DEATH VALLEY SUPER BLOOM SPRING FLORA 2016

This was caused by massive amounts of water draining into the valley.
Once in a lifetime experience, I'm told.
The people of the valley are calling it a 'Superbloom'.
Bad news: The floods washed out Rt. 178. This will add 50 miles to your trip coming from Vegas.
I managed to get through, but I have a four wheel drive vehicle.
Don't even try it in a car or a two wheel drive pick up.
The fines are heavy, and tow charges astronomical.

Very nicely done! These happen every 15-20 years. The last was 2005, but they are each special. This one moved up valley very fast. We went twice this year during superbloom and they were 675 mile , 18 hour marathon road trips from Irvine since all rooms taken for March. If you missed this one, do not miss again! And more kudos for your video!

+ZackGasse Your right on target with this comment. There's nothing I hate worse then people thinking that they have to be in every shot. Like their comments and insights are so important. Usually their just knot heads that are in love with the camera. There's even a woman who takes her cloths off in Death Valley to make her video count go up. Thank God she doesn't do close ups if you know what I mean.

THOROUGHLY enjoyed this video! I also like your music, but the sounds of silence, tires crunching gravel and wind blowing through the desert were enough for me in this one. Thanks for taking the time to run over there and shoot this! (FYI: EB SR178 doesn't actually start, from the Harry Wade / Badwater/Jubilee Pass intersection, until you get 10.3 miles UP Badwater/Jubilee Pass Road. From the East, SR178 ends 14.6 miles from SR127 (6.3 miles west of the Park boundary.). Approx 2 miles east of the road to Rhodes Spring. Bing and Google both have this screwed up and it causes much confusion. From Ridgecrest, EB SR178 ends at Pinnacle Road. The road to the Trona Pinnacles. The connection between the two was never made due to the creation of China Lake NAWS.)

+james cleveland Since 178 is out. To get to Vegas from Tecopa, one would then have to take the 127 to 373 to the 95 to Vegas? Or what is your recommendation as the shortest route to get from either Shoshonne to Vegas? Also, if one's in a regular sedan, would you suggest avoiding the Henry Wade Road completely? Thanks!

Fastest way from Tecopa to Vegas is up the Old Spanish Trail 35 miles to 160 make a right. You will be in Vegas in 40 minutes. (Watch for State Troopers).Shoshone to Vegas is clear, just go up 373 to Parump make a right. Las Vegas is a hour away. I would not recommend a sedan on any trail.

Amazing stuff James, did you see any bumblebees or other pollinators? It would be a bit of a pity if it all went to waste now with the problems that bees et al are having finding healthy, non-sprayed flowers. I see a little thumbnail to my right of some insects so it seems they find their way somehow, even though it's a rare event. 2.58 was especially beautiful. Do you have any photos I could use as a wallpaper on my desktop? Thanks! OH by the way.. What does the "Next 13 mile sign" signify? my first guess would be that there is a gas station besides that sign but I Never see any in any videos so whatsup?

+james cleveland I felt like I saw an abundance of flowers, but compared to your video, I do see how their numbers are dwindling. I would estimate from your video to my experience, that the amount of overall flowers has been reduced by about 50%. However, there were definitely still some beautiful spots filled with blooms. If I had the option to go back I would take it, just with slightly lowered expectations.

+Ramon Montez First call the ranger station and see if it's still there. Go through Parump and take a left at Rt. 374. Take that right to Shoeshone, go through Shoeshone for a mile then go left at Rt. 178.... Rt. 178 will have a lot of road signs saying 'Road closed'. A 4 x4 will make it through, my Tacoma did. That's were I took all these pics, at the bottom of 178. Also take West Side Road (3 miles north from the bottom of Rt. 178) to Warm Springs Canyon to Butte Valley. This route is 4x4 heaven. Pack a lunch.

You are artificially saturating the picture quality to a ridiculous level. Do you just swipe that saturation slider all the way to 100% without giving it a second thought? It's obvious in your other videos too, especially since you have videos that aren't saturated at all. A guy called you out on this a week ago and you got really defensive and immature about it. Lose your temper all you want, but over-saturated photos and video aren't taken seriously by experienced photographers. You are saturating to compensate for up to three things: how drab you view your subject, how desperate you are to pander to an audience, and/or how amateurish your general photography skills are (focus and framing issues abound--from the still shots being out of focus to your side view mirror and front hood being distractions in the video). I was in Death Valley last weekend myself, and I think the landscape is beyond gorgeous in it's unedited state. I don't know why you'd saturate any of those colors unless you felt it wasn't appealing enough. Sad. If you want a pat on the back for the exposure your video is getting then fine, but excessive saturation panders to the lowest common denominator. Originally I was just going to roll my eyes and press the back button, but I saw the way you flew into a rage at the guy who called you out on this faux pas. Either own up to doing it or stop doing it completely, but calling people ignorant because they "weren't there" to know if these colors are indeed saturated is stupidly insulting and pathetic.

I trust you keep your better half black and blue when they get out of line?.. A. If you were so smart you would know that the option I used on my Canon G16 camera is called 'Super Vivid', no 'slide bar' was used.... B. It was put on the camera to use at the users option, sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't. Mostly I do not use it.....C. One would be willing to bet that you drove all the way to Death Valley just so you could post this silly little comment about my video.... D. The fact that you reviewed my other videos to prove your point allows myself to think "Jenkins, your the immature little brat"...Those long hours you spend alone with yourself must be torture.

+Chris Jenkins I just seen your KZread site, your videos are stunning. I can see I have a lot to learn. And so many good ones too! Millions of viewers are tuning in also. It must be wonderful to be that talented, and humble.

+Chris Jenkins You are missing the point. This isn't a cinematic site -- it's a beautiful example of nature. Everyone else on this page seems to like it. Take your technical comments somewhere else where they are appropriate and appreciated.

You are OBVIOUSLY jealous because the author of this video got nothing but, GREAT COMMENTS and APPRECIATION for posting such beauty that we don't usually see in our everyday life.
