Death of Princess Margaret - Prince Charles Pays Tribute (2002)

On 9 February 2002, Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon died aged 71 at the King Edward VII's Hospital in Marylebone, London. Her body was moved from the hospital to Kensington Palace, where mourners began to congregate soon after the news of her death was announced. Later in the day, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales paid tribute to his aunt in a televised address. He shared his favourite memory of Princess Margaret, and thanked on behalf of his family all those who had sent messages of condolence.

Exactly 22 years🕒 ago she died at the age of 71. For the Late Elizabeth II, 2002 was a difficult ⚫year because she lost her sister and mother👭 that year. Who would have known 💭that in 2002, exactly 20 years ⌛later, Elizabeth II herself would die. Let's remember all three😢🌹💐

Yup, 1952, 1982 (well, they did won the Falkland Islands war but it was a stressful time), 1992, 2002, 2022. Though not all of their bad years ended with a two: Princess Diana died in 1997 & Prince Philip died in 2021.

there are letters in the national archives that prove she could have married Peter Townsend, Antony Eden became Prime Minister in 1955 and he was divorced himself one of the letters was from him saying she had permission and could carry on as a working royal theres a letter from Margaret though saying she wanted to wait she saw him before giving her answer as she hadn't seen him for a long time and would know how she felt when she saw him again Those are not the words of a woman in love and years later Lady Anne Glenconnor asked her who she would have married if she hadn't married Tony and she said Sonny Blandford who became the previous Duke of Marlborough

It needs to be mentioned that Princess Margaret died just a few days after the 50th anniversary of the death of George VI- and it seems that her last words were 'Dear Papa!' [the ONLY person in her life (outside of her children) who never failed her ]. I sincerely believe that her life would have been much different and she'd have been much happier had he been fated to live to her middle age!

Princess Margaret lived s tragic hierarchy lifestyle that she was not 🚭🚫 willing to depart and what I don't understand is why she had to give up her title if she married her beloved military officer, Townsend?!! She would have been happy if she married him instead of Anthony Jones who ruined her Life with deception, distraction, and disappointment!!! What was Princess Margaret's contributions and achievements for her service as a royal?!! Because what I read is that she was eccentric and a rebel so I think 🤔 that she had issues like everyone else, had to overcome disappointments and grief like anyone else and devoted to her sister Elizabeth that she sacrificed her own happiness and to me that is besides her children and grandchildren her legacy!!!!

@gailjone1807 there are letters in our National Archives that prove she was given permission by Antony Eden who became Prime Minister in 1955 and Margaret's letter shows that she had doubts and did not know how she felt until she saw him again so she wouldn't have lost her title and would have remained a working royal so no he was not her beloved, they have been shown on a few documentaries and was shown on one called INSIDE THE CROWN, which is on you tube and it is on the episode called love and duty about 32/33 mins into the episode the talk about Margaret and Peter l think she was infatuated, she was lonely and divorce was a huge scandal for everyone and not allowed in the royal family and years later Lady Anne Glenconner asked her who she would have married if she hadn't married and she she said Sonny Blandford who became the previous Duke of Marlborough and Margaret was incredibly loyal to our late Queen and the crown and her service is the same as Anne's and Edward's and the other working royals they support the Monarch in their state and national duties and no she wasn't eccentric
