    We don't recommend putting them directly on dirt as the flex could cause the locking mechanism to break. You're only two options are to level the dirt and pour a thin layer of concrete or lay pavers.

    Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could put in between the tiles gaps to hide the plastic backing and to prevent dirt and debris from getting lodged in between the spaces?

    I think trying to seal the gaps is an effort in futility, I just vac mine with a shop vac every couple months.

    My apartment's is right below a shedding tree and it gets dusty where I live. With cement, I just sweep and water away any debris, but with these tiles, there are gaps between the planks, so would dirt, branches, leaves, etc. get trapped underneath the tiles? Thanks!

    Certainly a small amount of grit and debris could get in-between the planks but it would be very minimal.

    I do not recommend laying down on concrete without impermeabilizing it first.. Concrete is absorbing water and the composite material is too close to the ground. Imagine what happens after a summer rain with moisture on the bottom and summer sun on top. They are excellent for balconies and terraces with tiles.

    Hi max it, I can imagine that is a testing situation for any material. I will say when we were selling that product, it had an extremely low rate of moisture related incidents, like almost none. It was an amazing little product, that was easy to install and offered an excellent alternative to building a deck. I have it on my small patio! Thank you for the comment, your cautious word are a welcome addition to the discussion.

    IKEA sells something similar, and during the summer, I even saw them at Costco. Sorry we're not able to offer them anymore.

    While the actual tiles have not been tested, the material that the top of the deck tile is made of is the same material our BamDeck composite decking is made of and here are both test results: Flame Spread Test - bit.ly/2DqUkfj Slip Test Results - bit.ly/2NziJUK

    Will compacted Gravel or sand could be a sub base?

  • @CaliFloors

    @CaliFloors

    Decomposed granite could be hard enough, but gravel and sand would likely be too loose and would cause the tile connectors to flex, weakening them over time.
