Decisions on Sheep Can Lead Towards Sustainable Farming

Replacement lambs have been separated and are in their own space until they are a bit bigger. They are fed a mix of corn, barley and supplements along with their hay.
Next step is identifying if there are ewes that are not ideal to remain in producing lambs. This supports a sustainable sheep operation because keeping only the best sheep as producing will reduce many costs including time and feed costs.

Culling is always hard (but necessary)- some ewes just grow on you. Also- just wondering how it is in Ontario- four bags of raw fleece will yield about $10 CAD? Enough to buy a six pack!!?!?!

You’re right, especially the really friendly ones. Not sure off the top as to what we sold the wool for last year but two years ago which was our first year we sold 4 bags for $100. This year we’re looking at other ways to sell it to generate additional income.
