Year 1941. Georgiy Volkov, Captain of the State Security Service, is delivering to the Soviet Union a consignment of emeralds under a trade agreement between the USSR and Germany. Included in the shipment are a number of top secret documents, the value of which is far higher than any precious stones. The war begins. The train on which Volkov is travelling is attacked by a detachment of Nazis, and he has to flee. He must reach the Soviet side and deliver the important cargo intact as soon as possible. However, a dangerous enemy is hot on his heels - Abwehr agent Konrad von Bützow. The two men will be due to meet on more than one occasion, and soon. The confrontation of these two strong, highly intelligent and worthy opponents is the basis for the plot of the trilogy, “Spies Must Die“.

I agree, the cast are fantastic, the storylines real and the production authentic. More please!
Great series. ive never been glued to a series like 24..
Love it ! Great episodes. The Russian war movies especially the Spy and the SMERSH are the best in the world .
Russians knows how to create good series with very good actors and actresses ! Moscowood !
The acting, writing, casting, and production are outstanding. Second to none. I can only hope Star Media creates more of these period ww2 shows. Better than almost all productions that Hollywood has created.

Good movie, good plot, well acted and the period setting is very well done. The lead actor looks like a well worn Daniel Craig. :-D Worth the watch.
Очень замечательный и полезный фильм.Такие люди как Волков молодцы.

@@jimkalb I am very touched when Western people judge communism without knowing anything about it. The actual results of Stalin's rule are as follows: from 1921 to 1953 4 060 306 people were convicted for all types of crimes: 799 455 people were shot, 2 631 397 people were imprisoned, 413 512 people were exiled, etc. 215 942 people Respectively 2,15%: 0,42%, 1,39%, 0,22%, 0,11% population of the USSR in 1953. Total killed in the camps 606 748, i.e., of 0.85% of the population. During the war 367 thousand Germans, 228 thousand were deported from the Western regions. Tatars and others. citizens of Crimea, 24 thousand Azerbaijanis, 20 thousand Armenians, 45 thousand Turks, 164 thousand Latvians and Estonians, only 848 thousand people. From the famine of 1932-1933, the population decreased by 2.5 million people. Having survived the devastating losses of the great Patriotic war, for 26 years from 1928 to 1954, the national income of the Soviet Union increased by 12.9 times. The population increased from 137 million to 200 million between 1920 and 1956. The number of students from 1914 to 1954 in schools increased 3.2 times, in technical schools, etc. 34 times, in higher education-13.6 times. The number of researchers increased 21-fold from 1913 to 1954. The number of doctors from 1913 to 1954 increased by 12.6 times. Housing stock in cities and towns increased 2.8-fold from 1926 to 1954. The real income of the workers from 1918 to 1954, the workers grew 6 times, the peasants 6.5 times. These figures were derived by American scientists together with the Russian historian V. N. Zemskov in 1995.

@@user-qj5dj5hk1y Estimates of deaths vary, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excess_mortality_in_the_Soviet_Union_under_Joseph_Stalin All estimates including your figures are very high compared with other countries. The NKVD went after most of the top military officers and other high officials, and those who headed it were themselves eventually executed. That's definitely not normal, and it means that plot lines involving treasonous generals trying to betray Leningrad and high NKVD officials and factory managers plotting to betray industrial secrets to the Germans are troubling. They look like an attempt to paper over historical crimes. Also, a lot of the plots in this series involve the heroic NKVD guys racing to bring off amazing feats of detection in order to avoid getting executed for failure. That doesn't seem normal either. As to economic matters, there also seems a lot of doubt as to the correct figures: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_the_Soviet_Union It's pretty common though for industrializing countries and countries recovering from devastating wars to grow rapidly especially if they have lots of natural resources. You're easily touched. But it's not just concern for the Soviet people or general admiration for Russia that makes Westerners interested. The Soviet Union stood for a basic modern political possibility and had a great many influential admirers abroad. So what happened there has universal significance.

@@jimkalb As for the unjustly convicted , when Khrushchev came to power after the death of Stalin , Khrushchev instructed to create a Commission to determine the unjustly convicted, after checking they found 4% of the unjustly convicted. Not all commanders were convicted, so for example 35,000 officers of the red army who fought in world war II were previously officers of the tsarist army of which 17 person were commanders of fronts including Zhukov and Rokossovsky, General Govorov in General first served in the civil war with Kolchak then moved to the red army , The chief of staff of the red army was a former tsarist officer Shaposhnikov. The NKVD was not only responsible for fighting internal enemies , but also for fighting enemy spies. "We are 50-100 years behind the advanced countries. We should run this distance in ten years. Either we do this, or we will be destroyed. This is what dictates our obligations to the workers and peasants of the U.S.S.R. " these words were uttered by I. V. Stalin on February 4, 1931, at the first all-Union conference of workers in socialist industry. . During the first five-year plan, the economy grew by 30% (an indicator that China can only dream of) By 1937, the USSR was ranked second in the world in terms of absolute industrial production, second only to the United States, from 1928-1937, iron smelting increased by 439%, steel smelting increased by 412%, electricity production increased by 724%, production of metal-cutting machines increased by 2425%, car production increased by 25,000%, non-ferrous metallurgy in General was created from scratch , the USSR took 1st place in the manufacture of tractors, during this time, about 6000 large enterprises were built. As for the Gulag, its contribution to the national economy of the USSR was 4%.

In war, human life has less value than a usable matchstick. It’s a pretty tolerable TV series to watch, but the Russians can do even better than such "boeviki". Their serious medieval and imperial historical films and TV series are phenomenal. However, I would also recommend watching "Three Days in the Life of Lt. Kravtsov" («Три дня лейтенанта Кравцова»).

Soviet armored steel was better than German due to easy access to rare earth metals. Outside of that the rest of this Russian TV show is a complete fantasy! Except maybe the innocent being convicted. I read somewhere when a NKVD/KGB officer was asked if it was true that night time raids arresting and sending innocent persons to the gulags was true. His reply was "Of course - without that there would have been no terror!"

The KGB, NKVD, and FSB are organizations of internal state security and their methods of work do not differ from those of the FBI and other States. As America did with the Japanese during the Pacific war, it simply drove them to reservations. There were repressions of 37-38 years, but not on the scale that your media rubs you. Here and Putin have demoniziruet which would then lie about it blagodatnyy lay on the ground. In history, our rulers compared to your Churchills ( who took the grain from Bengal as a result of 3000000 died of starvation) or St. Bartholomew's night, just God's dandelions. Don't worry... We western citizens didn't need help of such a guy as Putin to know what western secret sces or even official armies did in our past. But... We also knew what was happening in so called "eastern countries". By "we" I mean people who were in search of a true path to some kind of "honesty"... Loyalty and justice. Those who got enough intellectual tools to make such researches. What I believe is that today... As it continue this "special war" between multi great poles over the plant we should be enough wise to consider those fights as equal useless one. Too many people especially innocent one were sacrified on the throne of vanity of worthy and powerful guys obsessed by their madness sat on power and personal profits. Whether they are commies or conservatives as Churchill or even nazis.
