on all the love for this video because WOW. This is absolutely perfect. No notes. And sure, maybe I'm biased because this band has spent the past year burrowing deeper into my heart. But regardless, hearing you talk about a band you're so passionate about makes this video shine so bright, and I truly love that. Now buckle up because this is gonna be a longie 😅 First of all, how do we have the same favorite songs??? I Need My Girl was the first National song I fell in love with, but Apartment Story has recently taken the crown for my favorite song of theirs ever--partly for all the reasons you mentioned but also because of the ending refrain. As someone who's struggled with anxiety and seasonal depression for most of my life, it's truly comforting. Sometimes you just need someone to say we'll be alright, you know? This is going to sound so lame but genuinely, I didn't think to check The National out until I heard the opening of your original DDD almost exactly a year ago--so glad you expanded on that by the way, it's genuinely so endearing. And that plus a deep dive of my own into their past records inspired me to buy a ticket for one of their Chicago shows after only listening to them for like, a week. And let me tell you, I am SO glad I did. Even though I was up in the balcony and could barely see the band and barely knew the words to most of the setlist, I still walked out of there knowing it was the best show I had been to in years... possibly ever? And that is SO special. I can't thank you enough for pointing me (and so many others, I'm sure) in the direction of this band. I would love to pick your brain about all their music (and so much more), but for now I'll settle for watching this video on repeat. Because again. Perfect video is perfect. (And if it wasn't already obvious...I think I have a crush on you 😊) Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU ❤❤❤
