The "food here" symbol also looks like a hot-cross bun. And the "man with gun" makes me think of someone with their hands up, like at gunpoint. I'd say a good structure for Rogue Code (which, btw, is my dad's screenname. lol) would be subdivide it into the "Gentleman, Warrior, Scoundrel" and start with maybe 3 of each. And a tenth that's just a MR identifier. Maybe a simplified BB star? An example for scoundrel: "this bar friendly to scams"

In my small town, they have an old 2 room jail used back in the late 19th and early 20th century. They only locked up people once in it ( a group of teens for stealing strawberries during a fair.) Anyway, we had lots of hobos back then. Because of the railroad station so we basically turned it into a hobo Bed and breakfast. They always could use old jail as they pleased and lots came and go as they went. In fact their is a little museum bit in it talking about all the rail riders who helped keep the town running.

My friend was born in 1927 and left the house at 9 years old to go make money for his family and he would ride rails and work odd jobs and send home money. When he was 16 he joined the army because 50 dollars a month was a lot of money and they gave him food and clothing. Then he learned he could make double that by being a paratrooper so he volunteered to join the 101st. One month after his 17th birthday he jumped into a dark sky over France. Rogue Code ideas: *1. Gentleman* A simple drawing of a bottle. A gentlemen always enjoys his fine liquor. This illustration allows travelers to know that a gentleman lives near. *2. Warrior* A drawing of a spear. A warrior is always armed. This illustration alerts travelers to the notion that the homeowner will defend themselves if needed. *3. Scoundrel* A drawing of a cartoon bomb (see here: 💣). The scoundrel is a cunning person, neither friend nor enemy. This will recommend travelers remain safe, and attempt not to anger the homeowner. *4. Low security* This drawing looks like a broken window (simple box with a criss-crossed window pane, and zig-zagged lines to show cracks). It informs travelers on the prospect of easy to gather goods, typically through breaking and entering. In opposition to “Little security”: 4.1. High security A similar drawing of a window, though with multiple vertical lines going from top to bottom to signify a barred window, to warn potential invaders that the home is well protected. *5. Police activity* A drawing of the letter “C” (taking inspiration from the ASL symbol for ‘police’). This warns travelers of constant police activity in surrounding areas. Edit: Got some more ideas *6. Pickpockets nearby* A drawing of key, broken in half (to signify the bypassing of security). This warns travelers to keep an eye on their possessions. *7. Easy money* A drawing of a dollar sign (see here: $). This alerts travelers to the prospect of easy money to be made. *8. Spooks easy* A cartoonish drawing of a ghost. This isn’t always necessary for the survival of the traveler, but can be helpful. It lets them know that the resident can be easily scared or startled. *9. Non/smoking zone* A drawing of a cigarette with a line possible crossed through it. This tells travelers whether or not smoking is or is not allowed nearby (in case the mood strikes to smoke some alcohol). *10. Changelings nearby* No drawings could possible grasp the horror of this fact. The only way I can think is a stick figure with its face scribbled out to represent its ever changing form. Beware of this sign, and if you notice it, have your loose change at the ready. You’ll need a viable weapon. That’s all I’ve got for now. Hopefully you guys can get some use out of my ideas!

See, I love this episode so much, and watch it whenever it pops up, not because I'm into the hobo life, or even really care about this particular topic at all, but because this is one of the few times you see BOTH Brian and Jason getting extremely, genuinely, excited. Not just happy, but beaming, and jumping, with excitement. Love to see that!

Fun fact about the caduceus, it was a symbol of tricksters, travelers and thieves because it was a symbol of Hermes, the rod that was related to medicine has only one snake coiled around it as that is the rod of Asclepius the doctor so good he could revive the dead. The meaning of the latter was applied to the former from cultural drift and misunderstanding

@8:20 the symbol is actually the Staff of Asclepius: a single snake wrapped around a staff. You'll see this symbol on ambulances. The caduceus is two snakes wrapped around a staff and a pair of wings and was the symbol of Mercury used by merchants. It became conflated with the Staff of Asclepius because of the similarity and the caduceus's use by apothecaries/pharmacies (which were a business first and healthcare providers second).

Rogue code: Writing alphabets from end to start can represent how far a place is. The closer the message is to A, the farther the place is. For example, ZYXW can represent that a safe place is 4 kilometres away, while ZYXWVUTSR can indicate that a safe place is 9 kilometres away. These symbols can be written vertically or horizontally, or can have small lines on top of them to indicate whether you have to head North, West, East or South.

Fun fact: The symbol used for hospital / medical is actually two symbols. One snake (like the hobo code symbol) represents the Rod of Asclepius, a deity associated with medicine and healing. The one with two snakes, typically accompanied by wings, is the Caduceus, or the staff of Mercury. Mercury or Hermes were associated more often with things like transit, communication, knowledge, secrets, etc. But also sometimes medicine. The use of the Caduceus as a medical symbol is somewhat less common, but has become more popular over time, probably for many reasons.

I think it's important, when developing a Rogue Code, to consider the FUNCTION. What does a Modern Rogue communicate? We'll definitely need a safety/danger indicator, and it's probably smart to say when to be a gentleman, a scoundrel, and a warrior. I propose a vertical line with an X at the top for safety level. Mark the bottom for safe, middle for be wary, and top for get out.
