    For anyone who has V&H Short Shots without baffles and can't get rid of decel pop, this worked for me: Thunder Torque inserts, and in my FP3 tuner, adjusting the "Decel Enleanment" numbers (starting at 203° and hotter) to 0.20. Changed "Closed Loop Range to 13.8 max, 14.5 min. In my AFR table, anything that was higher than 14.0, I changed to 14.0. Last but not least, set the " Decel Pop" setting onto 1 fire cracked.

    Great advice. I Added the end cap and a few more disc to my supertrapp exhaust on 05 R/K and eliminated 90% of my pop. Plus regained my low/mid range over open end setup. A lot better than adding more fuel at zero throttle via PC3. Thanks for discussing this. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

    Thanks, and glad you're liking the videos. Yes, changing the AFR in your slip-on's may bring on decel pop if you don't have it, or can get rid of it if you do have it. You may like the video linked below. Also, it is on our list to do a video on the Supertrapp style exhaust...it is a really good option for low and mid range power in aftermarket exhaust. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5OYzKSSibzbYps.html

    My HD XL1200C had some decel pop with the stock pipes but I could barely ever hear it. I switched to 3" V&H TwinSlash slip-on mufflers with the quiet baffles and now I can really hear the decel pop. The thing is though, I actually like it. I can avoid the pop just by controlling how fast a throttle-down. The faster I pull it back, the more it pops. If anyone is wondering, yes, I love the sound of the Vance and Hines slip-ons. Louder than stock, but not super loud and a very nice low rumble. I wish all Harley's sounded this good stock but they sound like an old sewing machine. Aftermarket pipes wake it up and make it sound the way it was meant to, decel pops and all.

    Haven't tried them but they may be right about adding inserts to the pipes to eliminate or significantly reduce the pop. I've messed with my V&H FP3 tuner a bunch, to include adding the "firecrackers" option to the tune for decel pop but it hasn't totally eliminated it. I've grown used to it and think it actually sounds good now on deceleration and downshift at speed.

    Reducing the amount of air that can come thru the air cleaner, and then into the exhaust, should have an effect on decel pop....but so should have the TTI's. Decel pop is not bad for your bike. See this video on the subject. - kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5OYzKSSibzbYps.html As noted in the video above, it could be indicative on a problem, but probably is not. Regarding the TTI's, you can run them with or without baffles. Without will give a bit more of a bump in power than with. Thanks for looking at our parts, always feel free to write or call with any questions.

    installed the thunder torque inserts and they did not stop the popping one bit. i have baffles in the pipes also. seems like a waste of money. the one thing i did notice is that the performance was really good but popping even between shifts are horrible. stage one Harley filter and aftermarket pipes. very unhappy with this 2008 street glide. i have had dozens of Harleys and never had this problem. hate computer tech. wish these inserts did what the video said they would. maybe if i put the stock filter back in it will help but have not been able to get an answer back from these techs.

    Decel pop is a pretty simple thing. Just the "right" afr in the exhaust and it is going to pop. It is Very unusual to install TTI's in an exhaust that is having decel pop and have it not increase or decrease the decel pop. The TTI's change the AFR in the exhaust, so there should be a change in the decel pop. Here is another video on the subject that you may find useful- kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5OYzKSSibzbYps.html If you have the right size TTI's installed, and there was no significant change in the decel pop (even though you did have a performance increase), then I would look at the following things- 1. Look for an exhaust or intake leak. Not at all uncommon, and would definitely contribute to decel pop 2. Make sure you have a good tune and are not super heating that exhaust (very rare, but it does happen and there is no getting rid of decel pop in a super heated exhuast)

    I have a carbed Sportster with 1-3/4 drag pipes and an open element air cleaner and larger slow and main jets. I finally had the AFR dialed in until I installed the TTIs. Now the bike is too rich. Puffing black smoke when revved from idle and the pipes and swingarm are black with soot. Is it common to need to jet down with TTIs? I have them turned at a 45° angle and they're adjusted as low as they can go in the pipes. Any suggestions? The bike runs a lot better than it did with open drags but I really don't want to go through jet changes and all the fine tuning again.

  • @DKCustomProducts

    @DKCustomProducts

    Жыл бұрын

    As a rule a bike does not need to be retuned when using TTI's. If it is running stronger now than it was without the TTI's, chance are you were just as rich previously, but just did not see it because of the change in how the exhaust is flowing. That does not mean it would not run even stronger than it is now if you did re-tune.

    Hello from Mississippi. There are two things to consider: 1. On EFI Harley's you cannot read the plugs for richness or leanness like you can on carbureted bikes. There are plenty of articles in a google search on how to read plugs on EFI setups. The short of it is to have the throttle at 100%, or close, while going down the road, then hit the kill switch (while pulling in the clutch) and coast to the side of the road. Then read the plugs. Do the same process with the throttle at 30-40% while going down the road. 2. TC 96 do run hot, much hotter than the 88's. Check out the report at the following link to see why and how to cool them down- www.dkcustomproducts.com/why-how-to-cool-down-the-twin-cam-engine-part-i-dk-cl-tc-dn-1.htm

    Yes, if it is the discless style. However, if you have the Supertrapp with adjustable discs, you can remove all the discs and run just the TTI's. Or you can adjust the number of discs you have and get close to the power of using the TTI's, but be much quieter.

    I just put tab zombies on my 23 heritage and immediately got decel pop. It honestly runs a little better, but knowing the pop is from reversion, im a little concerned about running lean. These pipes are huge inside. Which thunder torque insert do i need ?it smells rich at idle which confuses me a little. Thought it would be lean

  • @DKCustomProducts

    @DKCustomProducts

    4 ай бұрын

    The Thunder Torque Inserts™ will reduce/eliminate the decel pop. You will have more low and mid range power, so you will not need to twist the throttle so much to get the same forward movement. So you should have less of a gas smell. Don't know what, if anything, you're running for a tuner...but if there is still any gas smell, you may still be a bit rich. But the likelihood is that it is just incomplete combustion, due to the reversion, and will probably be gone once the TTI's are installed. You can send us an email with the inside diameter measurement of the exhaust 1-2 inches in and we will help you decide what size TTI's to get; Support@DKCustomProducts.com 662-216-9618 You can also see a sizing chart for TTI's at this link - www.dkcustomproducts.com/choosing-the-right-size-thunder-torque-inserts.htm Thank you for commenting! 😎 MB

    If the bike is running well, and has no long term heat damage (being a 2008), and the only thing you don't like is the exhaust note, that seems easier to fix than getting a whole other bike. Please look at the reply from the other comment you made. That may help. Do you have them installed with the cupped part at the exit end of the exhaust? Like in this photo? www.dkcustomproducts.com/media/wysiwyg/JustRight.jpg You can try changing that angle a bit...but always have the threaded part on the engine side of the exhaust. BUT, from what you described in your other comment, it does seem like you either have an exhaust or intake leak, OR the tune is way off.
