You are spot on! Learning doesn't have to be one way! My son learns both analytically and through gestalt! Thank you for this! Many SLP's are inflexible and rigid when it comes to teaching speech. You are awesome!
Autistic adhder here. I'm a Gestalt Language Processor and can learn a ton from large amounts of data very quickly. Contextual, interest based learning is how I am able to discern meaning from data around me. Because you may perceive and prefer analytical processing to gestalts, this biases your opinion of how it could possibly occur differently in others. I'm a lover of spoken and written and computer programming languages, and have learned them best in context, and not bit by bit, following a (largely) analytical approach.

As an autism dad, I do feel that the SLTs that I have dealt with in Singapore do not seem so familiar with GLP. The gestalt language processing style is not a theory, but a reality.

I need to talk with you. My son is a gestalt learner. He is 5. Any tips?
This is exactly my thought as my son uses both analytical as well as gestalt.. Eagerly waiting for your verbal children support class..

=D thanks Swati!
I have been working with a lot of "gestalt language processors" and when I came across NLP I had the same question in my mind which you raised in the video also. Why not teach words instead of teaching phrases. I'm glad to have found your video. It helped me in realising that my doubt was legit.
Guess GLP is similar to lexicogrammar in language teaching. It is intuitive learning and works for some situations/ learners but there is few evidence based research to support this theory. Totally agree with Ming that teaching a set of core vocabulary and switch to some lexical bundles/ functional phrases will go a long way. My primary concern being the multilingual environment in Malaysia surrounding my child. Children acquire their language and teaching my child words/ phrases seems difficult. Thank you Ming for bringing this up.
My 2 year 8 montjs, only copies words i say, hes autistic. He never uses a functional word. And repeats the same word. What shall i do, shall i teach more verbs? He only uses one word at the moment
You rock!
Assuming that GLP is a real thing, if you teachs words instead of gestalts they will not be able to break down in lower pieces (mitigate), because a word to them would be a gestalt and not a word in this stage. Only in stage 3 when they breakdown enough their language they will recognize how to use words as words and not gestalts. So they would got stuck in stage 1.

Saying that that is exactly what happened with my daughter she is 4 years old and stuck in one word sentence. But she know duzens of music's lyrics. When I starting modeling she started mix and use to do some new sentences.

But I agree that it may be a spectrum in wich some people uses 100% glp and others 100% alp and I would guess that maybe autistic people are more likely to be next to the end of it as glp and neurotypical kids are likely more analitical
Hi Ming, Can you please suggest any free sources to increase vocab for 6-year-olds?
