Technically, your pens and glue aren’t junk either. I think gesso falls into that same category. Use it!

You can use white acrylic paint with any opaque or clear medium and get the same effect 🥰🌸😸
This is such a fun journal! And I think gesso is so basic, like a tool, not a medium, that it's fine to use on a project like this and honestly, on anything!

The lady who said that gesso ink glue and I think even stamps that you use with ink are all acceptable as enhancements to the paper junk stuff. Yours is turning out so lovely

I think using gesso is fine! Adds so much more flexibility on how the pages, especially the glossy ones, can be used.

I think there are junk journal STYLE books that include using digitals, paper and ephemera bought for this effect-most of what’s on KZread is this as people want to sell their digitals. Then there are actual junk journals like you are making that are papers and items you’ve collected in daily life. It’s a way of finding beauty and value in the mundane, and I find it much more interesting than digitals. Using paints, gesso, crayons, etc. that you already have seems like a great way to bring the items to life.

Use gesso! Mine is homemade. I don’t think using gesso, even if it's store bought makes it more organic. The junk foundation is the most important.

Use gesso. No rules Some papers need gesso to work on it.
Love this little journal. I have been collecting "junk" but have never started putting anything together. I love your approach anc now i am looking at every piece of junk that comes my way in a brand new light. Thank you for that. And i say gesso is like glue, and other tools needed to put the junk journal together. I say use it!

Use gesso. I subscribed when you posted videos without talking. Loved watching your sped up techniques. Other junk journal crafters explain every movement they make, film everything they do. It can sometimes become repetitive. Just letting you know, your videos were very unique!❤ I do want to see this journal finished, I look forward to a flipthrough. Very cute cover, love it.😊

For me the basic materials for construction are junk but mediums like gesso, ink, paint, staples, tape, pens etc are necessary to make the junk journal usable. Loving your journal so far, very inspiring.

Shana your junk journal is lovely. To me anything goes, I use gesso, matte medium, watercolours acrylic paint, inks, acrylic markers in my junk journals.

Guesso, glue, tape etc are “tools” as is paint, ink, colored pencils, crayons etc. the tools each individual artist chooses to use is up to each of them and doesn’t stop the journal from being labeled as “Junk.”

Only you can decide if you want to impose 'rules' in your art & craft. I have thrown out all rules. I do what I enjoy and makes me happy. I have taken the tip of writing on a scrap of paper to get size and space right before writing on the main page.

Hi. Wish I had all your junk journal junk papers. Not a big enough selection and my desk is pretty small so I do most of my crafty stuff on my sofa, believe it or not! I think things like gesso, inks, watercolor, pens, and such are always allowed. Everything is allowed that you allow yourself. It's your journal 😊

I have to either write, draw, sketch or paint in mine. No wrong way to do it... I just like it to feel like a inner monolog of my life, in the moment. I bring my daily art/junk journal with me wherever I go(I generally have multiple journals I'm working in, but usually one main one, if that makes sense, 😂). I'm really glad I ended up finding your channel, and I love your accent! ❤
