Did 5 orders with DoorDash and they either cancelled or were late by 45 - 90 minutes on delivery. They must pay their drivers very poorly. Stopped giving me credits after giving me $65 for cold food and late deliveries. Said they can't give any more credits, but were sorry! LOL Used the last of my credits for pickup. DOORDASH SUCKS!

I remember I got an order for McDonalds. it was a high payout, and the miles were good, so I accepted it. I received a text saying that she'd leave a bigger tip if all items are in there. I happily obliged with making sure all items were in there. Once it was delivered via the instructions, I waited an hour for the result. I ended up getting a 45$ tip.

I took a double restaurant order going to the same address once. Not knowing it was going to a hoody part of town. When I arrived to the very large & confusing apartment complex the customer came out to get his orders, thanked me and tipped me $20 cash for delivering his orders. I guess not many driver's we willing to deliver his orders previously. I probably wouldn't have either if I had known the area better.

I called a McDonalds that took FOREVER to make my order and they told me that they don’t start putting the order together until the driver gets there, which pissed me off because I placed the order while their dinner menu was still available but the driver didn’t get there until after they switched, so they “weren’t able” to make my order. So my order just sat in limbo for 45 minutes. I couldn’t cancel because it had been accepted and I would be charged for it. I had to reach out to support to get it canceled.

The way Uber runs its app is predatory. They conceal information from us. When I'm delivering someone to their destination, and a new ride request pops up, it's there for 5 seconds, and as I'm driving I cannot scan over the map to see the new requestor's details. Shame on you, Uber, for exploiting your drivers!

The biggest mistake I think people making is not account for the drive back from an order. If an order is 5 miles but it's 5 miles out of a place where you can take a deliver that delivery is 10 miles not 5. The payout must go up accordingly.

I call it “true miles” When I record my work. I take the miles uber eats tells me I drive and I multiply it by 2. So if I drove 50 miles and made $125. Then my true mile ratio is $1.25 per true mile. As long as the ratio is > $1/mile, I believe its worth it.

I deny anything under that amount and frankly it's frustrating that drivers are taking those because you're making it worse for the rest of us out here. If you drive for a food delivery app please don't ever take a delivery that pays less than that because they'll continue to lower the payouts to drivers.

I'm not a driver, but I order in a lot. It's quite enlightening to see this side of the service, and gives me another reason to tip well for everyone's time, and effort in ensuring the correct order is healthfully delivered. My place is hard to find -- condo door not visible from street or parking lot -- so I especially appreciate it when drivers follow my directions instead of relying on GPS, which usually gets them lost. I have written directions that are very specific, but most don't seem to read it until they end up in the dead end parking lot next door to me. Funny thing, I ordered last night and watched the tracker as he drove into the lot next door. Before he even stopped, my intercom rang and it was him! He said he didn't go next door, but I don't know. He got here fast and the food was hot, so good for him!

@@Sushihunter250 I learned my very first night of delivering to read the instructions before I leave the restaurant parking lot lol! It has saved me so much time and hassle and I always thank people for their detailed instructions! I just wish more people added instructions that live in more difficult places (apartments that can be difficult or aren't labeled well, if your door is located somewhere not on the front of the house, if your house is behind the main house, if all entrances to your housing development are blocked with a gate except one entrance, etc) One major thing I never noticed until delivering is how many houses aren't properly labeled with a house number! Some just do not have numbers on the house or mailbox, they are so small they cannot be seen unless you are a foot away, or they are so faded they cannot be read. I really hate when the house number is painted on the curb. When you live in places that get snow all winter, it is almost always hidden under snow/ice and grass in warmer weather. I remember at first being so naive like "it's probably gonna be this house coming up with the porch light on!" Nope, it most likely the darkest house on the street that hasn't shoveled their stairs all winter and they are solid ice lol!

@@republican4u2nv78 I also order groceries from Instacart. Great service. But, like Skip the Dishes, they often get lost in the church parking lot next door to my apartment building. One of the things I do now, is use the app on my phone to send the driver a note to read the specific directions, and then I send them two photos, 1 is a map with arrows on it showing my place, the 2nd is a photo showing the front of my building from the street, and has my address, buzzer code, and phone number on it. This usually gets the delivery to come directly to my building without getting lost. Unfortunately, we have a large number of Asians driving who's English skills are very low and they don't communicate well. The ability to send photos to the driver really helps make things clear, I wish the restaurant delivery apps had this feature the way Instacart does. It would also help if Instacart made this available on the computer app so I didn't have to use my phone.

Never pick up anything from that store. It is a stressful experience, and they will waste a lot of your time. The customers that use DD for their Walmart groceries are f'king dirt cheap pricks that will not tip you. You'll have to drag $200.00 worth of groceries up to the 3rd floor of their shithole apartment, which is all the way in the back of the complex. They rarely help you carry anything!

@@mikep211 it's really not even that serious as to whether we are "professional" or not, we're delivering food, it's simple. Some customers MAINLY the low paying ones are just entitled people. I hope every driver in the country learn to stop accepting a damn $3 and $4 order. Uber is always a problem though. I had a few false reports that I didn't even drop off the food, so I'm on Grubhub a whole lot more now iys so much more efficient, customers and restaurants respect it more for some reason. And no ratings or petty rankings for such a simple task that we do. I've been told Uber these are reasons why I limit the service I give them specifically, until they actually help drivers. I font do rideshare for Uber at all because Uber customers are entitled. I use Lyft because you can at least explain yourself if you have a false report. Drivers gotta respect themselves and not let an app, basically a video game, run their lives.

I'm on a bike, so I'm a bit more hardcore about it: 1. Pick your area beforehand, ignore the mapped out areas. Meaning, pick the area and the radius you're going to operate in 2. Don't calc considering an hourly rate, instead weigh it out as your final amount versus total trips 3. Determine beforehand how long you are going to be out and even if you do multiple areas, how long at each area 4. No single-digit fares, that's out 5. Fiddle with the app, going between the promotions screen and the home screen. Do this for a few minutes every now and then, and highger fares mysteriously begin popping up with more frequency. The only exception is M-W late night. ...and that's just my standard rules. I have a ton of situation-specific ones. The point being is even on a bike, I make 2-5K a month by exerting the control I DO have. These services are cool, but they are big corporations, so you still have to be vigilant in your dealings with them.

I did the order and it was 6.8 miles total. Nowhere close to what it said and I figured out all it showed me was distance between current restaurant location and the second new restaurant, NOT the customer figured in at all. It happened a second time and showed 576 ft which was obviously wrong to the customer, so it proved my hypothesis. I was not happy. It messes with our judgment)

The "decline-until-worth-it" strategy could work if you are delivering in an area where you get bombarded by alerts every second. But if you work in a low density area, then idling without taking any orders until you get the one that meets your criterium is in your detriment because now your time is worth $0.00 as opposed to at least $3.00. From what I saw in your video, it appears Uber Eats in the U.S. calculates payout a lot different from how it is in Canada. A trip worth 7.00 Canadian dollars is usually (not always) a 15+ km drive (number of kms is usually 2x and sometimes 3x the amount of dollars paid)

You're communicating in the spot where you describe where the order was placed. A perfect spot to add any communication with the customer, usually equals earning a nice tip. In my opinion.

As a customer, let me point out how the customer is always screwed over during disputes. I ordered $40.00 of food with a total distance to my residence of 1.2 miles; I included a $12.00 tip. -- DoorDash accepts the order for pickup and sends me a photo of the delivery, except it was not my home. I called DoorDash, and they stated I should ask the restaurant to refund my purchase since the restaurant charged my CC, not DoorDash. -- DoorDash stated because I did not use their DoorDash app, I would not get a refund. A DoorDash Driver accepted pickup for delivery, and I received notices from my "Dasher." Why is DoorDash NOT responsible? -- DoorDash Refused to refund.

I plan to get back into food delivery soon. What I was doing before on Doordash was not even really looking at the miles and just never taking anything that pays out under $5. I would get burned sometimes with this by taking too many miles but there is no way I am going to accept $2 or $3 orders.

The time spent “waiting for a higher dollar amount order “ , i consider that working time. You’re still on the clock but you’re declining orders. So you have to factor in that time in you’re overall shift/earned income for that day Declining orders, at least in my area, tends to lower the amount of requests you get

Thank you so much for these videos, Mike. You have really helped me get under better financial control with your insights. I've been doing DoorDash now for a couple months and average about 25-30 an hour in the Phoenix/Scottsdale AZ area. I was very interested if you could make a video on the algorithm of orders and zones because my girlfriend also does DoorDash (although much less overall than I do) and when we are on at the same time, in the same location, we see different colored maps! Sometimes it won't allow me to dash and it will let her dash and vice versa. I was wondering if you could possibly give some insight into this and as to why they change so drastically at times. (ex: going from very busy to a gray area within seconds). Thanks for your videos again, I really appreciate and enjoy them. Have a great day.

One tip I am always willing to share with people is if you are getting nearly 100% of your tips it doesn't matter as much if you got a couple of thumbs downs. I think sometimes people, including myself, obsess over your approval rating. I just don't think it matters that much. This is coming from someone who's done Uber eats for nearly 3 years. I think it's funny when drivers tell me how many thumbs down they've gotten in a total year… Honestly I don't even know what my approval rating is I literally don't ever check it. But I can tell you the average amount of tips I get and it's more than the other drivers. So it doesn't really matter in the end if you ask me. so if anyone reads us and they are obsessed about getting a thumbs down… Just stop… Unless they took away your tip I literally wouldn't care. But in the end if they took your tip away there's nothing you can do. Just explore what you can possibly do better next time.

Here in New Orleans UE has been doing quest bonuses at lunch and dinner. I notice that the payouts have decreased as time has gone on. Now it’s $3 for 5 trips. I’ll take a fast food order if i know I can go inside the restaurant or I am close to hitting the quest bonus. Not a fan of the stacked orders with two different pickup locations.

Aloha Mike! I drive in Hawaii around the island of Oahu. Demand here is consistently high. I've always declined anything under $7. Yes, leaving confirmation notes are a higher class of customer service, which sometimes brings a additional tip. I average $28 - $35 per hour. Mahalo for making a video about valuing your time by declining those low trips. I drive 9am - 12pm, take a break and start again 4-5pm until 8:30-9pm. I drive in the higher class neighborhoods so tips are usually pretty high. This plandemic has been great for the delivery business! I've noticed after things have loosened up people are still getting their meals delivered. Uber Eats has been good to me so I've never thought about doing another service, but I appreciate the info on them. Take care, be well! - Aloha

Don't know if someone already commented, but having a fuel efficient vehicle is a must. Also, I worked the Hollywood area at night and having to wait in the drive thru line to pick up orders are A LOT of time. Maybe if they made a little parking area with dedicated staff for the deliveries would be faster? Been a while since I drove there so it may have changed by now.

I dash late nights, so it’s mostly McDonald’s, Checkers and 7-Eleven. One of the McD’s let’s us pick up inside, the others are drive-thru only. Checkers waits till you check in to make your orders. 711 tends to be a quick pick up, possibly a few minutes if there’s hot food. So this is another consideration when looking at the mileage to the store. If I have to drive a few miles to the in-store McD’s, I’ll probably get done faster than if I’m close by a different one. I also take into account highway vs city driving.
