I can't decide which album is the best from Death...for me all are classic masterpieces with their own mark in history of music....for me the only wrong think in symbolic is that don't participate Steve Digiorgio...i would love to hear this album with the playability that steve has....with his fretless 5string...

Steve Asheim for my money. No one bar no one was doing what he did. His work on 'Legion' was waaay ahead of it's time. Symbolic sounds dated by comparison and it dropped 3 years after Legion.

Hmm? While I don't disagree about it being technical I would have to say The Sound of Perseverance album would be Death's most technical album, more so than the Symbolic Album. But Symbolic is no doubt one of Chucks most technical until TSOP album was born

They were wrong about the 90s. I had a metal radio show in college in the 90s and we had many people in fact doing metal radio shows there and we had tons of fans loving it and requesting metal all the time. and people I knew else where were big into metal. Hell the 90s not only had Thrash and Death metal going strong but the 2nd wave of Black Metal emerged in the 90s!

In San Antonio there was too much metal coming through lol Deicide one night Cannibal Corpse the next. What i really miss is seeing the local bands that were way unknown at the DMZ lol a strange dive in a Mexican hood

Yeah in the mainstream it wasn’t as big minus a few bands and the whole bullshit Nu Metal scene that blew up in the late 90s but in the 90s, Metal was at its absolute best in the underground.

I not get tire of it.I have four of it.is one of my favorites albums ever.samething with Megadeth killing is my business, Slayer south of heaven, season the abyss and many more in my list.
chuck schuldiner one of the most under rated guitar players in history his melodies and riffing and the basic feel he had for the guitar has not been matched in the metal world sense he passed truely one of my biggest influences and one the main reason i wanted to pick the guitar up many moons ago when i first heard him playing live around the tampa area, truely one hell of a nice guy also spoke to him many times at shows they did around the bay area. Just a shame not many people know of his abilities and talent he had on the guitar real shame
just so so so so f in good still to this day.

Hard agree. IMO he's up there with Dimebag Darrell. Only difference between the two is that Schuldiner (and Death) is pretty overlooked and underrated outside of his genre. Crazy how many greatest guitarists lists that straight up excludes Chuck. Same with greatest metal bands lists too. They'll include the big 4 of thrash but exclude Death.

Heated discussions down below as to the best metal album. It's obvious that everyone has their own ego embedded into what kind of music is best, album or band. Be it thrash metal death, brutal death, black, progressive, post-metal, folk black metal, on and on.... Lately I've been listening to bands like Deathspell Omega and Ulcerate, and I love what I hear. Every philosophical and world view requires different musical expression, added the talent of the musicians , hence levels, styles and variations. When it comes to presence of melody in any form of death metal you feel like the music is less misanthropic. Listen to Shrines of Paralysis and an apocalyptic feel obviates your psyche, only bits of melody, torn pieces after the end of hope. Can't convey the same feelings with Effigy of the Forgotten, great album on its own.
Symbolic is the 6th & penultimate studio album by American death metal band Death, released on this day 3/21/95, by Roadrunner Records. The album was remastered & reissued on 4/1/08, with 5 bonus tracks. It is the only album to feature Bobby Koelble & Kelly Conlon on guitar & bass, respectively, & the 2nd & last album to feature drummer Gene Hoglan. The album has received unanimous critical acclaim.

human is their best album but this one comes very close to it. human has better songs but this one has a better production.
Chuck in his highest form on this album. The song writing on this album is just incredible. I think thats what stands out for me when compared to the others.

Absolutely the best- he had it all. The musicality, street cred, couldn't write a bad riff, and a knockout soloist and singer...lyrics, damn, the best and then some... his best gift was his imagination- he created his own thing completely
I still remember, what I felt on 13th December 2001. Everything else was only empty words.
Definitely one of my favorite " DEATH " albums. Play it 2-3 times in a row, still get a Rush!

Chuck Schuldiner is Death, I am Death, but I took the name Jonathan David Taylor, after David Jonathan Taylor, shot my sled out of the sky with a missle from a jet, so i stole his planes, jets and heliocopters and stashed them around the world. Do you know any pilots that might want free planes, jets or heliocopters, so I can start collecting them from around the world? I took the name, so when I free Victoria from the glass prison she is in, she will know who to take her revenge on for blowing my sled out of the sky with a missle.

Human was the first album I listened to and then I was sold to the death metal... Grave/boltthower/morbid angel/and of course slayer/six feet under/I am 42 years old and I still listen to the music because is what it is music not something machine has made.. And for now I will send my thoughts to. Power trip..rip the hard core scene will never be the same anymore...

You are welcome man...i think the basic Reason to be happy in our everyday corona life is to listen music that fullfil our emotions. Death n symbolic is one of this feelings that when you listen to it you realize how good is life and thinking about a better tomorrow. I agree about Steve...i would love to listen this album with steve touch ...

I love the sound of the bass guitar on Symbolic! Crunchy, punchy and very much adding to it all -- as if you'd been hooked up to an industrial conveyor belt and fed tone after tone from the band, recored and mastered brilliantly btw (I think Symbolic is also high up there in the list of top metal productions, an achievement in its own!) If I had the chance to re-assign Steve to a recording, I'd choose Blessed are the Sick, for its jazzy vibes ... saying this as a long time (25yrs) Death fan and lover of this Album especially; I also play the bass and a metal guitar myself in bands since that time.
Chuck is a prophet. [ RIP]
