Deep Blue - Ashley Hatch

Спорт

Ashley Hatch had to make the difficult decision when she was young to abstain from playing club soccer on Sundays. She credits her decision as a contributing factor to her success as a US Women's National Team player and one of the top players in the NWSL.

The genuineness of Ashley Hatch portrayed in this video is not just for show- it is real. I had the privilege of spending time with her when she came to a soccer game of a good friend of mine, her sister, Bri (the one interviewed). Humble confidence is totally captured in her- what a better place this world would be if all of us could be as humble and confident in our gifts as is Ashley Hatch! Knowing her sister, Bri as well as I do is just as inspiring. The way the two of them love, support, and encourage each other is truly unique. Both Ashely and Bri are gifted soccer players but Bri was not able to progress as far as Ashley due to injuries. Yet, there is now and never has been jealousy between them. Bri is so proud of Ashley and is certainly her biggest fan and Ashely supports and encourages Bri in her soccer playing as well. To me this story is as inspiring as the ones portrayed in this video. The world is a better place because of these two!

I'm certainly in favor of LDS kids avoiding playing on Sunday as long as they can, and I have a son who made the same decision. At the same time, there is something to be said for the obligation one might feel to teammates when they play in tournaments if they have committed to a team that does play in them. My son committed to play for a club team being run by his high school soccer coach and featuring a number of his teammates on the high school team, in order to better prepare for his senior high school season. He did so with the understanding that he would not play Sunday games. Before the season, their team (from Utah) played in a tournament in Southern California. In their first game, in which they did not play particularly well, they ended with a draw. The team made it out of the qualifier stage into the semifinals by beating a team that exuded extreme confidence, but the semis were on Sunday. We had planned on not being at the games at all, but the coach asked my son and another who also chose not to play (but was not as integral to the team) to come to support the team. My son happened to be an exceptionally fast player and, as the game went on and the team was not doing very well, the coach, who was not far away from us, started to say how much they missed his speed before he caught himself--knowing that my son could hear him. The team lost the game that they probably would have won otherwise. To make matters worse, the team that won the tournament was the team they had tied in the first game while not playing very well. There was a very realistic probability that the team would have won the tournament if my son had played. My son has since reconsidered whether he made the right decision. My point is that I don't think the Lord has a blanket rule for us regarding playing on the Sabbath. I'm sure Ashley Hatch has played games on Sunday with the USWNT, and professionally, while BYU soccer legend Aleisha Cramer Rose chose to end her USWNT career because she didn't feel good about playing on Sunday. Most professional athletes play on Sunday, including faithful Latter-day Saints, and some choose not to. The decision always needs to be made by thinking it out and praying to know His will in your own situation.

*To become a great forward the player must hire a private coach for him to teach the player the tricks related to the position. Carli Lloyd had her own private coach. The private coach would teach you how to dribble as you are running with the ball which is one of Ashley's weaknesses. You would learn how to move around the backline. How to gain speed, etc.*

We arrived in Gilbert AZ. and I was in a Ward with her Former Basketball Coach and she was already a legend in Soccer. Everybody said even then she'd be a college All American, they hoped U of A or ASU, but no doubt BYU was a great choice. The USNWT and Golden Boots in the Pros those are just the frosting on top.

I think Ashley has the potential to be one of the greatest players in her position. I pray she stays injury free and gets the chances needed to get to the level I know she is capable of.
