Planted at 9 pounds per acre and saw very little germination. I kept mowing until September. Other grass took over. Do you think I need to reseed by frost seeding?

If anyone has any history with giant ragweed what is done in those instances when it seem like that chokes out sunlight for saplings and other Forbes to grow? The deer definatly use the ragweed as bedding but is that good enough?

The only issue is the 10-15 acres of open meadows/old pasture is visible by the road because the field sits down in 10-12ft below road. Is there any solution or should I pass on the property and look for a better one?

  • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

    @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

    2 жыл бұрын

    I love to hear that and I'm the lucky one to get to work with Dylan! I wouldn't hesitate. Even in the extreme portions of Winter Severity, those fawns will hook up with other doe family groups and will make it just fine. The only time I see problems are when fawns sit on bait pikes in extreme northern regions where deer need to migrate to deer yards. I've seen that happen where a fawn doesn't leave because of easy food. The deep snows come, other deer leave but they basically get trapped and eventually the bait runs out...snows get too deep...they lack adequate thermal shelter...predators come thru. That can be a bad situation but in 99% of the rest of the country...no problem. Also, high fawn numbers is a great sign of a healthy, low winter severity area with little to no winter mortality. If you need to reduce the population I would take a mature doe...any mature doe 😊 Good luck and thanks a lot for watching!

    Another great video, thanks Jeff. Mid Michigan mixed ag here. I have big beech to be cut down this winter but would it be beneficial to the deer to drop them as part of my December deer chores? Thinking maybe get double the reward of thinning out the canopy and getting those tree tops to the ground for food to hunt around the rest of this season. Thoughts? Thanks-Brian
