December 2022 Lunch and Learn with Marge Blanc

Marge Blanc and I discuss why gestalt language development isn't taught in graduate school, what to do about naysayers, what parents should do at home and what school might look like for GLPs. Find Marge's info at communicationdevelopmentcenter.com and our info/courses at meaningful speech.com

Thank you so much, here in Brazil there isn't no one who knows about this, but now I know what to do to help my daughter

Thank you all !! The most critical piece of information that came with learning about GLP was we no longer waste time on working on skills that are 1-2-3 stage ahead and instead build the base first

This may not be fair of me to say, but I have notice the BCBA types are opposed to this type of thinking. We are in an era of the glorification of quantitative research and data collection. Qualitative methods are looked down on now. I'm a parent, and I just heard about this method. My 13-year-old is mostly nonverbal, despite all the sight words and special education stuff. His new SLP told me about this method and I was like, "YES"! Thank you so much! She was surprised, but I told her about how nothing else has worked and that I have thought for years that my son doesn't understood the concept of sentences. When he was younger, I was told to simplify my speech and to stay away from scripts. Luckily I didn't simplify my speech, and my son's receptive language level seems high. However, I did discourage the scripts and focused on sight words and stuff. This has never worked for him, and he still cannot expressively communicate his needs decently. I'm excited to try the gestalt method. Thanks for acknowledging us..... we are in the trenches.

Hello! I'm a parent to three autistic toddlers who are all GLPs. I have dove into your work and I'm in love, as is their therapy team. I'm always looking for more podcasts on GLP and I wanted to let you know that there is a podcast called Turn Autism Around and on January third they uploaded an episode about GLP. This episode is not safe and does not use neurodivergent friendly language. It also second guesses GLP.

Would love to find someone like Marge here in British Columbia. My son is now 21 and certainly a Gestalt processor -I’ve become his speech therapist because the techniques used in the past have not allowed for an emergence of spontaneous language. He still uses echolalia but I know there’s meaning behind his scripted phrases. How can I help him and those around him ,move forward ?

Wow gestalt thinking that explains a lot, no wonder my kid has no progress academically.
