I remember reading somewhere way back then that the opening notes were played by George Martin on an Ondioline (an early type of synthesizer) for that 'harpsichord underwater sound' and that John played the acoustic guitar, which makes sense.

@MrPALASUS The effect used on John's vocals is a spring reverb, then John overdubbed his voice in the secondary parts, and also has been slightly sped up to make him sound younger (George Martin used this trick several times, e. g. on "Rain")

This is a great example of how, as a bass player, ultimately you, not anyone else decides what the chord is going to be. In one verse Macca says it's an A because he says so. In the next verse, it becomes an E (or is it still an A?) because he says so. Bass players' revenge!

I never thought about it before but when you listen to this drum track someone (Ringo? Mal?) turns the snares on and off depending on when the Snare Drum is being used or not so the kick the drum doesn’t make them ring! simple but GENIUS🤯

I suggest the “guitar” they say John is playing could be the chorus electric. In my ears the guitar and guitarist changes after the middle period, as they go to the chorus. Those parts are on the same track. There are photos of them rehearsing this song with both George and John playing electric guitar. I never noticed the piano pattern that goes with the bass in verses. By the way, I would like to know has George Martin ever said he plays piano on this song, where does this information come?

@@DLD2Music They are rehearsing the song they are going to record the next day. John can be seen rehearsing with George the electric guitar bits, which are on the same track, back to back. John can also be seen checking amps to use. The chorus electric, that must be the one John is playing. George has talked about the transition bit, which also sounds so much like his playing. The chorus is different.

Around 7 minutes you the crashing piano chord much the one used in 'Aday in the Life' but it's heavily phased. The tanbura also creates a phasing kind of sound, or should I say druggy kind of sound. Then @20:10 the drugs kick in!.

The Tampura sounds like it was reversed, my brain is too tired at the moment to figure out if George had to listen to the track backwards while he played to get this effect but at least there's only one thing you do on that instrument, no fretting or changing of notes just rake slowly across the strings
con la batería se filtra la vocalización más zarpada de lennon que salió en anthology. no la definitiva de sgt pepper.

Really makes it obvious how many very simplistic little parts of only average musicality can be "produced" into something brilliant. Honestly, no one part is very special or clever. And, I'll bet they could never have played a decent version live ... just drums, bass, rhythm, lead (or keys by John), 2-3 voices. Ha ha.
is it early take?
